    Been a fan since 1984. I still like the 1986 movie a bit more. I actually like the animation of beast wars and that storyline. Don’t really care for any of the live action. This movie was good. I’m with you on the character arc of Pax and 16. The movie needed 20 more minutes. Now that mentioned it, I agree I wish the main antagonist was the Quintesons and Sentinel Prime was more in the shadows….kind of like Darth Sidious/Palpatine

      @@Tru7blue I vaguely remember beast wars as a kid but the animation always stuck out to me the most about it. And yes Prime definitely should have been hidden more in terms of his allegiance. It would have made that betrayal all the more personal for d-16 and would have made his transformation into megatron have more of an impact. Making him a Palpatine type of character would have been fantastic

I was curious about this movie and want to see it I still feel like I’m missing something from this review, but I agree if the characters were written That way it could be frustrating but that’s only one aspect of the film I feel like more would have been touched on.

      @@GeekBlvd just my personal opinion. I hope people go to see it for themselves. I think the suspense and the flashbacks and not knowing when the violence was coming in the old one made it dark . Like you said the actor was awesome I just don't think it was dark and moody enough. It's not just a love story it's a revenge for killing my love story. But I love story driven movies and learning as I go . Don't know if I am saying it right . Like the love for her is what brought on the revenge and that's the story . Their relationship wasn't the story it's that they killed his love and he wants revenge so bad he came back for revenge.

    I think it was good! I had watched OLD and The 6th sense, which I loved. I guess an unpopular opinion I have is that his daughter was amazing in the movie. She is believable as Lady Raven. At some point, we don't think of her as an actress playing a super famous popstar, but as a real popstar. I understand she is a singer, and all, but she played someone like Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, etc. So, for that I applaud her. I liked her scenes in the house with the family. She did a good job, in my opinion.

    I love that not only is the theme of the movie matured from the first, but the actual movie itself. With the first film, a 7 year old would like it, but not understand or relate to it. A 10 year old would enjoy and relate to it. But you had to be a bit older to truly understand it. I feel like with this film, a 7 or 10 year old would not relate or understand it, but would enjoy it. But a 13+ year old would relate and enjoy it. But again, a little bit older to truly understand it. Its much more mature than the first. While the first is a child trying to adapt and trying to keep a promise which results in them shutting down emotionally. This film is about dealing with pressures and fears. And most of all, dealing with anxiety. How to survive and withstand anxiety, how you cannot let it consume you, or control you. That's something I don't think you deal with until your at least 13, I also don't think its something you'll completely understand when you are 13, I think it's something you understand more everytime you experience it, and I think the movie does a good job at showing anxiety is still there within Riley, she's just starting to get better at dealing with it. Its a fantastic film.

    • @GeekBlvd
      @GeekBlvd 3 місяці тому

      Well said! Pixar’s depiction of anxiety and how it affects someone of that age was very refreshing to see and really helps to convey and understand that regardless of how we feel about anxiety, it is a part of us but it by no means controls us. And we journey inward to find that joy and happiness to help us to feel better.

    • @bill4665
      @bill4665 3 місяці тому

      @@GeekBlvd The sight of Joy and an anxiety (who was like irl, flying around the room so quickly that it looked like she never moved), in the eye of an anxiety storm, with Joy telling Anxiety "you don't get to control who she is", and the sight of her slowly crying and turning to Joy before letting Riley free, was beautifully done. And I'm so happy they literally said "Anxiety doesnt get to control you" bcs that is such an important message to convey to teenagers. As someone who has suffered with sever anxiety for years, this film (just like the first) hit so close to home. Couldnt be more greatful to Lixar for producing 2 fantastic films. Edit: And honestly, now that they've proven they can make a sequel that both lives up to the original, and doesnt undo any development, I'm happy for them to produce a third and cap off the trilogy (provided they do it with the same care and attention as the first two).

    You said you hadn't watched the original Mad Max trilogy? You really need to. In fact, Mel Gibson's voice was dubbed in the original run of Mad Max. I guess the producers didn't think his voice was macho enough. Or maybe American audiences would have trouble understanding his Aussie accent. The original Mad Max trilogy, Rocky, Terminator, and Desperado films have a few things in common. The production values and budgets were very small for the first introductions to the franchises. But the acting and the concepts were still very good. The second film in the series saw a huge improvement in production values. The second films look so much more polished. But the characters and concepts remain consistent with the originals. The third entry in the series saw a bit of a fall off in terms of momentum. But they were still very watchable.

    Every year there’s a vastly overrated film. ‘Poor Things’ is 2023’s. From the same self-indulgent pretentious director of ‘The Lobster’ (oh, no!) comes a mashup of Frankenstein, Charly, and The Story Of O as if directed by David Cronenberg. The premise starts out interesting enough but quickly devolves into ‘because we said so’ script conveniences. This is absolutely NOT how Arrested Development / Delayed Intelligence works. Emma Stone’s character would be more plausible if she were an alien or AI becoming aware. One minute she’s stumbling around like a clumsy Thunderbirds marionette, and the next she’s Simone Biles in the bedroom. She acheives astounding knowledge and insight with ZERO parenting or formal education. Yeeeaaah. The story then meanders between different threads and tones until you don’t know what to make of anything. Willem Dafoe and Mark Ruffalo are good enough, given what they have to work with. Emma Stone obviously took the role because it would be challenging and different. The art direction is interesting and quite beautiful; perhaps the best thing in the film. But it all amounts to little more than pretense and auteur excess. IMHO C-

    The over story and movie once you let it sink in for me was a 5 star movie, knowing the director he intertwined many things into the movie I feel most who wouldn’t know him would miss. I agree the two characters mentioned may have been a bit one note in lack of a better words but in the world that was created by the grandfather where everything was a bit odd different and possibly challenging and dying he had these two characters. I seen it as their feelings and obstacles and not fully fleshed out characters. The bird king being an obstacle for young Miyazaki (mahito) and the past and truth (his young mother) the movie when he gets back to his world to me signifies that you have to go through grief and you can escape to another world like the grandfather did and try to keep it perfect but in the end you will always have to deal with the problems ahead on your own which is why you had to go back to his own world which is why everything that returned returned to normal back into the world that they belong to deal with their problems so I feel like the characters didn’t need a lot of depth because they weren’t fully fledge characters to begin with I think they were just there to show a feeling but the movie wasn’t holding our hand and there was a lot of different themes in the movie that I feel like the first time I saw it I got but didn’t quite get but I let it sink in I realized this is a movie definitely about all of Miyuzakis work and what he’s went through with loss of his own and also the thought of the future Ghibli. It was an emotional movie, if I picked it apart the things mentioned in the video would be what bothered me also but I realized that that was the intention of the movie to feel a bit off. And if his point was to create a feeling of something is missing I would say he was successful. Thanks for your review it’s nice to see what others think aswell

      And putting these thoughts go back to why the step mom was there and the grandfather but it’s definitely one way of looking at it. Mahito is definitely a much more different character then any of his other Ghibli characters which makes me believe he was a representation of young Miyazaki and the grandfater is older Miyazaki and the world created is Ghibli , the mother dying is many things himself from age, his friend, his work etc in in the end him still having a piece he took from the other work in his pocket. Its a movie I feel will age well.

      Definitely great points you make! This only being my second film I’ve seen of his there’s still more opportunities for me to soak in his work and get a full grasp of his style and his underlying messages and I’m very excited to do so. Appreciate your insightful analysis of the film!

    Solid movie all the way. As someone who does not watch the avengers, marvel, superhero blockbuster movies I hadn't realized how shallow they were as far as characters depth. It's like enjoying Wonder woman but not if batman, hulk, iron man , Thor and Captain America are going to be in it also. Now you can't have a stand alone movie of any of them. Throw in Guardians for good measure. Id like to see a legal drama of superhero discrimination for not allowing the X men a chance. Calling them mutants is to call them genetic defects and freaks of nature. At least the mutants are citizens of this planet unlike Superman, Thor. Just glad that Godzilla sparked so much attention plus anytime Disney looks bad is a great day to me.
