    10 years later and this line sadly doesn’t get much attention

    Pretty sure this thing is gone due to the east side access project but the siding at the end to the right is still there..

    I really like the abandoned look of those track-side industrial buildings in the first part of the clip. This place looks untouched for the last 100 years.

      Everything after 5:20 was removed the line The line itself from 1:19 Onward is abandoned but the right of way/ tracks still exists.

      @@K1_Trains After 5:20 the train starts to move again. A few feet later as the “Citywide” building comes into view, the overpass has been ripped up and the tracks come to an abrupt end. Fun fact: Mark Wahlberg movie “The Yards” was filmed at the depot at the end the video in year 2000.

    I really wished they used this for east side access or something i could see them using this to add a 2nd line into the city and adding a train service in parts of the boro that lacks it. Most of this is gone now so i dont see it ever happeing

    If you PAY ATTENTION you will see that there is NO 3rd Rail, NO Electric Train capability, only Diesel. It is used for freight only. Ergo this is from a Caboose.

    Why is it called the "Montauk Cut-Off" when the train in not in Montauk?

    • @danielribeiro2113
      @danielribeiro2113 6 років тому

      russ117044 because it is the Montauk Branch. They sometimes call it the lower Montauk. If you take it all the way east it will take you to Montauk.

    • @NaYawkr
      @NaYawkr 6 років тому

      In 1870 two Railroads were joined, the southside railroad and the Bushwick to ? and they were purchased by the LIRR and joined to form the line from Brooklyn to Montauk, so it has been called the Montauk Branch ever since. Probably some kind of Railroad speak from those days seemed make sense even today. This branch is still not electrified, and may never be since the passenger traffic potential does not justify the cost, and most of old stations no longerexist along its length. Only diesel trains can use it, so it is used for hauling freight only.

    • @1575murray
      @1575murray 6 років тому

      @@NaYawkr It has been leased to the NY and Atlantic freight railroad as the LIRR secondary because the LIRR would have had to install PTC on it were it to continue its use for passenger service and that would not have been cost effective.
