I've had the exact same "anniversary present for my wife" request 3 different times....And, of course, they couldn't identify where they had seen my work. The first time, my question to them (about where they had seen my work) wasn't because I was suspicious, but because I work in a variety of mediums & styles, and so I was trying to identify which one they were interested in. But soon saw red flags. When a second scammer contacted me with the exact same story (a year or two later), I wrote back telling them to get a respectable job and to stop trying to take advantage of artists, who don't make enough money as it is.

Just brilliant! I think your tips are wonderful! What a great video Cristina. Exactly what I wanted to hear. I am going to put your tips into practice and also have a closer look at your work. Your paintings have a deep feel to them. Quite moving actually. I always thought copying other artists was discouraged but actually it is such a helpful idea! Of course students copied the masters! I have a few mixed media artists whom I follow and they do ethereal figures in imaginative naturescapes, so I am going to study their work and do a lot of small drawings and paintings of things that interest me in nature and also practice figure drawing. My current chosen mediums are ink, coloured pencil and watercolours. Thank you very much!!! X

Sometimes an alternate activity like a part time job not related to art can actually help creativity. It relieves the stress of no, or low, sales and helps you focus.

Such an important message for all artists, but especially those who are starting out and impatient to see results instead of enjoying the gift that an art practice really is.

Your work is impressive. You are clearly accomplished. Good job. A thought - I think there was a quick mention that you started making larger pieces. I assume that means higher selling prices. That removes some of the buyers. Also, that means only collectors looking for a statement piece are in the running. Double whammy. Perhaps make sure you always offer some pieces with the general parameters that worked before. Also, maybe consider that sales have slowed/stopped while the politics take center stage. At some point things will, hopefully, settle down. Good luck!

As an artist, I think that the best way to go through your disappointments and struggles is to put them in your art; the feelings are ment to be an inspiration. Great works often pop up in difficult times. History tells us that. I wish you success..

It’s the classic case of having an ultimate goal, and breaking that goal into smaller goals. I was getting into doing more portraits and wanted to get better at human features. I hated that I couldn’t quite get facial features down. I never could get an eye/nose to look good. I had to slow down and breakdown the entire process of painting an eye. The different layers. Nothing is just surface deep. You can’t run without knowing how to walk. You can’t walk without knowing balance. You can’t balance without being able to stand up in first place. And so on.

I have started many projects over the years and never quite been happy with the results, they are okay but never what I call great. I have put my brush down for what to me is a long time without painting. About 10 days is common, in the meantime I watched videos like yours to get the mood back. As for burnout, last year I did my own Inktober and wow pushing myself through that improved my drawing but trying to find a different subject each day made it such hard work, a couple of times I nearly stopped but my wife drove me on and the block went and by the time the month was done and I could start painting again it was flowing even subjects I had previously done and struggled with. So my "cure" for burnout is do something different for a month and maybe use some of the drawings for inspiration. I'm still dreading Inktober again 😀.

such a smart, reflected, sharp point of view! to me you are also an exapmle of how a talented person who is working hard will make it further and last longer when they are reflecting even when it hurts. reaching goals always means getting to know yourself even better...if you do it right. :) which you do. how wonderful, thank you for this great video!

Dude, pack your camping and painting gear, go out to your favorite landscape and paint. focus on your craft and connecting with the inner passion that drove you to paint in the first place and be grateful you have been given the gift to express yourself. Recall that the first impressionist exhibit was a commercial failure and accept that you may never reach commercial success in your lifetime. If people are doing this to make money, while nice and pays the bills, that cant be the only thing driving you to make art. Also recognize that even in this age women must work harder to make it to and succeed in a gallery. Pay attention to what people respond to in your work and try other pieces that are similar.

Yes. Enjoy your time NOW as a commenter mentioned.. Reminds me of anxiety and way over thinking a situation. If it's that pesky voice in your head, interrupt it with, "I'm sorry, I can't talk to you right now. I'm busy painting." And say it outloud. Sounds strange, but it kinda works.😊

Hi Christina. I feel as though my comment may sound way too simplistic. One way i find to get out of my head, and in the moment, while still keeping all.of the ambitions etc in mind, is to write. Write in my sketchbook what my goals are, make lists of what I'd like to make, what exhibition I'd like to enter, what new pieces I'd like to challenge myself with, using different materials, anything really, make it a simple list or a long story, as long as it helps to ease pressure on yourself and helps you enjoy your time. Now. I hope that didnt come across as a rant! Take care. Enjoy your time in Canada x Nell.

I've seen this happen OVER and OVER AGAIN... a 'new thing' gets started, everyone flocks over to it, the rich guys notice, they send their hawks to the developers of the 'new thing' and the developers get bought out or threatened and the 'new thing' turns into the same thing everyone left... look into the history of ever app we have and those that have been forced and buried to die a slow death under the sludge of oblivion ... look at what is happening with Canva/Affinity Photo and Adobe Photoshop... IT HAPPENS EVERY! SINGLE! TIME! Another example is Etsy... started out as a Mom & Pop place for Mom & Pop artists to sell their arts and crafts..look at it now... enough said about that one! If these small companies don't sell out, they get threatened and targeted until they have NO CHOICE. And we are burdened with having to 'relocate', 'relearn', and 'reinvent' ourselves and businesses, CONSTANTLY!!! Having said all that... looks like I'm due for ANOTHER 'We've Moved....' post on Instagram and heading on over to CARA to start over again, at least until they start getting picked on by the Big Bucks Big Guys... AGAIN. Just Sayin'🙄😑🤨🥵😡😤
