wonder wonderful video. I'm wondering if this fuel selector is the same as the one on my 96 f150 duel tank I'm having the same problem. This has been a HELLISH problem for these OBS Fords for years. Thank you so much.

Just one other thing, you had a filter in yours, I just watched another video after your and the guy had an 88 and there was no filter in there. But since we both have an 87, when you removed the lower half there was a filter in yours and what was the shape of it. Did it look clogged. I'm just wondering if that's my issue

Wow what a nice thing to do for all of us ford owners, hats off to you and your wife. I'm having an issue with my 87 f150 xlt lariat, and I'm wondering if it's the filter inside that canister, that's clogged, that's not letting gas, get to the motor. Could that be possible? I did a long trip with my truck. I put on 245 Miles on the front tank and then switched over to the rear tank and put 44 Miles on that tank. Then the truck decided to die on me. I got it to start i went about a 1/2 a block and stalled again, that happened 3 times I sprayed starting fluid into the intake and the truck started. Then died, I replaced the fuel regulator but nothing. I can hear. Each fuel pump in each tank when selected prime. But the truck just cranks, I took off fuel filter canister and blew through it, that was clear. I'm thinking either the high pressure fuel pump Or the filter in that canister ? What do you think, Do you think it could be that filter or the high pressure fuel pump. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Its their better fuel, leaves a white powdery residue, on older engines it cakes up! Anywhere fuel flow and mechanical motion required, is screwed.drain fuel systems before parking ANY amt. TIME!

Thanks for the video but you missed a very key part of the design of this valve and the reason why they leak. There is a small port and o-ring at the top half's mating surface. This o-ring collapses over time and yours was probably flattened. The port also can get plugged with the old o-ring as mine did. There is no need to put any gasket maker on the mating surface as you did. That will probably make it harder to disassemble or damage the diaphragm the next time you try and disassemble it. The diaphragm itself is designed to seal this joint. The o-ring is a common size and I picked one up at my local O'Reilly's for a less than a buck. The rest of your video was great. Mine was also stuck and I also worked it loose with WD-40. Thanks again.

Getting a 97 in a couple weeks from a friend and previous owner before my friend didn't know what they were doing and put 3 new pumps in the rear tank and then gave up. This will be very helpful in fixing it so I get more mileage on one fill!

My 85 2 wheel drive had two tanks. But unlike every other video I have seen, my selector valve only has two lines running in and to lines running out. Many I see have four on one side and two on the other. I am having problems getting fuel to the engine, so a lot of my research is pointing me here. I am going to replace the high pressure pump as well

I've never seen that style fuel selector on an old ford pickup, my brothers 76 F-250 300 six 4x4 had a simple brass valve with a tap on the left side of the floor next to the seat. maybe someone installed that cause I checked Rockauto right back to 73 and they all have a selector similar to yours.

Man, I can not begin to thank you enough for this wonderful video. I have been looking for this information for a while now and finally finding you has made my day, month, year. I just got a’90 from down south and it is in incredible shape, no salt and rust. I’m here in upstate NY, where rust is king. Within the first few days I had it on my driveway I’ve had two guys wanting to buy it. I have to clean up the interior, it was a farm truck, but not the main job truck. But he said that the dual tanks didn’t work, said he didn’t want to buy the selector switch. Watching your video makes me understand why he didn’t want to. I’m like you, I have always tried to fix everything myself, and being here in NY, there’s nothing but crooks and liars, to just plain lazy and stupid SOB’s So I really don’t want to go to any of them. I hear it from friends, how they get taken, and I have been too and it’s aggravated me to no end. Guys like yourself are becoming few and far between. It’s a lost art, being a shadetree mechanic, I think older cars are better than the newer ones, all the electronic bs drives me nuts. Being able to think on your feet and see what has to be done and then figuring out how, is a rare skill anymore, and you have it. Take care and keep up the great work.

That Dual Fuel Tank Selector has a filter in the bottom of it, the bottom unscrews. I just took the filter all the way out, since I do have fuel filter on the line. But had trouble finding a new O-ring for it. I ended up finding one in a O-ring kit at advanced auto. They do make an replacement for it but it's much smaller since it doesn't have a filter built in to it.

THANK YOU MY FRIEND, just had the issue today ( 9/7/23 ) fuel running out the " not selected " FULL tank on to the ground while running. a friend suggested fuel selector valve, returning to the wrong tank; or bad ground wire at the switch (95) f150. I'm glad you took the time to share your research and problem solving skills.

Would you know if it goes to a Generator too? I have 1989 Van RV is it the same piece? I just bought it. But the tubes to the 2nd tank is just free floating. If I hit the switch the gas will just pour out into street.
