My father had a snobby neighbour with a Jaguar. After spending thousands on various parts of the fuel system he relented and asked my father if he could figure something out as he was ready to dump the car. My dad happened to have an issue with his generator fuel cap not allowing for venting and stalling aftet a while. Well the Jag had a fuel tank vent tube near where a spider made its nest. As the motor was running the nest wad being sucked in and eventually the fuel pump would shut off. After a while the pressure returned to normal and the car would run again... That was an expensive spider.

I've personally seen quite a few W124's and W201's with over a million km on the odometer. Most of them look quite rough but still run without issues. They are extremely overengineered and overbuilt.

While that should be the case so many "luxury" car makers use cheap plastic parts in the engine or other cost cutting around the car. Not a very premium experience or product to me. I thunk you should pay a premium if the car had good parts but the fact is many dont.
