I am considering towing a Honda E electric car and wondered if while towing the battery could be charged? On the TV program Long Way Up they ride electric motorbikes and two Rivians as support, the Rivians were recharged on at leaast one ocassion by being towed. If it can be made to work what a fantastic solution.

Not EU compliant . problems, bearing wear, tyre wear, never tow a car in neutral ruins gear box. and if you get tail ended the car is wrecked. Better on a braked trailer less hassel. car safer. AVOID also wears brakes on Smart car. NOT RECOMMENDED BY MANY and NOT BY ME I use a trailer a Brian James one

At 0:52 it shows very clearly the motorhome driving around a roundabout with no problem BUT the towed car actually runs over the roundabout...imagine if that roundabout was a brick wall!

Hardly compliant, given that a A frame and towed car are classed as a trailer and therefore limited to lawfully provide no more than 50% of the braking effect, the A frame also has to have a method to maintain a positive element of steering if becoming detached in motion, and the draw bar element must be manufactured in such away that, it cannot impact with the road if becoming detached in motion. The modification to the front impact bar certainly effects the crash characteristics as the crumple area will now transfer far greater energy further back to the suspension turrets and beyond and will no doubt require re calibration of the airbag deployment values.

We have a 2005 Smart Car diesel we want to tow and according to Mercedes Canada it can be as long as you stop every 50 km and drive it because you can damage the automatic transmission. Is there any truth to this if so how do you tow and not damage transmission

Why would you install the braking system? I have used a tow dolly to tow larger vehicles that do not have brake assist built into the dolly and it works fine? Is it the law in UK?
