    Any updates?

      So I had to put the ‘48 on hold for a bit to finish up another project (a ‘41 Farmall tractor). I just figured people might not be interested in tractor restoration.

    You set it on BB for top dead center ? I thought U|C was top dead center and the BB was 5* advanced.

      You are right that the BB isn’t true TDC, it is where it should be firing but it is still the mark to use.

      Yep, with water in the motor it’s not blowing white smoke so I am hoping that’s it.

    check if the piston ring gaps are ontop of eachother, they should be on opposite sides of the piston.

      I haven’t had it apart yet, just giving it a chance to run. If I have to pull the pistons I will replace the rings though!

    Do you have a broke valve spring by chance ?

    • @ShedTreeMechanic
      @ShedTreeMechanic Рік тому

      The springs seem fine but I can’t speak to the condition of the valves themselves. The last thing I can try is to get it spinning faster. A leak down test would help identify where compression is being lost but would still lead to a tear down.

      @@ShedTreeMechanic had an old 172 fordson engine with a broke spring and set in such away I missed it for a few minutes of looking lol. But yes worn valves/seats could be the issue as well. If it's leakage at the valves at least you only have to remove the head and send it to the machine shop . Not have to worry about pistons/rings and bearings

    Is the gauge is screwed on all the way. And if it is probably some really bad piston rings.

    • @ShedTreeMechanic
      @ShedTreeMechanic Рік тому

      Yeah the gauge is screwed down. I think sitting as long as it has the rings aren’t sealing at all as there isn’t any sound of air leaking past the valves either.

      Spray some wd40 in the cylinders and see if it builds more. That will tell you if the rings are bad
