Local man That's a question I've asked before and the answer is I am a CAA approved UAV Pilot and have been trained to fly within the 50m rule adopting stringent guidelines for a safe flight. The course was quite intense Inc a practical exam in wales where I had to demonstrated my flying ability.

This covers all other types of flight and addresses operations that contain a greater element of operating risk. In addition to the requirements for a Standard Permission, applicants are also required to prepare and submit an Operating Safety Case (OSC) to the CAA. Full details of the pilot competence requirements and the OSC can be found in our guidance document CAP 722. Please note that Permissions and Exemptions only authorise the commercial use of a drone from a safety perspective. Operators are still subject to rules and regulations imposed by other bodies and organisations. These may include the emergency services, the Highways agency and local authorities. Before beginning a job in a particular location a permission holder should always check with all relevant bodies to establish what, if any, restrictions apply. Operators should also be sure they understand the rules around trespass and nuisance.

you still need permission just because you are caa approved doesn,t mean you can just fly anyway

...and don't forget CAP 719, CAP 393 and CAP 737 and then there's the Pre Flight Survey Visit and forms to fill, Environmental Influences like Wild Life Reserves, Schools, Colleges, Factories, Pre Deployment Assessment Forms, Air Traffic Control to check via Skydemon Light for other airfields, Gliding Clubs and Helicopter Pads, weather forecast to check, Airworthiness of your RPAS, Battery status and Battery Log, Personnel health of the pilot and your ground crew, FOD to observe, Fully Insured to meet the level of operational environment, Always fly in a safe operational envelope away from Livestock People and Buildings/Vessels. ....and I could go on, but in Laymens terms, if you have a drone or thinking of getting one for fun or commercial work, please please, do your homework, as there are some people out there that didn't do their homework and ended up with a heavy fine and their equipment confiscated...ouch! Yes I did as the Gopro only picks up the propeller noise, which sounds like a mad bumble bee, so I downloaded some firework sound effects and added them in for effect, but well spotted !!
