Why won't you hire someone who honestly enjoys their work, where they are at, and don't see that changing? That's ridiculous. The Italian master bricklayers are not even considered masters at their craft unless they have several decades of experience under their belt. And they spend their careers right there with the newbies laying bricks rain or shine. The only change they see is a pay rise as their skills grow. Stop treating skilled employees as disposable. You will get more value out of their labor down the road when their skills grow, and by the fact you are not always starting over with someone less skilled that you have to train. Treat people right and pay them what they are worth.

I dont see this in the work culture everyone expects everything you have but dangle the ladder out of reach its why now there is 0 loyalty to companies job hoping pays statisticaly more even with down time.

A lot of these guys dont last because a lot of the guys running the crew expect their employees to work as hard as the bossman but at a fraction of the pay. The bossman struggles because the cost of the employee (on the books) is ridiculously high, which means they simply cant afford to pay them their true worth (assuming theyre good workers). The system is fucked and it sucks because most of the readoning behind the regulations are for good reasons like employee protections but theres no way to opt out and most of these laborers will never qualify for shit like workmans comp... everyone has to get their piece of your pie and that leaves very little for the bossman to pay their workers.

The stuff in the middle doesn’t cause problems. It’s simply leaves you open to be examined by your client and more importantly your client is looking to take as much money from you as possible so their only concern is how can I take money from this guy this leaving you open to be attacked by your client….

It’s a no-brainer as a business owner. No what your competition is charging and then decide how much you’ll work for to pay bills and then make a decision. If you don’t wanna pay your bills, then stop and get out and go work for somebody else again..

This may sound like nonsense, but I was exactly where he was early on and I learned a valuable technique. The customer often has unrealistic expectations, but if I can reframe their concerns and funnel those concerns onto a path that is doable they then become right. If we can rephrase their concerns and guide them in a consultative process to a logical, doable solution. Then the customer is indeed always right. Doesn’t work 100% of the time, but works way more often than not.

I’ve repeated that famous quote so many times and people have such a hard time wrapping their heads around it. It’s not a zero sum game, when one company wins it doesn’t mean everyone else loses because “a rising tide raises all ships”.

I'm 60 and it great health. I work beside a great company that treats it people good and has a great team. I'd love to work directly for them, but i'm 10 years in with the 3rd temp agency for the same company that has the contract I work under as a support contractor. I'd love to find a company that would appreciate dedication and hard work.

That's because a bunch of shit managers want to pay honest employees a shit wage so they can ride around in a 150,000 pavement princess while loyal employees wear 5 year old company shirts with holes in them. People don't give a damn about the job because YOU don't give a damn about them!

This ☝🏻……it amazes me that this isn’t the conversation. You can talk all day about pay and benefits, etc…..but at the end of the day everyone settles into their pay and then the true worker comes out. If you are lazy and don’t care, no amount of money in the world will change that 🤷🏼

It's not about people not wanting to work, it's about people not wanting to work in bad conditions and/or for bad pay. That's what these business owners keep forgetting. We have to keep a roof over our heads and eat too and we don't want to spend 40+ hours a week just to barely squeak by.
