I would add that too many musicologists reaserching Ancient Greek Music are unfamiliar with Mideast music, Byzantine Music or Ottoman Music, that preserved a good deal of the Ancient material as documented abundantly by Greek, Arab and Ottoman musicologists. It behooves the European researchers to study a few more years and to become familiar with Al Farabi, Bourgault Ducoudray and Raouf Yekta Bey...and of course to familiarize themselves with the music of the geographical areas mentioned. The ottoman tanbur and the Turkish kanun should be studied for their intervalic divisions. There is also a Byzantine lute or Lavta.

I am hopeful that the respected researchers have read Etudes sur la Musique Ecclesiastique Grecque by Bourgault Ducoudray, Hachette Paris 1877. This researcher shows that the Byzantine modes still in use today are the hypo forms of ancient modes. The Dorian mode is found in the Chant Doxa Patri for example.

Gosh shocked that the Organ is in this parlous condition. I went to the Opening recital in the 90's given By Dr Roy Massey following the rebuild by Nicholson of Worcester. Then some years later correct me if I am wrong there was a serious fire nr the blower in the chancel . Can't remember if there was damage done ? But to hear that there is problems with notes not sounding key actions etc and how dusty the Organ chamber and the condition of the blower is. Is a surprise. I wish u every success with the Organ restoration. As a matter of Fact Birmingham Cathedral where I am was rebuilt a few years later by Nicholson . But given the fact it is in use every day etc the Organ is in good condition but does require a overhaul in the near future.
