A Lifetime Measured in Miles
Приєднався 22 сер 2023
I was looking for a new direction on my UA-cam content, previous channels were all about motorcycles, but I realised there was so much more to my life and that most of my hobbies involved travelling distances and over many miles,.
Running, cycling, walking, swimming and of course my greatest passion motorcycles, all see the miles go by and the years quickly follow. Other lifetime hobbies like gaming and music fill in the gaps. So here it is, my little slice of existence.
Welcome to the machine, where I live by two simple rules, it’s nice to be nice and if you haven’t got anything nice to say, say nothing…….

loved the video kinda making me start looking on ebay for a zzr 1100 missing mine big time ohh and was that a pot hole that made u squeel lol
Good luck on the search. Thanks for watching
That's what a lot of people forget who own bikes, they must be ridden regularly to keep them in shape which lessens problems ocurring from lack of use.
@@wombat1238marsupial Yes that's true, luckily It's a pleasure not a chore 😊 thanks for watching.
Ive always used a front wheel chock to hold the bike !
@@jimbalshaw7347 That sounds like another good idea, thanks for watching and for the tip.
I have a D5, had her for 7 years now, i love it :)
@@druidlx2674 They are special bikes. Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy and stay safe.
Beautiful Motorcycle. The Street Bob is My favorite Softail Harley Davidson. Add some saddlebags to it and a fairing, sissybar and you have it ready for touring too.
@@silkycherry Yes it is a lovely Harley, it looks fantastic and that motor is a joy, I really enjoyed it. I was looking at this, the standard softail and the Sports Glide. All great. Still trying to decide. Thanks for commenting and for watching.
Thanks for the video! Is there any way to re-position those cables so that they do not obstruct one's view of the instrument cluster? I've seen this on other bikes as well like the Kawasaki KLX 300. It seems very annoying.
@@DarkHorseCrusader i think on the Rally its not an issue. It is annoying so I agree there. Thanks for watching.
Not holding the (left side) handlebar with your thumb under - VERY bad habit and VERY DANGEROUS!
@@vordan7111 I had a repetitive wrist injury about 10 years ago, I could not use my left hand, ended up for a few years riding DCT's so that I could let it recover. It was a habit I adopted as it reduced the pain. I have obviously built my hand strength up on my tendons over the years to compensate. I have been trying to see if I can revert but seems to be hard for me to do so. It's a fair point and I take it on board. Thanks for watching. Stay safe.
I'm looking to buy one just now. Its a toss up between zzr1100 and the 1200.

gloves mate, get them on, were only here once, great bike.
Yes I have already had my ticking off and accept it humbly. Quite right to pick up on it, I was being lazy and care free. I accept its not a good strategy. Thanks for watching and for the comment.
Thankyou for taking time to make these ZZR videos. Ive owned a '99 D7 for 17yrs and recently thought about selling. Your video has made me see sense. No way am i selling. Thanks again 👍🏻
That's great to hear. 17 years is a good chunk of your life and I applaud you for keeping it for so long. It's irreplaceable and it's a slice of some of the best Japanese engineering. You have a great history and connection with yours and that's priceless. Hope you continue to enjoy it for many more years to come. Thanks for watching. Riding without gloves!? First thing you put down when you fall, bare skin and tarmac even at walking pace, doesn't bear thinking about.
@@jackn4853 Hi Jack, yes high price to pay for laziness, thanks for watching.
90's bikes are gaining popularity as they offer so much for so little. I have a slowly growing collection because I can have several for far less than the cost of anything new. For me the big difference is now I don't need reliability so much as I work from home, I have time to tinker in the garage and I have the experience and tools to fix most problems.
@@presstodelete1165 Yes that's the position I find myself in. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
I drive a cagiva navigator, can get most parts of other bikes, just have to watch my bodywork and make my own chain guides😂
@@antonjoubert6980 Its great to see unique bikes being kept alive through others determination and skill. Thanks for watching, take care.
Nice ride .I have a D 1994. Thank you for letting us hear your ZZR in it's glory. I enjoyed it but Just one small thing, why no gloves / boots?
@@davidharris5736 Thanks for Watching David. Yes my bad, it's the old just nipping out for a quick spin. No excuse I know. I had had a very busy weekend in the garden and it was a last minute thought on a very muggy day. But you are right to comment, it's not good practice.
What's not to like here ZZR 1100 are absolute beautiful bikes I absolutely loved my teacher's ZZR 1100 everything was cool as about it and your right these were the super bikes before super bikes were a thing really.
@@ThomasDoubting5 Indeed and thanks for Watching Thomas. Live the dream whilst you can.
Another great video mate. I have a video on YT on why I love the ZZR 1100 and I echo your sentiments exactly on things like ABS etc. Ride Fast, Ride Safe mate.
Thanks Michael, appreciate you taking the time to comment and for watching. I look forward to revisiting your channel.
A lovely example mate. It is good that I left the UK over 20 years ago because I used to pin my ZZR 1100 all the time. I would not survive there now with all your speed cameras etc. In regard to the handling, small changes can make a huge difference. I have matched front progressive springs and a rear shock set up for my riding style and the concentric adjusters rotated 180 degrees that totally transforms the turn in. With those mods it easily keeps up with most thing around the bends and leaves many others red faced when they realize it older than they are. I am lucky enough to own a ZZR 1100, ZX12R and a ZX14R. The 12 and 14 are of course faster but there is just something about riding the 1100 that "stirs the soul" and leaves me with a stupid grin on my face for ages afterwards. Any bike which can manage 180, like the ZZR, is by definition, very fast. Love your videos mate and keep on enjoying the ZZR.
Nice to see another ZZR fan. In regard to the problem with the front mudguard (as you say a well known issue) I got fed up with it and fitted a 1 piece item from Japan. Looks just like the original, removed the weak spot and is much easier to take off.
Thanks Michael, I have watched your channel and really enjoyed it, just subscribed. Where in Japan did you order it from? Did you have to paint it to match. Keep up the great content, I will tune in more, thanks for watching.
Great machine. I got mine (D model, 29k now) a few years back, new fork springs, shock, brakes, disks and exhaust system. You are right, so many are completely shot! You got a good one!
@@david_new46 Hi David, yes sadly with all that power and braking, the consumables can suffer and can be expensive to sort, so a lot just get left to rally on as they are and end up pretty knackered. Kawasaki Quality was not so great then either. Nice to see a good few still out there and still loved by so many. Mostly old crocks like myself. Thanks for watching.
sweet machine mister
@@sparky9250 Thank You SIr and thanks for watching.
Nice bike man.
@@nahuel413 Thank you kindly. Appreciate you taking the time to comment and for watching/
Lovely stuff.
@@nickbitten9910 Cheers and thanks for watching 👍
Yours looks sweet. If my bike had the original exhausts I’d definitely look after them, but they’re very heavy, really heavy. I swapped mine to a set a Delkevich full system, carbon cans; they’re less than half the weight and aid the bike’s ability to turn quicker, although a fair bit louder. I’ve got bar risers as I found it a little bit heavy on the wrists. The risers make a difference. I have a touring screen but I’m quite broad shouldered and 6 foot tall and found I’m being battered by the wind. I bought a screen extender that bolts on to the top and it makes a world of difference at high speed. I get hardly any flies now on my visor and much less buffering (although it looks a bit shit 😂).
@@gdfggggg All sounds like great mods. 👌
I found the best way to pillion is to have one hand on the tank, and one hand on the rear rail. It’s so much better, when going fast. When going slower you can relax a bit. You’re right, straight line speed is brutal. Anything over 6000rpm is a bit pointless as it’s just too fast. If you want it to handle better, you can flip the chain adjuster 180. It changes the steering angle. The downside is, the rear wheel stays on the ground when it’s on the centre stand and high speed stability is marginally affected, but there’s little chance you’ll be going fast enough to notice. I love my ZZR, it’s my baby 😂
@@gdfggggg Thanks for watching and the advice, I knew about the chain adjusters but for how i ride nowadays 😜 I am happier to leave be and easier to oil the chain on the centre stand. It’s certainly been the love of my brother’s life.
The bike still cuts a fine profile even in today's high-tec rider modes and all the wizardry that new bikes give you.
@@wombat1238marsupial It’s an acoustic wonder in a very lost digital age 👍
absolutely bullet proof engine thats a realy nice example you have there nice one and its not even run in yet lol
@@sparky9250 Yes it’s really a great find. Timeless.
I knew what it was at once. I have a D model. Nice video, I liked the 'music' throughout.
@@davidharris5736 Thanks David and well done, yes its a glorious soundtrack, a Kawasaki Inline 4 from that era. Hope you are still enjoying yours, stay safe and thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Happy days- i remember riding a 'C' model years ago and being very impressed.
@@nickbitten9910 Hi Nick, yes it’s hard to believe they mostly don’t get a second look nowadays and used prices even for the best example you can find is still less than the price of a new monkey bike. However track a nice one down and you are still rewarded with something very special. Slice of Japanese mechanical bliss. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
@@ALifetimeMeasuredinMiles - many thanks mate. The one I rode was a big step up from the GPZ 500 I was used to. I recall the Z had lots of heat roasting my inside leg when in heavy traffic. This has made me want to visit my Kwaka specialist now to see if they can source a decent one ( the wife may have something to say).
The D models are the better ones to take a punt on, the first models or C models from 1990-93 are getting rarer in standard trim which is what you want with these gorgeous bikes. That turbine ram-air sound is sheer music to the ears😊😊👍👍
@@wombat1238marsupial Yes, the D’s were better finished, I have had two c’s and two d’s in the past. I think clean models of both variants are getting more difficult to find. However an early C model in blue in good order will no doubt be the collectors item but I think there will be very few that achieve that mark. Most have just simply been neglected and run into the ground. Kawasaki in-line fours just have their own sound that is pure nostalgia. Thanks for watching.
zzr 1100 my fave ever
@@sparky9250 Spot on Sparky, that didn’t take long, well done and thanks for watching.
I have a '91 K100 and an '88 Heritage Softail (both with sidecars). They are completely different motorcycles with completely different philosophies of motorcycling, but I love them both.
Excellent interview. Nigel Farage speaks more sense and truth than all the politicians in the Government put together. Reform gets my vote.

@@rosarioroberto5823 Too kind. Thanks for watching.
Looked like a great event, shame about your mate's mishap. How many miles on the Harley? not good having a slipping clutch.
@@wombat1238marsupial just under 17000 miles so that’s not so great, only did in 5th but believe that’s the start. Just rode around it and the bike was a brilliant long distance tool. My mate did his ankle on the way down, caught it on a pothole coming out the filling station.. Rode down, next day he rode home as it was not great, he rode about 500 miles before finding out it was broken.
I could here the struggle with the bike on the gravel and yeah those big foot side stand accessories are a must. A Busa sidecar combo😊😊👍👍
@@wombat1238marsupial The Busa was amazing combo. Yes just turning 60 and a 400kg bike was taxing. I wish I had changed the battery for the second part it was three times harder, not a happy place for me or the bike but the reward was getting there and enjoying a great event. Thanks for watching. 👍
I dont find the indicators a problem.
The fuel filter can be a problem on the K100s so I guess it may also be the same on the 1100 also the engine breather can perish
Cheers for that, appreciated, thanks for watching.
I have a k75 rt 1990 it’s an excellent tourer and runs like a top
Bonjour.
Bon voyage.
Na, Na mate. It’s the operator. Just wait till your on a wee busy naggery town roundabout AND have learned the switches , you can flick between L & R & cancel soooo smoothly. Ive a ‘92 K100rs ,had her 20 years ,mid 40 thou miles, my magic carpet. ENJOY a classic long life motorcycle.
Totally agree 😂 Thanks for watching, they are very special bikes.
Bonjour. Bonne continuation . Christian Fournier .

Cheers Gary, I fell out of love with the 1500 , but that’s just me, they are loved by many. The 1800 DCT was fantastic but just too rich for me in the end but loved it whilst I had it. Thanks for the comments and watching.
Bonjour.
Thank you for the comments, the luggage racks came with it when I bought it. I would agree they are superb quality, So many neat touches to the design. That’s good to hear a decent mileage and that seems to be the common theme. Anyway thanks for watching and safe riding.
I make my videos for myself really. One day I'll be too old to ride and I'll have something to look back upon. The past is always less complicated. It reminds us of less responsibility and when we saw things without over thinking. Those first and second generation cybermen were truly terrifying. After that, they suffered under bad script writing and very poor musical accompaniment.
That’s exactly the same for me, a wee video diary. Very true sentiments, agree totally. Dr Who was one of the very few things we had back then, in reality it’s always been a bit of a let down but it was a thing of its time much the way Star Trek was. It’s the memories of watching it with my Dad that makes it a happy place to be. Thanks for the great comments and taking the time to watch.
Absolutely spot on ..,my channel is a diary channel for family in Poland to watch ..You tube is a historians delight ..people just being people and mapping the world arround them ..The huge chsnnels will end up in the fishpaper of tomorrow ..The humanist channels will be archived for the students of the next century ..👍 😁 💯🤓
