A Lifetime Measured in Miles
Приєднався 22 сер 2023
I was looking for a new direction on my UA-cam content, previous channels were all about motorcycles, but I realised there was so much more to my life and that most of my hobbies involved travelling distances and over many miles,.
Running, cycling, walking, swimming and of course my greatest passion motorcycles, all see the miles go by and the years quickly follow. Other lifetime hobbies like gaming and music fill in the gaps. So here it is, my little slice of existence.
Welcome to the machine, where I live by two simple rules, it’s nice to be nice and if you haven’t got anything nice to say, say nothing…….

Thanks, I agree 100 percent regarding sound👍 I've had over 70 bikes, kz1000 best engine sounds, of all... Just bought a zz, 11 Have not ridden yet, (carb issues) But looking forward 🎉
@@DanFredrick-w2y Grand. Thanks for watching, good luck with the new bike, they are fantastic bikes
Enjoyed the video, Lad🤟🤟
@@johnjcole8182 Cheers John, thanks for watching.
@ALifetimeMeasuredinMiles I've just picked up a 1990 K100lt. It's not been cared for too much. Ex English police bike... It's a winter project, and i'm sooo looking forward to it. Your video showed me what to expect from it when right... Not keeping it original, though. It's going to be customised🤭🤭🤟 Cheers👍
@johnjcole8182 Grand, great no matter what you do with it, good luck.
Nice ride mate, the road looks like fun. You might need a new left hand glove 🙂. I agree with everything you said about the ZZR. I think one of the reasons the bike has nor attained classic status is that there were just so many sold that they are not rare enough but I suspect that will change in the future. Looking at you all wrapped up and looking cold brings back memories. When I lived in the UK over 20 years ago I used to ride all year round on my ZZR. Glad I have sunshine all year round now. Another advantage is that they have no need to put salt on the roads here so rust is rare on both bikes and cars. Enjoy your ride mate.
@@MichaelZZRrider Thank you for watching Michael. I know of your own love for all things ZZR. As I expected the ZZR has the most interest, with my own memories and time with them, I fully understand why. Keep enjoying your dry weather and supplying your own custodian efforts for us to enjoy.
Hi paul i had 2 zzr 1100 a c1 and a d7 in its day was a proper tool a mans bike ! Very fast the handling was a little vague if you were pushing on at pace the d7 model was a better bike like you say can get these for very little money .
@@andyrawlings5369 You are right. If not set up right they can be a real handful on the roads and a serious death trap. However having had 5 of them, this one is I think as good as you can get it. Another wonderful machine. I feel like a very lucky custodian. Thanks for watching Andy, stay safe.
Hi paul its andy you ok glad you are liking the vfr1200 i know you had one before still have mine and the 2 750 models all mine away for the winter now my 1200 love every minute off riding it had it 3yr now I have a double buble screen on and it works well as had my seat done by a guy tony archer not far from me thats made it loads more better on the bum . Also got some bar risers off ebay from china same idea as the 750/800 ones take the clip on off and its a spacer that drops down the fork lifts bar a good half inch very easy to fit takes about 10 minutes. Yeah my gripes are find clutch heavy and fuel range not the best but rest off the bike is great mine on 15500 miles now still low miles done 8000 thousand on it last month got 2 new tyres for it michelin road 6 gt had road 5 before these tyres are the best ones i have ever had last for good miles and the grip is great not tried the 6 ones yet due to winter been here will update you when i use it in the spring next year.
@@andyrawlings5369 Thanks for all the info. Yes the seat is something I will get done, next year. Yes a heavy clutch might become an issue but I will live with it. It would not have killed them to make the tank a wee bit bigger. However, the ergonomics, the slip on luggage, glorious shaft drive and the wonderful V4 and timeless design make up for it all. Happy safe riding Andy, thanks for watching.
No gloves very unwise
@@johnalanstopford4556 Yes I agree, bad habit I have stopped. Thanks for watching.
Hi, I’ve heard rumors about the heat transmitted to the right leg from the radiator and the exhaust manifold near the cylinder. Have you noticed anything? Thanks for the video, it’s a great review! :)
@@thefulldrivehotrockband5963 I cannot say I did, I also owned a crf250l and never had any issues with that. I do live in Scotland, which does not have that many warm days. So for me it certainly was never an issue. The day I test rode that one was decent warm weather but it never felt hot to me. Thanks for watching and good luck on whatever you ride.
@@ALifetimeMeasuredinMiles Thank you for your reply... Have a good day. :)
I have the ZX11C model! It is a beast!
@@k.i.i.3699 Grand beast they are. Thanks for watching.
Nice job. You're a better man than me. I have developed a less involved way to paint fork legs. I use Hammerite silver high gloss and a very fine, really small brush. Leave the fork legs on the bike, sand them down and then paint them by hand with this small brush. On my VFR you can see it was done by hand when you look closely. On older BMWs you almost cannot see that the legs were painted by hand. They have a sort of rough surface that hides brush strokes very well.
@@carsyoungtimerfreak1149 Too kind. I did think about using Hammerite but was not too sure about how it might react to etching primer and Lacquer. Thanks for commenting and watching. Great to hear from other VFR owners.
@@ALifetimeMeasuredinMiles I do not use any primer with Hammerite. 2 coats are sufficient. I tried lacquer and that did not work well. The lacquer I used did react with the Hammerite. So I now only use Hammerite and that works well, quite durable.
@carsyoungtimerfreak1149 Yes I am a fan of it for many things. Useful to hear your own experience.
Thanks for the summary of what you have done as I am about to make some changes to mine. Can you let me know how your screen preforms. Also the make of the rear rack and sissy bar. Thanks very much.
@@thomasbuckley34 Hi Thomas, I will let you know about the screen. I am 6 ft, 33 inch inside leg. Just for reference. It was a Harley Davidson Genuine Sissy bar and Rack. Thanks for watching and good luck with the bike.

Great looking bike & great prospective to have an older bike. I hankered for the ZZR1100 but was a bit scared of having an older machine vs current ethanol fuel etc. I ended up buying a 03 ZZR1200 in june this year - love it!! They are great bikes. Thanks for the interesting video & ride safe 👍
@@neilprosser4040 Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. Enjoy your ZZR1200, another great machine, hope it brings you many happy miles.
I’ve used GoPros for years and always been happy with the video quality from them but they simply aren’t reliable. I’ve lost lots of footage with it freezing up and also lost audio. A few months ago I bit the bullet and invested in a DJI Action 4. I already had a DJI drone so I knew how good their cameras were so the DJI action camera was a no brainer. Since switching the action camera over to the DJI I’ve had zero issues, the audio quality is much better and it’s simply worked every single time. Your spot on when you say that GoPro will have to up their game if they want to stay on top but I personally think they have had their day now. The DJI set up and reliability leaves GoPro behind!
The best stuff in life gets put into barrels and bottles then sits for a while and comes out again as glorious new stuff.

I have been riding this bike for many years, a BMW K1100 LT 1994. It is a wonderful motorbike, always was and still is. Very good power, always there when you need it in any gear. I've always liked the design of the VFR1200. I think the design of the tank makes the opinion that it holds more fuel than it does in reality. Just convince yourself of being 46 again and do another 500 mile tour😊😊
@@wombat1238marsupial I will do just that. The outcome will be interesting. I never really found the tank range an issue, I always stop before 150 miles on any bike. Thanks for watching and for commenting. Happy riding, stay safe.

Thanks for the video! Is there any way to re-position those cables so that they do not obstruct one's view of the instrument cluster? I've seen this on other bikes as well like the Kawasaki KLX 300. It seems very annoying.

Not holding the (left side) handlebar with your thumb under - VERY bad habit and VERY DANGEROUS!
@@vordan7111 I had a repetitive wrist injury about 10 years ago, I could not use my left hand, ended up for a few years riding DCT's so that I could let it recover. It was a habit I adopted as it reduced the pain. I have obviously built my hand strength up on my tendons over the years to compensate. @@jackn4853 Hi Jack, yes high price to pay for laziness, thanks for watching.
90's bikes are gaining popularity as they offer so much for so little. I have a slowly growing collection because I can have several for far less than the cost of anything new. For me the big difference is now I don't need reliability so much as I work from home, I have time to tinker in the garage and I have the experience and tools to fix most problems.

Another great video mate. I have a video on YT on why I love the ZZR 1100 and I echo your sentiments exactly on things like ABS etc. Ride Fast, Ride Safe mate.
Thanks Michael, appreciate you taking the time to comment and for watching. I look forward to revisiting your channel.
A lovely example mate. It is good that I left the UK over 20 years ago because I used to pin my ZZR 1100 all the time. I would not survive there now with all your speed cameras etc. In regard to the handling, small changes can make a huge difference. I have matched front progressive springs and a rear shock set up for my riding style and the concentric adjusters rotated 180 degrees that totally transforms the turn in. With those mods it easily keeps up with most thing around the bends and leaves many others red faced when they realize it older than they are. I am lucky enough to own a ZZR 1100, ZX12R and a ZX14R. The 12 and 14 are of course faster but there is just something about riding the 1100 that "stirs the soul" and leaves me with a stupid grin on my face for ages afterwards. Any bike which can manage 180, like the ZZR, is by definition, very fast. Love your videos mate and keep on enjoying the ZZR.
@@MichaelZZRrider Yes all magical, I have had a few 1400s too but 1100 has raw soul. Thanks for watching.
Nice to see another ZZR fan. In regard to the problem with the front mudguard (as you say a well known issue) I got fed up with it and fitted a 1 piece item from Japan. Looks just like the original, removed the weak spot and is much easier to take off.
Thanks Michael, I have watched your channel and really enjoyed it, just subscribed. Where in Japan did you order it from? Did you have to paint it to match. Keep up the great content, I will tune in more, thanks for watching.
Great machine. I got mine (D model, 29k now) a few years back, new fork springs, shock, brakes, disks and exhaust system. You are right, so many are completely shot! You got a good one!
@@david_new46 Hi David, yes sadly with all that power and braking, the consumables can suffer and can be expensive to sort, so a lot just get left to rally on as they are and end up pretty knackered.
