I love Bette when she sings she smiles
The truth is, performance can carry you along on top of your emotions. You can be inches from collapse and the force of performance can hold off the edge. You don't want to disappoint the folks in the audience. You want them to feel your emotions not be drowned by them. So swallow that knot in your throat and keep belting it out.
Mama RU always educating the children
work, mamma
You can tell Bette patterned herself after dusty
Beautifully sung and meaningful
She always sounds so beautiful when she sings this, I always get chillis & misty eyed
Bless her heart, I feel so sad for her, I feel so sad for all the ones that she lost, that is hard to lose that many friends.
POW WOW WOW!
Sad and very difficult time for so many. Still miss Richard, Lynn, Jonathan, John, Gary, and so many more

"In My Life" is a Beatles song that she sang in "For The Boys". "Friends" has been her theme song for years.
02:25
You should put "In My Life" in the title of this video. This is a tune she's never put on record.
harvey1954, yes it is on her Greatest hits CD, & I know it is on another CD, I have heard her sing it on her CD's which are all on UA-cam, she sung it live on a few shows too.
It's on the "For the Boys" soundtrack. That's a really good soundtrack.
Thank you RPDR for bringing me to this beautiful song that right now I see more like a feeling a few of us understand
Did Rupual Deag race send u here?
Love this!!
Thank Ru for teaching me about this one. This is so moving
RuPaul's Drag Race Season 13 Finale brought me here. Beautiful moment, Bette. ❤️

I cried when i discovered this last night because of rpdr and cause a year ago aproximately i was diagnosed with hiv and was able to get undetectable in less than a month and i just cried last night thinking about all the people that have died so i can have a new lease on my life again and can grow old and enjoy life.
@@gentlemanbmocosplay2635 I was very touched as well. Still crying as I type this .
Bravo for Rupaul for that beautiful moment
Same
@@gentlemanbmocosplay2635 we love you so much!!!!!!!
This is what prayer at church should be
At the end she was linked arm in arm with Carol Channing and then 30 years later took on the role in Hello Dolly.
It’s AIDS to AIDS 🙄
she speaks of Dusty with great affection.
THANK YOU, Bette for your kind words and professional opinion of the WONDERFUL DUSTY
for the boys, please
The best I ever saw Bette midler was 1972 at the capital theater in Passaic, nj. That's when she was still born in Paterson, nj, just over the mountain from Passaic. And Melissa Manchester was the lead harlette, trashing it up with the divine miss m. A shamed they both abandoned these personalities and becam vanilla and mainstream.
What year is this? Saw her at an AIDS benefit at Lincoln center, she was younger and very sincere saying that she had seen too much death. And did "I'll be seeing you" unbelievable. The east coast still has a rawness and sincerity that is missing in la.
1991
It would have been interesting to know what song she was referring to regarding Dusty Springfield. Bette is spot on regarding Dusty Springfield.
Wishin' & Hopin'
I love bette so much! She is my number one favorite actress and singer. My idol is her.
Anyone have "l'll be seeing you" from an earlier AIDS benefit in New York? So wonderful to see Melissa Manchester, ones of the original harlettes, there. She and the divine miss m played off each other so wonderfully back in 1972. The capital in Passaic nj. Anyone have a recording or of miss m at the theater at the Bergen mall in Paramus nj? That's when miss m claimed to be born in Paterson, nj. Maybe miss m is a jersey girl and Bette midler was born in Hawaii. I actually think Paterson is more interesting than Hawaii as much as I think the divine miss m is more interesting than Bette midler. Oh well.
who is the person beside Bette? last to leave stage.
Carol Channing
Carol Channing
The LEGENDARY Carol Channing!!!!!!
Thank you for posting this! I really want to watch old episodes and share with family, but I can't even buy an episode! Where did they hide the show?
Same here. I don't think they have ever had the series recorded for sale. Sad.
Bette Midler, Miss Devine!!...She is a Legend!! she is one of the last apart from Barbara Streisand, ultimate true performer, whom can change a persons mood on a dime!!..Sings with so much feeling, and takes us All on her journey.
this is so touching and emotional. its very hard to pull a song and sing it live when this song is to those people whom you love but already past...but the Divine Ms. M. is truly an artist and she definitely and as always be a legend now and then...<3<3<3
@natalieinge if that doesnt make you want to cry theres something wrong with the world
Troy, you got that right, if Bette's tears don't stir your emotions, & make you cry, their is definitely something wrong, it really takes someone without a conscience or empathy that can't cry when they see her cry.
Bette's one of those people that never fails to amaze you think you know what she does and then she amazes you again
Love you Bette.
I was there for all 3 days of shooting this, and have many pictures, some which were up on the BBC website for a couple of years. I had a great time...and I was on the other side of the gate when Bette walked in. The heat was dreadful, and I can't believe they held up. I had a squirt fan that I sprayed them with that I kept in a cooler. Great memories!
@YoyoMammogram no she does not. she started out singing cabaret at the continental bathhouse in NY, got the nickname "Bathhouse Betty" and was a big hit on the gay scene, and obviously being in showbiz had a lot of gay friends. she did a lot of aids benefits and charity work. she has said that the people she started out with are nearly ALL dead from aids now and its a cause close to her heart.
Natalie Inge, yes you are completely right, she has lost now over 50 friends to it, it was hard for her to sing at that bennifit, she was crying
you hear she has a difficult time herself. so touching!!
Hales, this video is awesome. I don't know how she made it through the song. Its a really touching performance. Thanks for posting it !
Allison Slowski, I don't either, she began to cry as soon as she began singing, she had lost so many friends, she was so devastated over what was happening to them, she has a heart as big as Texas, bless her heart, I am glad she has so many friends that care about her, me included, I just want her to be happy.
No one can convey feelings, in a song, better than The Divine Miss M.
i love you bette
Bette is a real class act
real cool
Gosh, that was so much fun! I do so admire Bette for all her hard work! And she's not afraid to get in with everyone else and get dirty to get the work done! She's an amazing woman!
Hi Hayley, So good to see Bette's city gardens projects. Read about it but really good to see her have such a great time. She is terrific, isn't she? Thank you, Debby
Oh Hayley! You know how to brighten my day. Thank you soooo MUCH! I love you!
thanks sooooooo much hayley ilysfm
To Britney Spears, Madonna, Ashlee Simpson and Avril Lavigne: Take note, Miss M has more talent in her pinky toe than any of you have in your own body. This woman is THE consumate entertainer. You MUST see her live in concert. She will take you from laughing hysterically to sobbing your eyes out within a second. Bette truly is the last of the true entertainers. May she live forever.
Someone make an NFT of this comment lmao the date and the singers mentioned is an internet pop culture time capsule
You can tell this comment was written 14 years ago lol. Ashlee Simpson and Avril Lavigne are long forgotten about
