Silky Saws - It is all about the Teeth - Sixty Second Review
A quick short format Sixty Second Review of four examples of the variety of Silky's saw teeth.
Silky have a reputation for high quality saws that cut cleanly and have a long life, making them especially sought after and popular with those in the know. With a great saw, the secret is in its teeth, the size and shape of those teeth making all the difference. Silky produce a dazzling array of different saws with many types and size of teeth.
Tactical Reviews is making a review series focusing on the stars of the Silky show, the teeth.
Silky themselves list the following major categories of teeth:
Extra Large Teeth - Typically, this saw will be for use in forestry or heavy duty arborist work. The teeth configuration will range between 3 and 7 teeth per 30mm and will give a very aggressive cut. In general you will be surprised by the smoothness of the cut.
Large Teeth - A saw with large teeth will be ideal for use in heavy/medium pruning tasks, root cutting and construction. The number of teeth will range between 7 and 8 teeth per 30mm. An aggressive and smooth cut will be achieved.
Medium Teeth - Ideal for pruning work or construction, a medium teeth configuration usually has 10 teeth per 30mm and will give a cleaner finish when compared to larger teeth saws.
Fine Teeth - These saws are likely to be used for gardening and woodworking. A fine teeth configuration typically comprises of 13 to 20 teeth per 30mm and will achieve a clean finish.
Extra Fine Teeth - These saws will have very fine teeth ideal for woodworking. Ranging between 20 and 32 teeth per 30mm, a very smooth finish can be expected.

Civivi Sentinel Strike and Vision FG Damascus - Detailed Review
Переглядів 8319 годин тому
A detailed review of two Civivi best sellers, the Sentinel Strike and Vision FG in Damascus steel. NOTE: The Vision FG uses the 'Superlock Mechanism', designed by Snecx, and throughout the video I refer to this as a 'recoil lock' which isn't strictly correct, as the lock is more like a combination of the compression lock and recoil lock. I wasn't going to re-record the video to correct this, so...

A quick short format Sixty Second Review of the Civivi Vision FG, a unique pocket knife, designed by Snecx Tan. The knife is enhanced with the 'Superlock Mechanism', designed by Snecx. The 'Superlock Mechanism' is something Snecx and WE Knife worked on for years. (In this video I have been referring to it as a recoil lock.) For this lock, the spine of the handle has a titanium bard which hinges...

Is the number on screen a timestamp? I feel that an approximate cut time would be both more intuitive and useful for the viewer
Solid vid, beautiful knife, never heard of the steel though... comparable 2 what?
Hi there,is a8 aus 8? Or a carbon steel that simply shares a similar number?
A8 Mod is an update to A8 and is a very tough tool steel. Steels and their compositions is too big a subject to cover here, so I will need to direct you to Uncle Goolge for more on that 🙂
ktorý blbec vymyslel tú zadnú šrobovaciu časť!?? mali by ste ho vyhodiť z fabriky! ludia z mojho okolia prestali kupovat vaše nože po tom, čo ste zmenili tú zadnú časť!! je to obrovská chyba, inak by sa vaše nože urcite predávali viac! ja sám by som si kúpil niektoré avšak nekúpim pre tú šrobovaciu zátku!
Looks beautifully made!
Excellent craftsmanship.
200 quid for an "EDC" bit driver + a couple of bits. Makes Wera, Snap-on, and Wiha (with more functionality) look like downright bargains. This isn't an "EDC" bit holder - I can appreciate it as art, or a piece of man-jewelry, or an expensive fidget spinner - but an actual tool, it is not. Can you imagine beating this thing with a hammer to pry off the lid of a paint can? I can with my PB Swiss, all day long. You "EDC" people are weird.
I got my Automesser with saw tooth blade in today (12/30/2024) I like it but it came with a very dull blade so after the New Year I will take it to a professional to put the first edge on it. Puma Knife Company USA has a sale on them for $279.99 (till January 6 2025) which is what i paid for it. The Automesser will replace my Puma SGB Buffalo Hunter I've been carrying for 8 years now.
Whiskey River down below appears have have critiqued this Spartan KA-Bar with some prickly points- ! I’m not particularly in agreement. He says he owns several- I think 5 of their brand. Knives are like cigars and some women I known… you’ve got good ones snd bad ones then the in-between. My belief is Spartan would not have given this KA-Bar the elite grade if it wasn’t up to the task.. secondly- I retired both military and LEO and not one time EVER was in a knife fight! So- I’ll bet his knives have never been in that arena… either. Spartan did a great job either way the KA-Bar… I didn’t purchase mine for combat use… but, I’m certain Spartan would back it up if it ever entered a war zone and failed. So- I disagree with his opinion- this is my opinion - make it yours.
What is the spring inside the metmo made from as I’m wondering if it is susceptible to getting rusty over time ?
Since the belt has a tiny bit of slack, would it be best to set it a degree or so lower to make up for it? Say if you want to sharpen at 20 degrees, have it set at 19?
I am unable to remove that temporarily side shield. Guide me, how should remove it
have a light weight with Rex 45 steel. Would like to get that Salt one day.
Just got one myself. A fantastic knife!
great review..Prefer this version without the gristle saw. . Make a version with the other side fully sharpened..??
How securely and firmly does it stay in the sheath without using the safety strap?
In the full review tacticalreviews.co.uk/?p=12697 I say how that secondary strap is redundant.
You might want to look into "BW German Army Legendary Paratrooper Knife"
Thats a replica
@@yeetee2781 you couldn't be more wrong. This was handed to me by Spyderco at IWA 2024. The genuine article.
YAAAAAWN.....
There is a sixty second short format review for those preferring a shorter video.
Owning a White Hunter from 1997. That would be my one-tool option if I be forced to choose one of the collection
Ive used mine and modified it but its still great ua-cam.com/video/1Srn48V9tBY/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
A knife for idiots, a monstrous weight (will you carry a kettlebell on your belt all day?). A lot of curved surfaces are difficult to wash off fat, blood or resin. It is completely unsuitable for butchering the carcass of an animal due to the balance. The large thickness hints that this is a spear tip, not a knife. When slicing vegetables, he will break them, not cut them.
I know a lot of military guys liked this knife. Myself? Never liked it for anything.
I thinned out the end ad now prefer it ua-cam.com/video/1Srn48V9tBY/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
Great Video! Very professional review, we like it! Best greeting from Germany and the PUMA-Werk :)
#1 first Tactical #2 hazard4 #3 Condor
There is a small dent in the blade offered as proof tat they hardness tested every blade, but they don't tell you the resulting HRc number.
I've had a few Puma's over the decades - including the White Hunter - but you are incorrect in your description of the leather thong/loop near the sheath belt loop as another "hanger". It is, of course, intended to be passed through the lanyard hole in the handle, then looped over the handle butt as a secondary "lock", to secure the knife in its sheath when bouncing around on horseback, and a well-used retaining "Snap" or Popper, pops open.
I have a white hunter from mid 60's that I had to get a replacement sheath for (leather dried out because of bad maintence on my part) hadn't used knife for years and was suprised at the very large price increase. I bought mine at military exchange for less than $70. New ones were in the $400 range.
Rubbish knife ....use kukri
No knife is for everyone, just like a Kukri isn't 🙂
ffs just get on with it. I couldn't even get to you unsheathing the knife.
@@crazyharry1586 I also create a short format 60 second review for those with less time. That might be better for you.
The upgrade was done to reduce cost of production and nothing else. With regular use and sharpening the gristle saw goes away. I don`t appreciate someone peeing down my neck, then telling me it`s raining outside.
Actually @barrycole not to blow my own trumpet, but I approached them and eventually persuaded Puma to allow customers to choose to have a plain edge, as adding the serration is a step easily removed from the manufacturing. The 'normal' version has the gristle saw. There is no cheaping out by Puma, instead they listened and gave customers a choice.
@@TacticalReviews Original design calls for stag handles. Even the wood and rivet set up of todays issue, cheapens the design. I have been around the knife game long enough, to know when it is time to break out the umbrella.
@@barrycole so you know the Automesser dates from the 60s with the wooden handle and was sold alongside the White hunter with stag handles since then.
Hello from PUMA, tacticalReviews is absolutely right. We have listened to many calls from our customers who asked for a version without a saw tooth. People complain that they can't carve well when they have a serrated blade. Additionally, we still sell all versions to this day: the White Hunter, the original Automesser, and the new version without a saw tooth. We are not cutting corners! :)
@@PUMA-WERK I am no longer interested in the brand. Too much rah- rah is what I learned. They priced themselves out of the game.
Nice review. I just got mine two days ago and i love it. Same as you i always struggled with the "saw teeth" on the blade. The newer models also have a much (2mm!) thicker tang and blade. so they seem sturdier than the already though knives. th only thing i thinkk hasnt improoved over the ages are the rivets on the Automesser. The brass rivets on the elder models had more charm imo. By the way: Mine has the serial number 6392. so just two higer than yours :) Greetings from Austria!
Thank you for posting this. Saw this concern on these glasses and loads of folks talking about how temporary isn't temporary etc... Hopefully the folks at Wiley X see this and make a similar modification to their base design.
I have the Puma White Hunter, got it when I went to Viet Nam back in the late 60s and still have it today
Automesser means in english Car Knife. As far as i (german) know, there was formerly also a sheet, you somehow could fix in your car. Would cause in current Germany lots of trouble, german Gouvernement has restricted knife law over the decades . This type of knife is a descendant of Waidblatt, or older Standhauer. Both knives are no more common among german language hunters, had been used as small machete to clean a path, and as light cleaver to cut game into halfes. Not so much for ,final stab' of wounded game.
good day to you , would you be kind and inform me and the viewers how to sharpen this serrated Enuff 2 , i have the non serrated one and love to get the serrated but worried for i know not the proper way sharpening it , have no problem sharpening regular edges on flat stones but serrated no not how , thank you.
There is a lot online about sharpening serrated edges. Spyderco's own Triangle Sharpener is an excellent option (which I have), and you can always use a standard stone just on the back as the serrations are a chisel grind.
@@TacticalReviews you are awesome thank you so much and all the very best to you
OK , the leather lace by handle is the 2nd retention device , you pass it thru the hole in the handle and loop over the handle .
That new Puma looks GREAT. I also did not like the gristle saw so I owned the smaller version which didn't have the serrated blade.
I've never owned a puma. Looks nice. Great design.
Great video! Speaking of Skinny how’s that tungsten skinny knife holding up?
That Sandrin Torino has been put into an emergency pack as I wanted the longest edge retention for emergencies.
Review is like an oasis. Sustained excellent views showing the design and build. High ratio of signal to noise, well done and thank you
This is my perfect camping knife.
This flashlight is so much powerful. But i prefer Imalent RS50 over this.
Love your long videos!! What’s the user case for this type of knife?? Keep up the amazing content 💪👍🫡
Typically the salt series are aimed at those working on, in or near the sea, or other highly corrosive environments. I personally use this knife in the garden where it get a lot of wet cutting use, wet by the sap of plants and trees and I just don't have to look after it apart from the odd ulrasonic bath to get the muck out and then sharpen.
Im actually kinda optimistic about eventually seeing one with a Spydiehole, and m398.
Can I put Fenix 21700 5000 mAh - V2 batteries in these lights to get a bit more juice out of them? They should fit but I wanted to make sure.
I already have an EDC screwdriver. It's an extension shaft for my Leatherman, and a whole bunch of extra bits, and it fits right in my Leatherman holster.
One is none ;-) But also, multi-tool screwdrivers and bitholders are not able to apply anywhere near the turning force this can. Yes they are convenient, but when you want to get serious, the MetMo Pocket driver really turns up the torque and doesn't need any special bits.
@TacticalReviews If you're talking about getting serious about repairing a wider variety of problems, I think you're in danger of leaving the realm of EDC. There's a limited amount of stuff I'm willing to carry upon my person. And that already includes things like a portable folding keyboard and phone stand, in my instance, and also a juice pack. Also things like a rain poncho and a first aid kit. I have a portable toolkit I take with me when I'm planning on doing repairs, which includes screwdrivers, a small socket set, an adjustable wrench, a lightweight hammer, and other things like that, but I don't walk around with it.
@pleappleappleap if it's not for you, it's not for you 👍
@@pleappleappleapit’s probably for your boyfriend. 😊
Which flashlight is the best and most powerful among the Imalent MS06, Fenix LR35R, and Fenix TK35 UE for night hunting?
Boring video
@@Hugoazul77 thanks for your insightful feedback.
There is a holster you can buy for the EDC35.
What holster?
