Corvette C5 Z06 Project Car Pt.1/5 Slow Crank

I blew the motor on my Corvette C5 base on track last year. A few months ago I found a C5 Z06 for sale and bought it, and I plan on swapping the motor into my base track car. The Z06 donor car did not come with a key, so I have swapped over the powertrain control module (PCM), and body control module (BCM) ignition assembly and key from the base to the Z06. This video series documents the proce...

How high would you say the car needs to be to do this job? What’s the bare minimum height you can get away with to do it?
XPsGarage is a good channel to follow if you need some more good info.
i have an auto do i have to take off the bell housing?
No you don’t
@ just did it the other day, but thanks 🙏
Hell Yeah dude!
I noticed with mine that it wont start or struggle unless the air filter, Maf with bridge/tube is connected to the throttle body. Just the smallest gap off the throttle body it would struggle.
That snap ring is the hardest part
Having done this job before on my Cayman - this is a great video of the process. Little helpful parts like showing an image of the connector and how it work. Finally, thanks for keeping the camera stable. So many one-handed tutorials out there that are a blurry mess. Great work!
Thanks! Very well explained and filmed
Thanks 👍👍👍👍👍
Brilliant videos, super clear and helpful
Brilliant thank you
Perfect
Kind of a pain for something so simple, but that's the price of mid-engine I suppose. Not any harder than doing brakes at least.
What is the tool called
“Fuel line disconnect tool”. I left a link in the description.
Thanks for the video, helped tremendously
Thanks for the video! Do you think it might be easier if you took the steering rack out?
Good information to me Tks
Genius video ! Please help I've change PCV already new spark plugs New coils, and it's smokes what could I check more? Cayman 2006 3.4s
Great videos, very helpful. Looking forward to one on you doing the air/oil separator and the air filter. Hint, hint. 😊
On my 987 my 2.25 ton jack will not get the car high enough to get the jack stands under, so consider height capability in addition to tonnage.
You can do it in stages. Jack up enough to get some wood under the wheels. Lower it on the wood. Then put wood on your jack to give the extra height you need.
You may want to fill more floor jack oil and/or purge air. I have a 2 ton low profile HF floor jack and works really well with my 987. Even have a cross beam which I use to jack up the rear all at once - luckily, the floor jack / cross beam combo is just low enough to fit under the car.
Nice video this is what I need it since I already started mine
Thank you, I am also a do it yourself. That video was excellent. Your attention to detail and explanation of everything you did and why was top notch. I have watched numerous corvette videos and you rank in top 2! Thank you again.
Excellent
Hey did you buy a fuel pump if so what brand did you go with ?
Thanks brk
My silly self used a few picks to gently separate those pesky inner tabs on my 2011 Chevy Silverado. Thank god theyre discontinued 😂
beautiful
Very good, simple and concise video. I plan on buying this setup soon, so thanks for the quick-watch heads up visual on what to expect. Just one tip about nomenclature: the cotter-pin ‘shafts’ as you called them, are “Clevis pins” 1:14
“Today I learned…”
Is there no front subframe then?
No “official” (or widely accepted) front jacking points besides the two mentioned in this video that I am aware of
@@MSWMotorsports You’re usually fine jacking on a front subframe
There are TWO front sub-frame (i.e., reinforced) jacking points which is not "officially" published but my alignment guy (who works with alot of Porsches) uses those sub frame jacking points on his lift for the alignment.
I just use a cut down piece of pex pipe and pliers works for all sizes
Great work I have to do one myself..
Was fortunate enough to get a car I never thought I would own. Thank you for this simple break down on picking her up. Getting ready to remove rims/calipers for some powder coating then in July applying a wrap!
What brand lines are you installing?
Just reinstalling stock ones
very helpful thank you
One out of the four inner catches was on outside of rib on the fuel filter. Was impossible to get it to release. Cut the filter to get it loose. I am told the GM has discontinued making this fuel supply line. Anyone have ideas where or how to get around this.
I liked the tool I used in the description, did you try with that tool?
They thoughtfully provided a tab to push down which lifts the plastic clip clear to detach the electrical connection from the coil pack
Indeed, although it can be difficult to get a good grasp on it
I am someone who enjoys working on my vehicles and found myself frequently asking, “am I going this right?”. The one area I don’t have direct training in, and so I appreciate this video. Well done and thank you.
Great demonstration.
Can you share the exact manufacturer and part number of the spark plugs you installed?
Bosch 79173
@@MSWMotorsports Thanks!
Thank you! Are there any O-rings in the valve cover openings that need to be replaced?
Nope, the coil packs and spark plugs just come right out and can be replaced. No valve cover work / gasket / o-ring replacement involved
Really great video, thanks for including the torque info 👍
Thanks for sharing this video i bought the engine hoist wanted to see if there is any video out on youtube for putting it together i gotta admit your video is one of the best. pulling a engine out on my 2006 Honda odyssey. Thanks again.
Good luck with the odyssey!
Nah
Well done.
Thank you! I've been terrified to get under there to access my engine. Could you perhaps put the tools you use and part numbers in the comments?
One additional piece of advice is to push on the car a few times once it’s on jack stands. If you can push on the car without it budging or wobbling, you can safely work under it. I typically need to work on slightly angled pavement and doing this helps me to know beforehand if I need to adjust a jack stand. Thanks for the great vid!
What year is your 987?
2008
Are you sure the coil bolts are T40? That's a big bolt! I thought they are t10...
Confirmed T40. T10 is very tiny, like a small machine screw for a laptop or cell phone
Thank you :)
Outstanding! Thank you!
