Trillium Hikes
Canada
Приєднався 10 тра 2019
Hi there folks, and welcome to my channel! I'm Mike and I started this channel after hiking a section of the Bruce Trail - an 890 KM trail that runs from Queenston (just outside of Niagara Falls) to Tobermory, Ontario. While I researched the trail, I came across a number of videos of hikers who completed the trail, but showed very little of the trail itself. As a new hiker with no experience, this really didn't help me at all prepare for the hike I was about to embark on.
This channel will explore a multitude of trails strewn across Ontario (and hopefully beyond!) while focusing on the trails themselves, my experiences, challenges, and hints for anyone who has taken up this wonderful thing called hiking and backpacking. I'll also dive into some of the gear I use on the trail with reviews, and mistakes made along the way.
Thanks for watching and hope to see you out there!

Ontario’s Last Log Chute: A Hidden Canadian History
Переглядів 513День тому
Last Fall, Paul and I headed up to Haliburton and the Algonquin Highlands. We found a beautiful trail through the forest that lead us to the last log chute in Ontario at Hawke Lake. It was rainy, wet and the Fall colours were in full force - it was truly amazing. There were many information boards at the side of the chute providing a lot of the local history and of logging in Ontario. Highly su...

Nice tip Trillium! A blade of grass works too! 😊
Yepper!! I remember doing that in me younger years too!
Cool, kinda hold it like you would do a loon call
🍁🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦🍁
I do something similar with a thick blade of grass, drives my friend's dog wild.
Yes! I remember doing that too!
Who built it millions of years ago.
The earth is only approximately 10 thousand years old.
Dinosaurs roamed the Earth up to 66 Million years ago. Jurassic period for example was 200-145 Million years ago
We live there for 10 years it's 1 beautiful blessing place you feel all lord bless place ❤
Gorgeous part of the Bruce! ❤
One of my favorites for sure! I don't want to check how many pictures I took in that section!
@TrilliumHikes lol of all the sections I took the least photos through Pennisula, too busy watching my step! Guess I have to go back again!! Happy Hiking ✌️
@lexushikes oh no, go back to re-hike the Bruce? Say it ain't so! 😁😜😁
@TrilliumHikes 😆
I don't have to imagine, simply remember. Look forward to a second trip. The Forge and its proprietors form the bedrock of the community, at least that was my perception.
It was a remarkable place and we were lucky to have seen live my music our 2nd night there. Definitely needs a return trip - maybe stay in one of the Wee Hooses this time
The last wooden log chute is a piece of Ontario history and the rain seems appropriate. Thanks!
That’s were they segregated the people with Black Death.
Definitely charming! ❤
I doubt it will last much longer… wood and water doesn’t really mix well over time
Very true - even when we were there, there were signs of damage. Just a matter of whether they will continue the upkeep to preserve it.
Hoisting a beer for log chutes 🍻
I hope you enjoyed your free pint when you arrived.
Nah, I think they stopped doing that some time ago...didn't stop me from enjoying pints tho 😁
Great spot 👌
Thank you
You're welcome!
Are you lost 😢😢
Not quite... but it was a while ago when I first hiked through
Middle-earth? Loved those spots!
Right?!?!
Wood Thrush. Lol
Thank you!
Sydenham? Loved those spots!
Yes indeed!!
В такую погоду я с вами !
The trail is all gold, but you can't deny the magic of the Pennisula!
100%!!
Really love channels like this, just in the wild, and just entertaining. You should keep going, you’ll get somewhere.
Thanks so much!! Lots of options on the bucket list, will see where things take us
Que lugar lindo e incrivel! obrigado por esse video e pelas legendas em português
De nada! Obrigado por assistir!
Where are you man??
Just outside Inverie, Scotland on Loch Nevis
lol I walked there one time and went right instead of left lol I ended up leaving cuz there wasn’t much trail that way…going back lol
Ha! Easy to do! There is a path that doubles back and leads to the bottom of the tower. If you keep going, you'll see that remnants of an old bucket line as well
That looks amazing!
It really was!!
🎉 congratulations
Thank you!!
Your poor feet! At least I know the future and you do recover rather nicely!!😮I’m so enjoying the reels. Must learn… no captions or else I’m reading them instead of enjoying the scenery. Keep them coming! Love, Mom xxx 😊❤❤❤
Beautiful
What state
This is in Ontario, Canada
@@TrilliumHikes wow
Wonderful video ❤
Thank you!
Thank you for taking us on this trip. Very beautiful part of Scotland.
Thanks for watching!!!
A'Chuil does not have an E on the end. Been there done that don't remember any bogs. This is normal in Scotland. What did you expect?
Will make that edit in any next videos thanks. First visit to Scotland and bogs so wasn't entirely sure what to expect. This would be the first that I couldn't necessarily trust what I see.
Bless, soft yank.
Do you know if the family is around still today? My surname is McNeill and i remember my grandfather saying that all McNeills spelt with two "L"s we're related quite closely
According to Wikipedia, the couple's only son died unwed and without children. Hester and Alexander McNeil were from Ireland and settled outside Wiarton.
@@TrilliumHikes Aw okay so their name was actually spelt with just one L? McNeil not McNeill?
@CallemJayNZ No, with 2 l's
I thinknthe one website that I was reading from spelled the name with one "l" but it was in fact McNeill
You should see Iceland if you like this kind of environment
It's on my bucket list!
😊
Never saw this one! 😅You always make the dialogue funny but educational! Another place I was younger and could see this area myself! More reels please!! ❤❤❤
Oh, there's more coming! Thanks Mom 😁
What brand of tent are you using?
I have been using the 3F UL LanShan 2 Pro. The Pro version is single walled and has a slightly larger footprint. I have a review of this tent in my gear videos ua-cam.com/video/6yBhQ6b9GEM/v-deo.htmlsi=7wqOIQJHUETrzuqe Happy to answer any questions!
What is a bothy?
A bothy is essentially an old farmhouse - the ones we came across are mostly stone and mortar with a new roof. These bothies are maintained by volunteers of the bothy association and can be found throughout the Scottish Highlands. There was one that is not too far from Inverie that needs to be reserved but the 2 that we stayed at were free to use. First come, first served. There was a lot of space outside the bothies as well for tents should there be no room inside. We captured the bothy outside Glenfinnan on Part 3 of this series and another coming up this Sunday I think.
More can be found on the Mountain Bothy Association. There are also estate bothys but that's a more closed circle of knowledge.I am an MBA volunteer used bothies for 30 years
It was a new experience for Paul and I and we really enjoyed having a roof over our heads after hiking. Thank you for your volunteering to make this a possibility!!
They are the rarest invertebrates in Scotland, are you sure it wasnt a slug 😂
Once we got into Inverie and met some other people we were informed they were slugs lol
Great
❤❤❤
Hello, it would be great if you could go into the clouds above the mountain and take a video.
More mist than cloud up that way but yea, would be a great scene
Wow what we would do without duct tape!😉
Very good question!!
