Taeyeon’s voice is more powerful, but it doesn’t feel particularly memorable to me. I had to listen to many of her songs to recognize it. IU on the other hand, stands out immediately; I can recognize her unique voice after just one song. That's why she debuted as a solo singer in the beginning.

From this video I found that some of IU fans are butthurt af, and making shady comments just because Taeyeon sings 10 times better than their fave, even IU's own song friday. Yeah, let it sink, that's how big the gap of vocal prowess between Taeyeon and your fave. I am not even hardcore fan of Taeyeon but some of IU fans comments putting down Taeyeon are embarrassing af.

I love both of them and might be biased because I am a SONE. They both have different techniques and are good vocalists, but damn Taengoo unnie hits differently when she sings love songs. You will feel the pain when she sings it, even without the subtitles. And IU conveys most of her feelings through writing. One is a writer the other one is a storyteller.

Taeyeon has a strength in her voice. IU pours her heart in her voice. That's the difference. I can listen to Taeyeon's strong vocals while singing but wont feel much, but IU's songs are heartwarming it leaves an impression in your memory.

I'm an IU fan, but I admit Taeyon's vocal powers, I hope Taeyon fans can also do the same for the uniqueness of IU's vocals

Unique IU

IU chooses to sing with an airy manner. It makes for an ethereal voice, very intimate. One falls in love with it and I think its very popular. I think she's very versatile with this manner of singing too which suggests to me that she's much more technically proficient that people give her credit for. I mean - her style is so commercially successful, one would expect others to adopt this style if they across different genres if they could.

Tbh, I know tae yeon first instead of IU but I never enter snsd or taeyeon’s fandom. Instead I join UAENA. I don’t usually comment and as UAENA, I don’t need to explain why IU is no.1 soloist because we all know why she is one, but I just read and see a lot of the comparisson between this two in my fyp. Let me make it clear. Taeyeon is an amazing singer and I agree with most of the comment that she can cover a lot of genre. But the problem with Taeyeon is that she has a very strong and powerful voice. So she is not suitable in singing soft song or song that needs breathing technique to make the song such as “I miss you” , “friday”, and “can you hear me” that can be seen in this video. Taeyeon singing “I miss you” is not bringing the feel of the song to the max because at certain part of the song, you need to soften your voice and use breathing technique to bring out the feel of the song, and taeyeon can’t do it because her voice is powerful. She softens it but far from enough. For “friday”, this song needs to be playful and soft voice in certain important part. To be playful in this song, you need to pronounce the word playfully added with playful tone at certain part of the song whcih u can see when IU singing this song. While for Taeyeon, her pronounciation and tone at that certain playful part can’t be seen. In fact, the pronounciation and tone mostly just flat and not playful at all. For “I can hear you”, this songs need to be desperate in certain part to make the feels of the song goes well with the lyric and again you can clearly see the difference between taeyeon and iu singing the song. Taeyeon lacks the ability to recognize and shine up the important part of the song that is needed in order to deliver the true feeling of the lyric through music. Taeyeon needs to keep singing song like “fine” because her voice is so powerful and she can hit high notes really well. To be blunt, the difference between IU and Taeyeon is clear. Taeyeon is the type that will shine the most when singing powerful song and high notes that can impress people. Even people that don’t understand music will be impressed by Taeyeon because it is not that common to see an artist with poweful voice and capable of singing high notes. While on the other hand, IU is a singer that touch people heart by using breathing technique, unique tone in her singing in order to deliver the message of lyric, and song. This is the reason why IU is no.1 soloist singer. She understand very clearly what the song about and try her best to convey the feelings through her singing. When u hear Taeyeon sings, u will be like “wowwwww” but when IU sings, u will be like “ahhhh that is wonderful”. So if people are debating who is better between IU and Taeyeon, I would say they have different qualities. But in order to be at the top and be no.1 soloist in Korea, just amazing voice are not enough and in that aspect I will say IU is the winner. No hate towards Taeyeon here. Just a honest opinion about both of them. I myself is a fans of “fine” haha. She sounds amazing in the live wowwwww.

Taeyeon is good but IU voice really soft, while listening to IU vocal will feel peaceful. Taeyeon singing with technique but IU singing like talking a story with you. Taeyeon for performance or listen during ur party night with friends. IU voice for you to listen a music quietly in deep night. IU for me
