Clip taken from ABC TV's "Gruen Nation" segment "How do you Make...". Clip shows an Australian Country Party ad - presumably used in cinemas for E.V.B Sampson and his family. All I'll say is... they all looked very uncomfortable!

Wow - how things change! Fascinating to locate Short St (0:59) and see how it's developed over sixty years or so - www.google.com.au/maps/@-34.7231105,138.6693702,3a,75y,156.57h,79.41t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sWCi4FWz1RG5yiN37iS1mAA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
Thank you SO much for working out where that was shot, I'd wondered where it was. It hasn't changed a bit <grin>. Cheers.
All you need is the dystopian soylent green factory and you are set.
We had a James Hardie asbestos factory, does that count?
Quite shocking to see how badly it went, would be interesting to show a like for like video of it now. My grandparents came from England with these hopes and dreams. How many of those factories are still there?
its all but all gone, even holdens has announced its shutting and that was the one jewel that was meant to make this community work. sadly the golbalists took over and fucked it all.
Brought back the memories growing up, I am an old Elizabeth Boy ..... 1959 - 1977. Started at Elizabeth East, went to Elizabeth East Infant School. Then we moved to Elizabeth Fields - Coventry Road in 1969, this was new area Coventry Road was still a dirt road, not many houses around at the time. As a kid made it a place for heaps of exploring, I went to Elizabeth Field Primary School then onto Smithfield Plains High School. Until 1977 when I then enlisted into the ARMY .... My Dad worked at the Elizabeth Shopping Centre as a cleaner, my Mum was a civilian worker at the Edinburgh RAAF base in the Officers and Sgt's mess.
Thanks for sharing that info Colin. My Mum worked at 'Bentons Fruit and Veg' at the Centre in the '70s, so she may well have met or known your Dad. And your Mum might have known my friend's Dad, Jock Logan, who (as I recall) was involved with the Sgt's Mess at Edinburgh way back when.
wow this place looked really good... whta the hell went wrong?
Lima Declaration reduced manufacturing
globalism
would love to see a current documentary of Elizabeth, done in this style
Now that I'd like to see
A place to grow...? What exactly?
Thanks for posting the video. Very interesting, not just for the footage of Elizabeth but also other locations in South Australia. One minor point though. Your title at the beginning of the video states "1960". This would not be correct, as the red Holden sedan which the man drives is in fact an EK model, released on May 2nd, 1961.
+mymonaro2008 Very well spotted! That title was placed there by ABC tv when they used this film on a 'Four Corners' episode a few years ago, so we're stuck with it I'm afraid.
Okay, thanks for the reply Steven. We will not tell anyone. it's our secret.
WE have really messed up, haven't WE?......All we needed, and nothing we wanted. Only if we knew what was ahead. (please ignore my comment, if over the age of 50).......
+Navy XA As a kid living there in the late 60s/early 70s it was a great place to grow up. But then I moved away and had no real idea how much it had changed... until I visited 30 years later. So sad to see.
It can only get better from here,....It's getting there, slowly.............. Happy New Year...
Pity the govt let it go to ruins. Poor govt policies.
Great footage. Thanks for putting up. Such stuffy pompous old days.
We have gone backwards not forwards. This was the dream and now look what has happened. I lived there for 30 years things have turned very bad for the people of Elizabeth because of geo political decisions which haven't helped ordinary people.
Will always be my home, but in a better time
What the bloody hell has happened?...I remember when Mum and Dad first shifted to the West back in 1968..was such a great place to live...all the homes were so well kept..some had some absolutely stunning gardens..everyone was so friendly to one another..plenty of jobs for all that wanted them...now,like the rest of the country it seems like it's just gone down the toilet...and I dont like it...I want the Australia I know and love back again.
the answer to what went wrong is globalists and the attempted destruction of the nation state.
"General motors holdens is pretty big business up this way now." Depressing lol.
I agree..so sad and depressing to see one of this countries biggest manufacturer's and employers closing down in a couple of years time..spent 10 yrs working at the Elizabeth plant from '87 to '97..probably the best 10 yrs of my working career..like any place it wasn't perfect but I loved going to work there everyday..progress is good but it can be a double edged sword that creates a terrible wound that leaves an awful scar :-(
Sheryl Ashcroft watch this they show ainside a house like yours :)
I never had the pleasure of meeting Mr Marsden as he was long gone by the time I worked there around 1999-2001. However, my good friends Mr Font and Ms Braines still hold him in the *highest* regard! Cheers, Steven.
I spend 6 great years working here for Bill Marsden. From 1976 - 82 I was a producer/director. Great days. We lived just around the corner in Wilks Avenue.
