Line6 Helix Sound test after fix
This Helix came in with several issues: faulty footswitches, randomly the system will freeze itself and a bent encoder.
Lets begin with the easy part, the bent encoder caused by a bump or a kick.
Footswitches were working really bad thanks to a faulty controller and cherry on the cake the unit wasfreezing itself due to a power rail components fail(be sure where your gear is plugged in).
The pedalboard is ready to rock again.

      @mikestormm 5 днів тому

      Hi, being honest the amp in the video was a real mess, due to several attempts of modding/fixing by other people. Speaking of your problem, if hum is not tube related(maybe a faulty tube) and you get hum noise as soon as you power on the amp, and no matter if the volume/s are at zero or maxed out, it could be some bad caps in the filtering section of the power supply. Please if you have never worked on hi voltage tube equipment, or you are not sure where putting hands, bring it to a tech, due to high voltage involved and a crowded pcb/chassis its easy to put yourself in danger. Tube equipments are not a joke to work with. Please be safe

    sounds pretty dynamic, it may be the kind of amp that I'm looking for. Di you achieve the changes between distorted and clean just through volume knobs on guitar?

    • @mikestormm
      @mikestormm Місяць тому

      Hi Paolo, the amp sounds really nice. Clean ch(ch A) is very dinamic, chimy but has a nice bottom. Overdrive ch (ch B) is ok, doesnt have to me the wow factor, but its honest. Each channel has its own volume control so you can set to your liking, and each ch has its own reverb control too. The one in the video has 4x el84 as power tubes and a 15 inch speaker. The only downside of this amp is the cabinet, its made out of mdf and its heavy as a rock. If you find a good deal but has the cabinet not in great condition, take it and make a new cab out of plywood. You will get an overall light amp.

    Last year I played a G&L ASAT Tele through a red knobbed Ultimate Chorus in Guitar Center's used room. I didn't explore any of its built-in effects but the clean channel did the most for my ears. What guitar are you playing?

    • @mikestormm
      @mikestormm 2 місяці тому

      Clean ch is very usefull, actually the only effects available are two, a spring reverb coming out from a small 2 springs tank and a stereo chorus, very nice sounding. Unfortunatelly the recording doesnt pay justice on how much the sound was deep and full with the chorus engaged. The guitar used in the video is a Olp musicman licensed, Lukather model.

Un paio di regolatori erano passati a miglior vita. Poi encoder e interruttori e' il pane quotidiano per i line6 pod 2.0, xt, e le versioni a pedaliera dei suddetti. • @mikestormm
      @mikestormm 4 місяці тому

      Hi Chris, if I recall it right, the unit came in for repair with a 18v DC, and the gt6 with a dc powersupply wont work. Customer stated that he was using that psu as long as he remember. Maybe he was wrong! Usually customers dont tell everything. I allways recomend using the right power supply. In this pedalboard, and guessing based on what was broken, they have tried differents psu, maybe also some inverted polarity ones(very usual here). If I remember right the unit had burnt the dc dc converter for the 3.3v rail, a couple of transistors that regulates the 9v dual rails(+/-9v) and the 7805 ic(voltage regulator) was suspicious. As long as i know, based on gt6 that came in along the years, the pcb used is the same, I am sure they had some revisions along the years but nothing extraordinary. If you like it, follow us on Instagram at mad_customelectronics. Hope it helps

      At the time Fender was trying to offer to the players a "boosted" or "overdriven" option, or at least that was the idea. So as you can see in the schematics, they took part of the signal that drives the reverb and thought it will overdrive... In reality it does very little, but very very little. Hope it helps

At the beginning of this clip you have it on the Normal channel and I see you have the bass and treble at noon and the gain and volume set to a nice clean tone with a bright and crisp sound. My amp would sound like complete mud if I had it on those settings. On either channel I have it on I need to have the treble set on maximum and it still sounds way too dark and muddy. Very frustrating. Anyway, your amp sounds terrific!!

    I've owned a T100C for about 20 years now and have found it to be a great amp...versatile, plenty of power, great tone, etc. I like the Red channel but LOVE the clean channel on this amp. Takes pedals very well, too. I rarely push the OD channel past around 6 or 7, and usually run the treble and middle on that channel at 4 with the bass a little higher. I swapped the stock 100 watter with an 85 watt Celestion that sounds a lot better. Even Mike Soldano thought the stock speaker did not do the amp justice...and I had to agree. These amps do not have a hell of a 'demo' clips out there, especially ones that have NOT been modded, one way or another. Thanks for this one, Michele!

      Thanks Mark! This was more a rescue than a fix. Owner brought in just for a reverb issue(not working) but clean ch wasnt that good at all and drive ch was sounding like a fuzz. Opening it, everything was clear, a previous bad attempt of a mod, many burnt wires (soldering iron bite). The only chanse was to bring it stock... so I did it. Unfortunatelly I got only the chassis to work on, and the speaker is from a Carvin acoustic amp, nice but not that great. At the end the amp sounds right, drive is ok and reverb works fine. Thanks again Michele

      But i see the choke mod is still on, in fact that was a huge NESSECARY mod. Try to put the master volume low with a stock model: the sound would still reach the poweramp over powersupply rail i did the mod on two T100's i owned, it makes the sound soooo much better (just compare the schematics of these amps with all the legendary amps, decoupling the preamp power from the powerstage is very much needed)

      Yes, ch2 has a sligtly different eq, as I noticed while testing, perfect for a great crunch tone and a mild lead, but ch3 has tons of gain. Consider that the videos sound come from a phone, and just guitar straight into amp and it was great!

      Hi Steve! You are right, this amps(blackface era) have its own character, and if you like it, its a dream amp. Unfortunatelly my recordings are not that great, and dont capture all the sound that the amp makes in the room. Just spoke with the amp owner after he got it back, and he is enjoying it, stating:"Amp now got the double of power output than before". If you are lucky finding and getting one in good conditions my suggestion is make it reliable, replace filter caps if originals are still in, some parts needs to be changed to play it safer and give another 60 years of use. If you have any questions or doubts, feel free to follow and contact me on instagram @mad_customelectronics.

      @@mikestormm if you play a lot of places (like me) that have no sound tech, unmiked amps and drums etc., those 40 watt Fenders are so perfect. I have a '67 Princeton and a 5E3 replica and they sound awesome but they just don't have the volume or head room for most gigs. And I think you capture the character of the amp with the recording. You can spend all day miking an amp. Who has the time for that? Thanks for the video!

But if it will happend again I think I have a couple of solutions on hand: 67 Dual Showman and a Marshall JVM 410 combo, powerfull anough to tear down some walls.

    "Amp came in with randomly intermitting sound" What was the problem ? Mine has this symptom...

    • @mikestormm
      @mikestormm Рік тому

      Hi Nono Laporte, the amp in the video had several issues, old power tubes, old and bad filter caps and others issues here and there. If you experience drop in volume like a random tremolo effect, but after a while, the amp works again the cause may be old power tubes, in this case a matched quad of el84. If when the amp seems to work fine you hear a bit of hum... its time to change filter caps(I suggest to visit your local amp tech, there is high voltages involved and its risky if you dont know what to do). If, and this is the lucky issue, you have no hum when the amp works, no "tremolo like" effect, more like a rapid drop in volume, try to connect at the back panel, send and return with an instrument patch cable(like the one you use to connect individual guitar effects pedal), If doing so you experience no more randomly intermitting sound, replace those 2 jacks. If you have any more questions, feel free to contact me via Instagram @mad_customelectronics. Hope it helps

      Vagamente, anche se gli ampli a transistor della stessa epoca viaggiano piu o meno sulle stesse sonorita'. L'ampli e' abbastanza versatile, il clean e' onesto, prende bene i pedali, il drive non e' proprio malvagio, magari tenendolo di gain basso e boostandolo con un ts9 migliora un po. Considera che e' un ampli da battaglia e relativamente economico.
