I have an Idea on CP 1246.
Great video!
@@leep5113 thank you!
I remember seeing them come into Binghamton as a kid
Thank you!!
Is that the Canadian #1?
Yes, northbound out of Toronto
im woundering if you still make videos
Afraid not. Moved to California now. Those were golden years!
Awesome Clip
I bet those cars got sold to VIA and still run on "The Canadian". I have a feeling that old rolling stock might still be rolling.
60 years later
1246 needs to move to Spencer North Carolina
50 years ago today
90s was truly a great time American steam railroading
this broke my heart
Cool
these tracks are now Q&G subdivision lachute
This line ran north from Thurso and no longer exists
This line ran north from Thurso and no longer exists
@@etozorak58 i mean canadian pacific subdivision lachute not the tnvr tracks
@@etozorak58 because it connected to cp subdivision lachute witch is now Q&G subdivision lachute
@@etozorak58 i have also been to the thurso power plant and saw a Q&G train
My father worked on that line. Would you have any more videos to share?
Wish i did, but that’s all I have…
Those were my dad’s films.
great video of cp rail and via i love the music,
These 2 work well together. Kinda sad its unlikely to happen again in future
No French Lick...
Did everyone want to restore the locomotives.
Never happen she's to far gone what a shame
7:13 Norman Cole I think was at the throttle those years
The Gettysburg Railroad is the only tourist railroad in this film that is no longer servicing anymore, due a backdraft explosion incident of Canadian Pacific 1278 (A 4-6-2 “Pacific” built by Canadian Locomotive Company in April 1948) that caused it to be moved at the Age of Steam Roundhouse in Sugarcreek, Ohio on display today. Most of these excursion steam locomotives that were from Canada are now either being restored back to operation or put on static display.
Thank You Etienne! I enjoyed this journey back in time, I do not think any of what We saw in this video is left it is all gone Sad this is, Cheers!!! just the same from Rick Armstrong Aurora Ontario
Do you have any footage of the CN Cornwall sub?
Sorry. None at all.
@@etozorak58 :(
@@etozorak58 do you know anyone that has any?
Sorry. I don’t
@@etozorak58 well... that sucks
“The chimney for the Ottawa Union Station power and heating plant was demolished on Tuesday, 23 May 1967, according to page 1 of that day’s Ottawa Citizen. It took a bit of doing to get it to come down.” Two sets of blasts.
It was a school day for me, but my dad worked close to that area on Wilbrod and stepped out to capture this.
Note locomotive CPR 1201 that served faithfully on many steam excursions around the Ottawa area and then regular runs to Wakefield until it was replaced by a Swedish locomotive and carriages. Sadly Chelsea Town has ripped up its part of the tracks making excursions up the Gatineau River impossible.
Great images! Was it indeed 1966 or more likely early 1967 and then spring/summer 1967 for the Ottawa West images?
Not quite sure. I was about 8 years old when our family went there. My dad took the film. Thanks!

This was a case we’re Brian Mulroney distoryed the passenger Rail in this country also Nfld Railway aswell . Sad
Fantastic video brings back memories 👍🏻 Thxs Robin out
When we originally restored it, that 12"x14" inch oak beam across the front was hard to find but we found one in Pickering. The Hardest job on that was needle gunning the rust from the inside of the tender but my kid brother Ric, RIP, was about 12 and did A FINE JOB. My two sisters Lynda and Susan, RIP, painted the wheels white for the big show day when she steamed out of John St round house for the 1st time. I did the most work as I got on full time and worked the 4-12 shift for a year solid. It was okay work and I got $10.00 an hour which was big money in 1970. It was a good job but I sure got dirty and ate a lot of rust dust. 50 years ago Canada was a good place with a good healthcare system but sad to say, it is all gone now. Good bye Canada, it was nice to know yah...😪 PS_ I should give some credit to my father, Johnny Clarke ,RIP, who was the afternoon shift foreman who did his own job and supervised me doing mine. There is a memorial plaque for him that was out by the turntable but I hear they moved it inside now. He was the one who swung the deal with VP Crump to let us restore it in John Street Roundhouse. Life goes on but it is not nearly so good anymore..
👍🏻 my favourite train ever .great video
Fantastic video bring them back 👍🏻
I rode in 734's cab on June 22, 2013. 734 has used many different whistles: Western Maryland Hancock Longbell 3 Chime Whistle Illinois Central Railroad Steamboat Whistle Baltimore and Ohio 6 inch 3 chime Starr Brass Desert Shortbell 5 chime (Chinese) Reading 6 chime Baltimore and Ohio 6 chime Southern Pacific 6 chime Having seen this video, it's known that steam engines require alot of maitnence. With the issue that was present, one of the diesels was there to help assist. They were really pushing it up to notch 8 full power to Frostburg. In early days on the Western Maryland Railway, one could see long freights and helpers at the back end.
The closing of Ottawa’s downtown station seems to have been quite short sighted in retrospect. At least the building was mostly preserved.
I rode the Turbo from Montreal to Toronto in the 80’s when it was operated by Via. The combination of an aircraft sized washroom and less than perfect track was….interesting. Thanks for posting these great memories!
Nice work. I was on one of 6218’s last excursions Montreal to Ottawa and return. I wish I had brought a camera!
Thank you. It was my dad’s camera work.
I just want to say thank you for sharing this amazing footage. It has been almost a decade since rail traffic in Mattawa has slowed down due to the rail line from Mattawa to Arnprior being torn up because of the economic decline in the Ottawa Valley. Mattawa is one of the best places for railfanning, but the only trains are coming across the Ottawa River from Quebec.
You are more than welcome. Ive been going there since the 60s.
Fantastic I just love it 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hull n'est pas Ottawa tabarnak. This train departs from Hull not Ottawa Fuck !

I have a bunch of CP O scales too! Thanks
I like the music and its realy cool
Best 611 whistle, hands down
I understand recently, that there's a "move a-foot" to bring 6218 back to life. The short video was here on UA-cam, saw saw it out of the corner of my eye, (not paying too much attention to it). But since I'm soon to be a Power-Ball lottery winner in the near future, (LOL), I'll gladly donate 1.5-2M on her restoration, (GTW 4070 comes first though). There are conditions...1st, lose the elephant ears, 2nd, take the EXTREME white-wall tire paint off her rims and 3rd, CN allows her to, (again), run on the Holly sub. in Mich. with me at the throttle. God!!! "ain't" dreaming fun?
