Coquihalla Highway. Beautiful Scenic Views in summer but dangerous driving in winter.
Coquihalla Highway is an extreme freeway located in British Columbia, between Hope and Kamloops. Known as the Highway 5, the Coquihalla Highway is a 186 km freeway, varying between four and six lanes with s speed limit of 120 km/h or 75mph for most of its length.
The road is named after Coquihalla Rover, and it climbs up the Coquihalla Pass, a mountain pass at an elevation of 1,249m or 4,097 ft above sea level.
Although it is a modern highway, most truckers avoid this route due to extra gasoline and expense that the steep inclines create. The highway is very steep at both ends.
Winter driving here is indeed dangerous, but that is more a reflection of the high elevation and mountainous terrain rather than the road itself
