Leaving Hookups for Oak Tree Canyon BLM Boondocking - Truck Camper Living
Having the comforts of hookups is certainly a nice luxury, but Teddy and I bought the truck camper to get away from things, get to places we might not normally go, and spend time in the wide-open expanses to enjoy the scenery, solitude and fresh air. So, after a few days on hookups, we move to Oak Tree Canyon BLM in Sonoita, AZ, part of wine country.

In this week’s video, Teddy and I spend a few days experiencing the two extremes of the way we travel -primitive/dispersed camping (off-grid) vs on hookups (on-grid). We’ll show you how we spend our time at each and provide a summary perspective comparing the two at the end. The trip takes 7 days and 6 nights as we stay at Harvest Host locations in Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisiana, Texas (2 locations), and New Mexico before we arrive in Arizona. Floating with the Manatees
Переглядів 1284 роки тому
This is a collection of video clips we took when two manatees spent time under our kayak while at Silver Springs State Park near Ocala, FL on 2/19/2020. They were so close we could have touched them, but didn't dare. We let them do what they wanted and didn't do anything other than video them together. The video starts out with just one, then a second one joined later. It was a very special exp...

A regular visitor to our Myakka Park State Park site

This little guy would visit us every day between 5-6pm. At first, we'd find him in the weeds behind the RV and very shy. But over time, he must have gotten used to us, because he would venture out into the wide open and allow us to get just a few feet away.

On Sunday, 3/4/18, we decided to do something different and visit the NMRA Ford Nationals at Bradenton Motorsports Park. We had a great time. Here's just a small sample of what we had the opportunity to enjoy.

Your so right Chris what a good life it is.
Another great video Chris. I am really enjoying these. Gives a great flavor of the places you stay.
Thx Stan. Glad u r enjoying them.
AAround 21:10 Our problem is water. Surely in the 70 days you referenced you had to dump your gray and black tanks.
That was 17 days. If I had to, I could stretch it 3 weeks if I HAD to. Thx for watching and the comments.
Nice
Love the videos and the walks you share along with the wineries and parks you visit.
Glad to see the video, keep it up
Lola and I just finished the video and enjoyed your commentary. Yall are having to much fun for sure ole boy. Keep on enjoying and we will chat later. Lola is headed to NC account her oldest sons wife lost her Ma. I am staying with Star in Miami. Until next time.

Hey Chris! These are fantastic! Soooo beautiful and really enjoyed watching you and Teddy on your adventures!!!
Thx Merv. You are too kinda. I've got a lot of room for improvement, but I got a lot of time too. It's very relaxing here.
Great job Chris. Like you never left us here.
Thx Rick. Got some things to work on.
Hey Chris, I always enjoy your detailed blogs. It's cool that you started a video. We stayed at that Landry Vineyard years ago in our van. Do they still run the laser lights at night to scare away birds?
Not sure. They've never done it when I've been there. Maybe nothing on the vines at the time to worry about. See you at DT soon. Teddy and I are on our way there for our usually holiday month long stay.
Good Job ole friend. Maybe I can get you to educate me on how to. Happy Trail Teddy and Chris from Star Lola and I.
Anything I can do to help. Hope all is well. We'll talk soon. We are moving a few times over the next few days. TTUL
Great start Chris. I hope you continue. I’m looking forward to experiencing some of the beautiful places you go through your videos and commentary. It’s also nice to see you again.
Thx Stan. Appreciate the support. Hope all is well. Drop me an email and catch me up to date on your RV travels and plans.
Love it. Well done Chris and Teddy!!
Thx Cathy. It's a lot of work especially with the blog, but I've enjoyed it so far.
Love the drone footage and the winery visits
Top notch video. Love it and keep doing it
You are too kind Mark. We'll keep trying to take it up a notch. Hope all is well.
Just wondering why your calipers were installed facing each other? The install procedure for the Hydra Star disc brakes shows both facing the rear of the trailer. Is the brand of brakes you installed different? Just wondering if I need to change mine around.
Performance Trailer Braking did the install. Given they've done hundreds of them, including many while I was at the rally, I assumed they knew what they were doing. They were Titan brakes. I also removed the calipers myself to lube the bearings and replace the seals once. I had no issues or saw anything that would suggest the brakes were not installed properly. And they worked fantastics for the 3 additional years I had that unit. Since then, I've had no calls from the new owner with any problems or questions. Hope this helps.
Been dreaming about this update on our GD 375RES 2017. What might I expect to pay with these folks doing the install?
Tom, I paid $5449 in August 2018 at the GD Rally in Elkhart, IN. That price included a $200-$300 discount for having it done at the rally. That prices was for everything you see in the video, including labor. Hope that helps. Chris
@@ourtimetorv3151 Thanks for sharing the price. Now I know what to plan on. Not likely we'll get a discount, as the GD rally isn't in our current plans of travel. :)
@@ourtimetorv3151 Seems like a great deal. Thoughts after a year of the upgrade?
@@MightyBobo Haven't put the whole setup to the test yet as much of the suspension upgrades were for some planned boondocking. That said, the suspension no longer flattens out any more, so that's good. As for the tires that were upgraded prior to this video, 100% satisfied going from E to G Load Ratings. The brakes are GREAT!!! The stopping power is much more improved for those situations when people jump in front of us. Overall, I have no regrets and sleep a lot easier. Great investment. Good luck.
@@ourtimetorv3151 The brakes were my actual concern. But it seems that if you're going to upgrade the brakes, you may as well do the whole she-bang in the process.
Nice install, nice job explaining the process.
Enjoyable location and Manatees are amazing.
Beautiful!
