Apple & Maple smoked salmon

Scottish salmon marinated in Ontario peach habanero hot sauce, maple syrup and chopped ginger. Smoked over maple lump charcoal, apple and maple wood chips then seared. Served with Caesar salad, باقالی پلو (persian dill rice with fava beans) and lightly salted fries.

QRP is 5 W or less. In the olde daze, that was Input power as Output was hard to measure. So, today, it is output power, but is still a gain as 5W input with tubes or older transistors was ~3 W output. Bin thar, dun thet. QRP with tubes usually required a big storage battery and a vibra-pack for the B+, and you had to power the receiver, too. Many amps for all those filaments!! Not convenient or handy! But we still did it. I portaged my 80# Grumman, too, but now have a 36# Graphite Solo. And an FT-817ND. Called Progress, I thimque, anyways... 72, Jerry wa2omu

I say QRP is 5w or under. Some OM I know say QRP is under 100w, so it's up to you to decide.

Great ideo Martin. For some strange reason "Victoria" seems to work better than "Victor" for you as a phonetic for the letter "V". I am not sure why but something to keep in mind for future outings ;-) I am glad I dropped by to say Hi ! . . de VE3WMB (I guess I am logged in with the new OV-QRP Gmail account in this browser so I am sort of incognito ;-0 )

Nice day. Nice setups. Nice contacts, with good sigs. I always took my 817 & ND later on my canoe trips, mostly for E coms (hello ecars? Send rescue helicopters with hot pizza and cold drinks, we forgot the matches...). I carried a 40 M dipole for NVIS, and 25' of RG-58. I did listen some but didnt get on much as my 'power pack' was 8 lithium AA's inside, and there was no cell coverage, so I kept them near full for any emergencies. Yes, I have used them portable and they run for a good couple of hours (no voltage droop). 72, 73, Jerry, wa2omu
Lol now that is an emergency situation lol 🤣 I love the 817, I have never owned one but I have enjoyed using others. Yes it is great to have a shortwave radio on back country trips. I love the Alexloop, very easy to setup. My ultimate back country antenna though is an 88ft EDZ, 80m - 10m and great performance on 20m.

Fantastic video. We all know about the "salt water amplifier" effect when we operate by ocean and salt lake borders. But I am always impressed by the results that I always have on non salt waters by lakes and rivers. I wish you a lot of fun and many QRP DXs.

I bought that sound track as I was composing the video of my POTA activation, trying to get warmed up in the bath. It was numbingly cold in that wind off the lake. 🥶 so maybe brain freeze? 😆 felt appropriate... I really enjoyed that activation with Bob VA3QV, we used to play radio in the parks around Ottawa as the Ottawa Valley Mobile Radio Club. ARDF, Stateline ops, etc. Good times 😁

You were 5x5 into QC. Nice QRP signal! I was running 10W with SSB (QRP?) When you answered my CQ POTA call. I dropped the power to 5W after the 1st exchange but it was tough at 2 x 5W 😁

Likewise! Your 1W signal was booming into Ontario. Do you have a blog? Would love to know more about your antenna setup! We could have tried to dial the power down to 1W for a 2 x 1W contact, I bet it would have worked on a clear frequency. Next time... I have had some good adventures running 1W from an Elecraft KX1 on a clip board with pedestrian mobile antennas on HF bands... 😁
@@va3sie I'm using a Maxcon ofc 10m-160m pointing east and west.I contacted your friend on a xiegu g90 1 watt.I think we could have made contact on 1 watt also.

@@va3sie LCBO is carrying a few different Pumpkin Ales. I recommend the Lake of Bays and the Great Lakes Brewery offerings. Pumpkin Ale is quite polarizing, either you love it or you hate it. I am generally not a big fan of flavoured beer/ales but I make an exception in the fall as I like Pumpkin and Pumpkin spice. Glad to hear that you had a good time and it is nice to have you back. BTW, if you heard me on 20m I was using my Dayglo-pumpkin Orange (tr) uSDX. It showed up yesterday so I put it on the air on 20m in the afternoon for the shuffle for a bit.
The antenna is the key! Your doublet is really doing the job. I think the auto tuner in my KX3 would tune a wet leaf. I recently had trouble with the volume on my rig. I thought it was a hardware issue and I was about to replace it with a Xeigu 5105. I’m glad I didn’t. The Xeigu is a neat little radio but doesn’t compare to the quality and diversity of the Elecraft KX radios. My volume problem was operator error. 🤨 MikeinMinnesota N0WDM Great video!
