The song pairing with nancy's character at both the beginning and end of the series really drives home something tragic for me. Nancy hasn't changed. The song is about a woman enjoying her time with her lover but stating plainly she won't 'wait for him' to commit. The narrator is trying with everything she has to grow and get to 'the promised land' but she can't put that on hold for someone who can't give her the bare minimum. This ironically reflects the cycle we've found Nancy in throughout the entire show. She finds someone, she uses them to further herself, she discards them when they prove more trouble than they're worth, and she 'moves on' (read: runs away, quite literally). But given the song plays at the beginning and end we see she hasn't 'moved on' at all. She's just dragged everyone else to where she's going, and those who remain, remain, mainly because they're literally family, ending up in a not so dissimilar place to where we saw them in the beginning. It's ironic. the song is sincere, but applied to Nancy's position it's very telling of her own warped inner workings. She's long since accepted who she is yet is constantly trying and failing to change in any substantial way. Even when someone like Andy who-- while he does kind of suck in his own way-- has repeatedly shown his usefulness and willingness to accept Nancy for who she is at the cost of his own health, which she sees clearly. But she hates herself, and more or less resents him for accepting that. So she views herself as merciful by not letting him commit to her because "everyone who I date ends up dead." She's doing him a favor in her head, out of her own warped sense of love, yet continues to use him anyway. And it ends up driving him away too. Jenji Kohan is a terrific screenwriter.
I call such human behavior “pure selfishness.” It resonates with me because it’s so inherently human, and it motivates me to strive to be a better person. I'm 55 years old and never smoked marijuana or taken anything that the pharmacy did not have. But this show and Nurse Jackie fit right into everything after The Sopranos and Breaking Bad.
I just wanna say I first watched this when my homie showed me when we were 15.. watching it now 15 yrs ltr is insane how differently u see the characters/actors cuz of ur own trauma n losses.. R.I.P. Dawson
I just watched the series all the way through for the 2nd or 3rd time and it makes me so nostalgic. I turned 20 in 2003, so it was basically ran all through my 20s and is interspersed with so many memories. It seems like a million years ago, watching the first season with my gf in my cloudy college apartment.
This scene really hits now that my family is all grown up. My family is a pot smoking family. My mom didn’t souls sell pot, but she wasn’t afraid to bend the rules to make ends meet including selling weed time to time. My siblings are all grown one of my brothers has passed away and I feel this is where my mom is now trying to figure out who she is without all of us. When we do get together all of us the few times a year that we do. We end it the same way mom and all the siblings sitting outside smoking a blunt , and thinking about life. Enjoying the moment.
I know right. It was very odd Celia was not around with no explanation. Also didn't like Megan being nasty to Nancy refusing to let her hold her first grandchild. Andy said he doesn't hold grunges so Silas needs to learn that for himself and tell Megan to stop being stubborn with his mother. Can't tell you how many times Nancy gets on some people's last nerves but she deserves to hold and get to know her granddaughter.
NETFLIX PLEASE PUT THIS SHOW IN ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤111
I watched this show with my mom. Start to finish. Alot of mixex emotions watching the ending❤❤

This is how you end a series ❤️
Id love to think the joke in everyones head was "Remember Pilar?" xD (croquet mallet) And how Shane had us all worried about him 😮
Its a great show
God i wish they would bring back this show with a quality script. But I’m afraid the AI generated scripts of today would just ruin this show.
She kinda fucked Andy over , fkin cktease
Now the negan fire scene kinda makes sense
Nancy kept playing The Coqutte with Andy till rhe very end.. what a c.t...
Doug shivers when shame comes outside …
what is "ensding" ?

Sometimes life is just about the mistakes we make no matter how hard we try and what we become out of it
✅👍🏼
What a freaking degenerate show and all you dolts think it's so beautiful for them to sit and do drugs at the ending.
100% yes. Drugs are so good, it’ll ruin your life. Hope this helps! 👍🏼

I really wish they would come out with more seasons now everyone is older I loved this show hate it got cancelled 😭
It’s like you can see Nancy’s entire arc in the way she hits that joint. Something about it just sums up Nancy botwin so perfectly
Always thought the EXACT same thing. Great writing and acting
God I loved this show. I miss it so much. Most tv shows today are crap compared to this.
2024 and still what a beautiful ending
Just rewatched the entire show. Simply brilliant and amazing 🤩
One of the best outros ever. Not a single word spoken and ties up all the insanity beautifully.

The fact that this song is in the 1st episode, and ends the show, is just so perfect

Six Feet Under - Alan Ball, his ending
One of my favorite endings. I love MLP.

Fun Fact the ending song for the pilot episode and this episode is the same
Amazing song for this ending. I love the call back from the pilot… This scene brings a tear to my eyes every time.
I've come from 2023 to say this is a great ending of a show
Yup 😢
It bothers me you NEVER hear what happens to ceilea after that meeting with Doug, her daughter, ex husband and everyone
