I use horseradish leaves in pickles to keep them crisp. It doesn't change the taste but the leaves have tannins to keep the pickes crisp. It works the same as grape leaves

My squash plants mostly kept shooting out male flowers and no female flowers. They just started sending out female flowers a couple weeks ago. But Ive severely neglected my garden. So honestly no judgement from me on a garden full of weeds. Honestly your gardeb if full of life and gorgeous. Mines definantly a hot mess this year. I like to grow lambsquarter, most throw them away as a weed but they have medicinal value. Mine didnt grow this year however. Can you spell the vine you were asking about. Im not sure i am hearing it correctly. I can check my books and see if they show up as medicinal or not. And as madness as you claim your garden is. I wish mine was as nice as yours. We will be updating mine next year.

@@ariofsouthdakota thank you! And yes keep adding year after year. I think your garden is amazing. In 2018 when i was staying in the camper and trying to get the house done... my garden is now where the strawberries and other perminate place have been placed. The 2nd year garden was about 2/3 of an acre - huge for me , but nothing grew.... so i put the orchard there and amended the soil for tree. Trees were growing there before the garden. So it takes time to get everything together. I'm looking forward to more of your videos.

@CharlieB_P2ST Thank you. And I completely understand where youre coming from. Its always a challenge learning new soils. This muddy soil here is certainly a challenge. Your garden is looking like mine did a couple of weeks ago. Spent a good couple days weeding it and can finally see my actual plants. 😂 rabbits keep reaking havoc on my peanut plants in my planter. I put cayennne powder on them, and it keeps them away, but the rain washes it away, and they get right on them again. The best way to tell the difference between male and female flowers on squash/pumpkin plants is if there's a bulge at the bottom of the flower. That bulge is the fruit waiting to be pollinated. The males won't have anything that resembles a bulge on it. I have some peppermint oil spray on the way right now. I'm going to use that on my fencing to make sure the squirrels dont start climbing my fence when the corn starts to mature. So far, with the fencing, they have kept out. But its coming time when things are maturing that they will start wanting to get in. Rosemary oil is great for bugs. I add it to lotions and soaps now before going in the garden, and they stay away from me.

Thank you. I prefer to freeze dry... its last long and the Nutrients are preserved better If it's sealed correctly and a mylar bag. The reason I put a strip in the mylar bag is when I want to pull the air out with a vacuum sealer there has to be have a strip in it In order for the air to escape around it. In order for the air to escape it needs the bumpy surface.

In a pinch, you can also stick a tube of 100% silicone in a 5 gallon bucket and drench a bottom bed sheet in it and completely cover it in the silicone, hang it up to dry and you now have a waterproof bedsheet that doesnt make that crunchy sound. I hope you get things situated with your mother in law soon. But at least it was a good learning experience for you and your family. Hope the rest of the year gets better for you. • @CharlieB_P2ST

Hi Penny, There is really not much sugar in the recipe, and the vinegar is what pickles it and enables you to wb or steam can it. So go for it and add the salt and skip the sugar if you want. Yes, that is true. Plus, these hens are just now coming into their laying years. But, I do love them!

Sweet, Wish I had a freeze Dryer. They are just too costly and I wouldnt get enough use out of them. cool though.

They are costly... but you would be surprised just how much stuff you will freeze dry. I do leftovers for complete meals so they don't go to waste. I'm looking forward to some Thanksgiving leftovers to freeze dry. Thank you.

looks great, and the struggle is real with that corn starch lol. Ive been known to take the immersion blender to it when making gravy when its gotten frustrating. Okay it was my first time cooking Thanksgiving Dinner and I wasn't about to server lumpy gravy 😂

Omg. That's awesome! I normally do not have a problem unless I'm in a hurry. Slow cooking the gravy makes the lumps dissolve.

Yeah, after years of doing it, I got more patience. But my first Thanksgiving dinner I cooked and invited my and my bf at the times family over and was super high strung.

Did you change any temp settings? Or just the standard factory settings? Thanks!

I never changed the factory setting or did any software upgrades... to be honest, I'm scared I've heard nightmare stories about the updates.
