    Damn, I didn't know the HDI was created by the UN. Makes me question its legitimacy and accuracy due to the often erroneous leftist factbank. I'll just have to do my own research to match safety, income, and health per country.

    I’m having difficulty absorbing the idea that this is the first comment here, two weeks post-event. As an accounting professional (retired) I have a particular view of the financial levers available to alter economic behaviour. International reporting standards are an absolute necessity. What gets measured, gets done. Quantification of risk on financial statements is possible and necessary. Institutional & private investors need something to hang their decision hats on. All in all I found this encouraging but nonetheless many governments remain in the grip of fossil and capital momentum & it increasingly appears to me that it may fall to regulators to start pulling levers. Central banks are key but as noted there is clearly a need to drop assumptions as what the world economy will look like on the other side. Central banks have significant power today (including the power of moral suasion not normally recognized) but they may not in the future. Let’s hope they start to use it while they have it.

    2:10 In the case of Latin America the inequality derives from the CIA killing anybody who is elected and tries to create a better more humane society by helping people to develop. But Rich countries like the US and the big guns in Europe want all for themselves (colonialist mindset) and genocide after genocide they keep Latin America, Africa, Middle East, and parts of Asia really poor and underdeveloped so they can look better and have zero competition.

      Warning: Incoming Rant That Nobody Cares About Not true. In the case of latin America, The USA was in the middle of the cold war at the time and obviously wanted no chance of communism on it's continent. (Not saying that justifies it) In the case of Africa, The leaders are corrupt and stupid and the countries are underdeveloped. Also if the Europeans and USA are stifling competition then why is every single country trading more with china than the USA? Even the Europeans are starting to trade more with china than the USA. No they are not stifling competition. They are in-fact currently losing global domination to China. End Of Rant

    • @VelhaGuardaTricolor
      @VelhaGuardaTricolor 3 роки тому

      @@yahnmahn9035 If only had been during the cold war that the USA committed crimes in Latin America. Oh! What a happy continent it would be. The current Latin America situation is 100% due to USA assassinating supreme court judges, buying out politicians, killing others, etc... The 2016 Brazilian Coup d'Etat is just another example of it. But Honduras, Equador, Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay are all going through the same. There is plenty of official literature proving it if you care to look for it. It is not as if the USA is ashamed of it or anything. They brag about it openly. Africa being stupid and corrupt, let me tell you friend. If the leader doesn't accept money from Washington it is killed and replaced with a dictator. Has been like this for over a century. So it is like blaming a little girl for being rape by a bunch of guys. Take care!

    • @yahnmahn9035
      @yahnmahn9035 3 роки тому

      @@VelhaGuardaTricolor Africa is very much stupid and corrupt. Ever heard of African Socialism my dude? Basically every african leader universally decided to monopolize and attempt to develop every single industry all at once. The USA also only puts money in Africa because they basically said : Ok. If you guys reform your democracy and you promise to also be less corrupt. Then we will give you some money to develop your countries. Obviously that went very badly. As they lied and cheated for the American money. Which they then proceeded to steal for themselves. Also at the end of colonialism, most people were not educated. And any people who were educated immediately left Africa. And any people who were educated after de-colonialism also left the country to the USA and Europe where they would be better payed for their craft. The obvious exception to all this, Is Nigeria. Who decided that they didn't want to go through african socialism. And they reaped the benefits of that. They are currently building mass infrastructure programs and even have their own movie industry. Good for them. But they still have a long way to go. Also, The impeachment of Ms. Rousseff was not a coup. They impeached her. She can claim it was a coup, But it was not. It was not an illegal seizure of power. They did not assassinate her, They did not kidnap her, They impeached her. For this reason, I doubt the impeachment was orchestrated by the USA. As Brazilian politics is incredibly divisive and every other political party stands to gain from voting out the head of state.

    Thanks for this. Those of us who want civilization to develop real practices to enable all people to be actively engaged in achieving the full potential of the UDHR 30 Articles ought to be far more assertive in bringing individual activists and informal community groups into the process of achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. This requires discussion and engagement by a wide common front.

    I really appreciate the UN and the World Bank's attention to different definitions of poverty. That being said, I think it would be important for us to have a clear cutoff for what constitutes a country being "developed". What I think might be a good cutoff: - nominal GDP per capita > $10K - all citizens have access to enough food, clean water, clean infrastructure and housing, consistent electricity and energy supply, internet or information, quality healthcare, freedom / exploration, universal education (access to MOOCs and K-12 school counts and suffices) Most countries with $10K+ GDP per capita are developed and most developed countries have $10K+ GDP per capita (nominal). I have found that rampant corruption, uninformed institutions, and poor local leadership are side effects of poverty, rather than true causes that we social entrepreneurs can address. Another thing I don't think that the World Bank gives us here is a clear mechanism of how to solve the poverty problem. - aid relies on rich people and rich countries and there simply isn't the required political will to transfer the several trillion per year needed to bring all people out of poverty - changing corrupt local governments, particularly in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa is not possible - nor is it easy to cause social change. What I think is much easier is to couple educational conditional cash transfer with industry demand for skilled talent in a sustainable, profitable, and scalable for-profit business model. 1. Pay a few majority world people to learn and master a skill (i.e. software development or design). 2. Find a company or person in a developed country who has a need for a person with that particular skill and is open to hiring a remote worker. 3. Make the match and take either a finder’s fee or a cut on the hourly rate. Use these earnings to pay for education of more majority worlders. 4. Majority worlders making $10-20K per year bring a huge amount of money into their communities. The wealth spreads to their day laborers, restaurants, shops, service providers, educational institutions, etc. This is my vision of “Learning Dollars” - to pay people to learn and then profitably connect them with global talent or production demand. I have written about this in detail in a blog post: blog.learningdollars.com/2019/11/17/how-to-end-world-poverty-and-racial-power-imbalance-in-1-generation/ Hope this offers some insight into what can be a clear cutoff to strive for and a solution that we social entrepreneurs can actually act upon. - Gobi Dasu (Stanford BSCS MSCS, Northwestern PhD Student)
