Been playing games with some fantastic communities over the years.
Played all the Sierra City Builders as SenetEr at City Building Heaven / HeavenGames.
Did a lot of Diablo, Star Wars Galaxies and WoW as Sen at the Amazon Basin.
Have mainly been playing Civ 6 lately but jumped back into Pharaoh: A New Era which is a reimagining of my favourite game of all time. Thought I’d start a channel to share what I know and showcase my play style.
It is the most awesome way I can think of to immortalize some of my favourite cities.

Why add two intersections into your block with the bandstand and pavilion? The pavilion provides three types of entertainment, so the other stages are not necessary. A better way of doing it would be to use forced walkers for the entertainment buildings so you don't need an intersection at all.
It’s just a choice and it relates to culture. If you get too efficient with your venues, you end up not having enough active stages to meet your culture requirements. The large block has 3 booths, 2 stages and 1 platform which roughly gives perfect coverage when the stages have active shows. In low culture missions I will often skip the bandstand to make things simpler for the walkers but they manage to get around pretty well, even with the extra intersection
@@molarmauler thats fair, making culture parks is kinda lame
@ yeah 🤣 It’s one of the things I abhor along with unemployment parks which is why I love the large block as it lets me do controlled manor evolution
5:43 is there a hotkey to go to the next trade city after opening a route? I have a hard time clicking on some cities that are close to one another sometimes, and it seems like you just pop right over.
That my friend is the magic of editing 😂 I try to cut out a lot of boring UI navigation with trade screens and warehouses, etc… What I do with trade cities if I’m having trouble clicking on them is to zoom in a bit on the trade map to gain some separation.
@@molarmauler You're the man, thanks!
Congratulations. That was a beautiful city layout; well-planned and executed. As I watched this, I realized Pharaoh's fatal flaw - the boredom of waiting for something to happen when you have everything as done as you can. It costs the developers a lot of business as few people are as patient as you. That's also why I tend to do military missions if given a choice. There's a bit more action, even if it is sporadic.
Hey thanks Adekyn! It does get a little slow at times… I’m dreading redoing Hetepsenruset when it comes due 🤣 I am getting a little aggressive in my editing lately so I’m trying not to pay that boredom forward. I’m editing the introduction to Dunqul right now although I haven’t started playing it yet. It’s military of course and the economy looks like it’s going to be tight so I don’t think I’ll be bored during that one.
The whole time you hear the wooshes of the arrows in the wind from the hunters lol. A sound we're all accustomed to.
I have a love hate relationship with the hunting lodge sounds. I love anything that adds ambience to the game but they are incessant 😂
Big mistake in the commentary. I keep referring to the Spacious Manors as Stately Manors. My apologies
Sorry for my ignorance, but why do we need a separate block for Senet?
The block isn’t designed to hold a Senet House, it’s simply named after my forum name way back in time on HeavenGames. I use a Small, Medium and Large variant of this basic block design for all my cities If I do place a Senet House or a Zoo in my cities, they are usually placed anywhere ‘artistic’ or in a Palace Block
wait how can you zoom out like that
Under Options, at the top right of the Gameplay settings, there is a toggle for Uncapped Zoom. It allows a lot more of the zoom you’re noticing. It’s amazing!
@@molarmauler thanks!
Ugh! It’s November 2 and we’re getting our first dump of snow. Very un-Pharaoh outside right now ⛄️
It's November 2 here also, but we have a high of 71 with sunny skies, a typical NC beautiful fall day. SenetEr, hope you are doing well.
@ I am! And I would definitely trade NC weather for Alberta weather 😂
Hey! Interesting block design! I wanted to ask if there's any chance to maybe get an spreadsheet representation for quick reference at all?
Each of the blocks has its own video now and I’ve tried to show the layout in different screenshottable ways in each video. I hope that helps as I don’t have any spreadsheet skills 😂 They are searchable as Small SenetEr Block, Medium SenetEr Block and Large SenetEr Block
@@molarmauler I understand! Thanks for the videos and response! :)
This is the most beautiful Pharaoh video I've ever seen! :D So elegant, so perfect!
Thanks! I’m practicing my editing hard, so the compliment means a ton!
usually I find most prebaked "loops" boring and ugly but this is pretty elegant (still; I'd never play with global labour on so it would be a fully residential neighbourhood; my rule is to have no shitty dwelling in a middle of nowhere so I build neighbourhood around different industrial / food districts, like the game originally intended. )
@@valdir7426we have a very similar style then. I try very hard to avoid the line crude hut for employment although I sometimes rationalize one at times 😂 Thanks for appreciating the aesthetics of the block though. It’s fully realized in the large block where buildings and venues are grouped by type with buildings needing supplies or walkers being close to the entrance. My goal was a pretty, functional block that was closely balanced to culture requirements
I love your blocks, sadly I only found them when I was pretty much finished with the campaign, but I'll probably do a replay with no global labour pool, I had that much fun with tetrising together a nice looking city that worked well on the Henen-Nesw custom mission, it was just perfect.
I’m glad you found them and I hope you do the campaign over with a non-global labor pool. It’s a good challenge and these blocks are designed to help with employment as all the houses are accessible (as they are on the ‘outside’ of the block) 😀
@@molarmauler Indeed, I only had 2 shacks on the map, both working a ferry, and with no space for anything else, and the whole 15k city ran really well. My favourite is probably the small block, they are super useful, and the other two make some nice cities.
Nice to see more Pharaoh-gameplay! Will you be playing through the entire campaign? 🔥
Yes, I’ll be focused on completing the Campaign!
I accidentally deleted this video when I was trying to clear a draft of an upcoming video. I’ve reposted it and I feel so dumb 😅 It’s too bad, it was doing a little better than usual 😂
wish you made a video about how you built your city exactly..
I've just added a link at the start of the video that will take you to Ptolemy's Alexandria, which is the city I used to create this Tips video. It is a playthrough of the creation of this city. I hope that is what you meant!
We need more civilization creators like this!
😊 I have a lot of fun, not only with the game, but I learn more editing stuff every video. Looking forward to Civ 7
Thanks I was stuck on this!
You’re welcome. It’s a fun little block!
just discovered your shorts too, pretty good! you're calm and charming, would watch documentations ^_^
Those are very stressful, especially for Mrs MolarMauler 😂 I’m happy to hear I come across calm 😌 I’ll be doing them anytime I am at a Wonder or a UNESCO site.
Finally !!! A new episode bro was waiting
I was on holidays for two weeks. Recorded the first the day before and scheduled it a few days later. Came home and recorded and edited it same day lol. I hope to be more regular again. No more holidays!
Land, Sea and Air oh baby!
Wow. Trip down memory lane here. I used to look up all these old blocks on Pharaoh Heaven back in the day. Good stuff.
That was such an awesome community. Back when the internet was a mostly nice place 😂
@@molarmauler Good times 😁
For anyone wishing to use the layout of this video, the housing is 24 X 5 (inside). You may also want to place a booth in the bottom left corner while there are spaces for at least 2 more stone quarries.I only noticed that part way through the game, which I completed in April 2495. 160 months. If I was to place the extra quarries, though, I should (the game keeps crashing) be able to get the time down to 150 months. In checking the victory notice at the end of the video it confirms the game was played on hard. When I played Rostja on normal I found that I had less debens than that of MolarMauler, having set everything up the same while only deleting as much of the kingdom road as was needed in order to place the Pyramid complex.
The debens thing is weird. It’s so fun to run good times! At HeavenGames there were some crazy times and that was on Very Hard!
I always watch :)
Thanks 🙏 I really enjoyed this one and I hope you did too
Great editing! Gameplay is so smooth! Thanks for putting this together.
My games need a lot of editing 😂 or they’re unwatchable. Now they’re just borderline unwatchable 😂 Definitely need work smoothing out the audio.
keep doing what you're doing with civ
Hey thanks! Encouragement is sorely needed at times 😂
when the bombs drop, we won't have civilization, so what you're doing is a precious and scarce resource
How the shrines don't colapse in the festivals plaza?
There is a cross road under the plaza and the shrines are all within 3 tiles of these roads. The architect will wander into the crossroad of the festival square and cover the shrines 👍
Clean smooth 👌
Thanks 💯
Awesome, Molar! 🙌
Thank you! 😁
Molarmauler Is back! Bless you molarmauler!
Thanks for all the traffic from the shoutout by Zondagskind! Sorry no episode 2 yet. Tried to squeeze it out prior to losing the house to the floor refinishers and played the Medieval Age only to find I didn’t record. I’ll be picking it up in the Renaissance as soon as I regain access to the computer!
23:20 I think that, unless you were expecting Gandhi to pick those tiles up and chop super-fast, you could've relied on your culture bomb ability to get those tiles.
😱 I totally forgot about that ability
Molar back with the Civ VI content, yay!
Hey thanks 🙏 Wasn’t intending to take as long a break. Tons of personal stuff eating up my time and energy. Hopefully be a little more consistent now
Nice time! Would you explain in more details how not buying limestone from year one was beneficial in the long run? I thought you should not miss one..
I thought I would try it to see if it helped with debt management but in retrospect I think the Ptah blessings helped more than I thought. When I do this one again during my campaign re-playthrough, I’m going to try for all the limestone and I’ll keep restarting till I duplicate the blessings I got on this run
@@molarmaulerThanks, that makes sense. Clever approach with the blessings at the start.
The city really worthy of Goddess Bast! I am only wondering why they called this mission in Greek Bubastis in 1700 BCE. It is Per-Bast, the House of Bast.
It’s always great when she (and Ptah) is on the map!
It is so slow and detailed. and considerate and boring... I love it! You are an artist! And my OCD is very pleased.
🤗Bubastis is one of the upcoming missions in my campaign replay that I’m really looking forward to.
This is awesome. Beats all the other designs out there!
Thank you! It’s an old design but it checks out 😉 I have links to a set of better quality videos in the description and I hope to make a new medium SenetEr block video soon
Thank you for these videos. Are these estates houses 5x5?
You’re very welcome! Thank you for watching!! Estates are 4x4 👍
While certain aspects differ from the original (Pyramid complex smaller, causeway longer, stream & rocks laid out differently) you can, with a small amount of modification, use the layout shown in this video for the original Pharaoh. I was also lucky with Ptah's gift of 24 gems in the storage yard by the docks, which had 8 in it. One differential, though, and that is that the granary will only get food from a connected warehouse when playing the original.

Are farms, specifically, grain farms available? The Granary accepts grain at the start of the game.
Your only producible food is Game Meat. On sells Cattle Meat at the beginning of the game. I believe Grain becomes available (along with the required Beer) when Buhen(?) opens later in the mission
Many thanks for that along with your informative video. Keep up the good work.@@molarmauler
Thanks for the encouragement!
To save the people from crocodile and other predators, you have to wait until the predators stop moving around, pause the game and build some wall, monuments around the predators to imprison them. Don't build the wall or monuments at the beginning of the game, it's not working, that way, you have to wait a bit.
I’ll have to try that. I originally did it immediately because of the old game, when that didn’t work I just gave up and accepted the losses. I thought I read somewhere that towers provide a radius of protection in the new game but I haven’t tried that out
12:59 Export prices above import prices? 😳 (I don't have Pharaoh a New Era, only the old version.)
I wasn’t sure what you meant so I went to the timestamp to have a look and holy cow! You’re right. That’s very weird. Definitely exploitable if it’s correctly displayed 😂
I figured it out. There must have been a Ra Blessing that increased our prices by 50% 😊
This mission always annoyed me, getting goods across the rivers is a right pain!
It seems almost every mission lately I have a butt clench moment waiting to see if the ferrys work. It usually involves the roads, this is the first time I had to start moving them to find the problem 😣
Oof, I have enough trouble finishing these late missions at all, let alone without roadblocks! Great work!
I have to admit I was super nervous when I decided to try it. I’m really pumped that it worked out
Very nice.
Hey thanks 🙏 Trying some new editing things. Trying to find a balance between boring and choppy 😂
Thanks for sharing, always interesting seeing how others build their cities and housing blocks. A note on entertainment, according to @7Wolf77 the entertainers provide entertainment coverage as they walk from the school to the stage, so better to put your stages at the far side of the block rather than close to the entrance.
Wolf and I employ completely different mechanics for our block entertainment. He uses the destination walker that goes from the school to the venue to provide entertainment for his blocks. I use the entertainer that spawns from the venue after the destination walker arrives from the school. That’s why he has two pavilions in his block so he can force the destination walkers up both sides of his block. I have the venues close to the entrance so the destination walker has a shorter trip to the venues so I can get away with fewer schools.
Interesting, so much to learn in this game!

What a great citizen molar mauler.. always early on the taxes... ;)
This is a game about death and taxes
My favorite too.
Thanks Adekyn! It was watching one of your videos where I saw you using it, that got me so pumped I decided to learn how to UA-cam 😀
I guess I can try that design too
@@reginaldturner1669 It’s a versatile little block. I usually have as many of them in a city as I do the large block.
