For a second I thought Ellenore was Jen Kretchmer until I heard her swear.
"I don't feel hope." Absolutely. Chilling.
Its because of Adrian that I started watching this series
BRENNAN HAD A BLOOD TABLET ALL READY TO GO?!
"And of course, it leaves a mark." Master of understatement, that Mr. Carl. :D
Which season is this?
Okay sorry for commenting after two years but I will burst if i don't and I only just watched it. Brennan's acting and portrayal is a masterpiece here, but I'm a little bit scared how many people say Adrian is 100% correct. He has strong points and names problems with vmapires correctly, names problems of Anabelle correctly and so on, that's why he's so compelling, but he is still a person trained in manipluation and keeping himself in control of others. He might believe he is doing the right thing and actually helps vampires. He might accept he's going to hell, and it's very conveniently giving him some ammo against the Church arguments, but he is still part of an institution (if not the catholic church, then this Gladius Dei or how it's called) and still enforces the rules of an organised religion. He dodges hard questions with the skill of a charimatic priest and speaks of how he's doing what he can and it's the others in the organisation who are against him and somehow this is a valid argument for him, but not for vampires, that all have to burn and die, unless they succumb to exactly the rules he follows and imposes. He has blood on his hands as well. And he tells Anabelle himself they are similar: fighting with full conviction for their idea of a better world and that requires victims and siding/ helping people who do bad things. He's not the one winning here or more in the right.
I hated his character soooo much, in a good way, the way im supposed to hate him. Good job!
Father Milo in Person
I have never seen this series before. I am 27 minutes into this and already wondering how this hasn't been turned into a feature film. I imagine that actual Catholic priests must have reached out to Brennan after this in concern, condemnation and adulation. His ability to command the screen is beyond excellence into perfection.
"Let's all sing kumbaya." "I've done that. That used to be my job." I love the mental image this gives of Brennan at a Youth Ministry camp singing around a bonfire. As incredible as his badass lines are, he still can sprinkle in a hint of comedy at times.
I love how this is just a debate about whether or not God is real (He is). What I wish he would've said was all Annabelle needed to do to find salvation and attain that grace was accept Jesus and his infinite love and mercy.
The thing is, Brennan could convert me to any religion he wanted.
Hot damn that intro clip
I live for the "oops I am good at this" line :D
X kind of ruined the ending with how childish everything they did was.
He is a Malkavian Vampire, they're supposed to have various types of mental illness. He is connected to what is called "The Madness Network" which gives them scrambled insights whether or not they want it. In effect his mental issues are intended to make Annebeth feel a duty of care.
I don't know the dice system but it felt like those ending rolls were blatently disregarded for a quick resolution that was unsatisfying imo. Adrian failed to save her soul and she didn't seem to grow as a character from where she started. I kinda want my 2 hours back.
Man the part where they solidify the antagonist and he yells at her to wale up is so good. Peak roleplaying when you can tell a player wants to escalate a situation.
Watching this I’m screaming Lasombra every time Annabelle tries to dig at Adrian about the Catholic Churches corruption. I desperately wish Brennan knew about them so Adrian could’ve turned it around on them arhhhhh.
"That is...a double Bestial Failure..." The dice really do tell a story.
"Stake the girls, torch the monster."
Jason Carl has such an amazing level, soothing tone. When someone presents an idea, the warm way in which he muses over it. Genuinely has a vampire-esque vibe to him. He feels steady, unperturbed by even the most chaotic of ideas. Jason Carl makes every supposition seem intriguing and worth exploring, too. He feels patient, measured, but also humored by the going-ons.
59:32 "Sigh.. Torch the Monster, stake the girls."
everybody talks about how incredible all of these mindblowing Brennan lines are, but can we give credit to Erika's "What? You and your nose ring against the Catholic Church?" absolutely fucking roasted Carver
1:42:13 "oh, if you wanted holy communion all you had to do was ask"
Would LOVE to see Adrian try to interact with a Garou, because oh boy would that be an insane interaction to watch unfold between a man of faith and a creature who knows the truth.
Jason Carl enabled a rapist knowingly for years and is sketchy AF
The thing is, Adrian isn’t EVIL. He’s not GOOD, but he’s not the kind of villain that would become a main bad guy. Adrian TRULY DEEPLY believes in the idea that vampires can be saved. His ENTIRE GOAL is to prove that Vampires not only have souls but the fact that they do means they can be saved by God. He’s working within a system that despises him to make it what he considers to be better. At the same time, he is actively participating in that system and allowing the evils it perpetrates in the name of chasing his own good. And even more than that, in a personal level, he considers anyone vampire or otherwise who commits sin to be beyond help.
why did X have that reaction to Adrian's blood?
By martyring himself on the cross Adrian might've just gotten a ticket to heaven. Not the first Brennen character to sneak past the gates of heaven lol.
Brennan's portryal of a member of the inqusition has seriously made me consider getting my DnD group to play a game of Hunter. I was unironically rooting for the SI by the finale hoping they burned every last vampire to ash despite them being the protagonists for seveal seasons.
And i thought brennan playing Times New Roman font was intimidating 😂
See I like Adrian because he’s got the right idea, just the wrong execution. I’ve never fully believed that Jesus hates anyone; certainly some people deny him and do bad things, but that doesn’t mean he hates them. He is Love and Compassion incarnate, after all. He wouldn’t _hate_ vampires, I think, he’d just be a little disappointed in them. He’d love them just as dearly, but I doubt he’d approve of the “eating people” thing. My approach would be thus: do you regret what you do? Do you feel sad when you hurt someone? If yes, Then God still loves you. If not, He still loves you, but you must be punished for your misdeeds. I actually had a character once who lived in an old church and passed the time restoring old crosses. Everyone called him “Father Bran.” When a Faith Hunter tried that cross trick on him, he just reached out and grabbed it out of his hand and said: “Savior be praised…the woodwork upon this is magnificent. Where did you find this? May I draw it for later designs?”
Adrian was such a compelling character that I was rooting for him, not the vampires, by the end of the show. Still bummed that with his 6 Successes, Adrian was the sacrificial lamb. I kinda get what they're going for there, but it essentially removed the most interesting character from the show, and Annabelle didn't really grow or change from the experience at all. In the end, Adrian really was the series' peak
Probably why that's the only part I get recommended in The Algorithm; Gateway to get me to watch the rest. It's not happening.
good lord okay okay right good lord
Brennan has such a brand my first thought was "really you eating almonds right now!"
@1:33:00 never has kys been delivered in such a way that it almost makes sense
I wonder what there world be whit Dracula lore in this campaign
Me watching this at the start: YAY ITS THE CATHOLIC CHURCH Me at the end: Oh... its the catholic chuch No jokes but that was wonderful acting by Brennan he truly is one of a kind.
I've never seen any of this show other than this video and i can fully understand everybodies intentions and positions. Being a huge brennan fan this wasnt surprising, just satisying to see brennan get to flex his 'i'm a villain but i'm also totally right' muscle
36:40 Such a badass line...
Well this is certainly interesting. Where could I find the rest of this series?
It's LA by night, all seasons are here on youtube.
1:51:59 almond break
AND IT"S NOT EVEN SCRIPTED SO WHEN HE'S BEING SO COOL AND SMART ITS JUST !!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
BRENNANNS SO FUCKING COOL IN THIS IT"S NOTWEFWOIPFJP JWROIGHWHFOI
From the perspective of someone that hasn't seen the show. It seems like Adrian is actually right. Vampire's are monsters that feed on the living to survive and many of them feel no guilt in this. Adrian wishes to kill them all except the one that he sees as within arms reach of redemption. But she chose to throw away that chance to have her life back just to save the monsters she calls family. In life or in death, he wins either way.
You see having this be set as a wod game not fully knowing if he's Imbuned or if hes just insane is an interesting thing to watch.
55:16 Isn't the woman playing Ellenore married?
That would be Marisha Ray, who is married to world class DM Matt Mercer
