yes, distances in north America are huge! even by RSA standards! from what we've seen so far, almost every town has at least one public campground, so far ave. about $40/night for 1nt stay on a powered site. probably cheaper in early spring, winter, late autumn. will depend where, tho. so far we've only been around BC and the US northwest region. experience to date tells that municipally-run campgrounds are better than private ones. we rarely book ahead, just show up when we're tired of driving for the day ... get the impression that managers are very helpful if you show up knackered and no spots available, they might squeeze you in somewhere on an extension cord!
