This channel is mostly about epic volcanoes, snorkeling spots, and hot springs as well as airplanes and trains that get us there. We are based on the Big Island of Hawaii, but we like to travel around the Pacific Ocean and share videos of our adventures.
Our videos are mostly shot in the first person point of view and we are trying to preserve as much of the ambient sound where practical, so the viewer can feel they travel with us. If you want more information about our videos, make sure to turn on closed captions [CC]. This is where we provide plenty of commentary.

Dump of an airport
Beautiful. Been there many times. M A H A L O 😊😊😊
Hi, may I ask what time of year this was? Great vid :)
Early March.
Hello , thank you for your video . Did you buy the hakone free pass ? And for luggage do you have to say you have luggage or just come and put them ? 😃
Thanks for watching! We didn't get the Hakone Free Pass, which, in retrospect, was probably a mistake. We wouldn't have saved much money, but it would have saved us time in a couple of places with tight connections. We travel only with carry-on luggage, so I cannot say for sure, but I don't remember Romancecar having any reservation system like Shinkansen. Luggage wasn't mentioned on the ticket they issued and I cannot find anything about it in Q8 in their FAQ www.odakyu.jp/english/support/faq/ So, I think it is safe to assume that you don't have to notify anyone and it is just first-come-first-serve.
Thanks for the video! How long in advance do you have to book tickets?
It really depends on the season and if you want a particular room. The tickets go on sale 3 months before the date of departure, but the price and availability varies depending on the season (See www.ferry-sunflower.co.jp/en/route/osaka-beppu/fee/) Right now in April you might be able to find decent tickets even for the next day especially if you don't travel on a weekend, but I suspect Obon Week will be sold out very quickly. And if you want a particular room or suite you should definitely try to reserve as far in advance as possible since they only have a limited number of each kind, and some rooms and suites do sell out quite far in advance.
@@igorealism thank you so much for the super detailed answer!
when did you go?
End of October 2022
Love the gardens at the airport. The first time we flew through Honolulu, we had our lunch in the gardens. So relaxing waiting for our Kauai flight!
My 1st wife and I did this hike in 1980. Looks like little has changed. We then had dinner at the Volcano House....wonder if it's still there?
Volcano House is still there and they still serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. I personally prefer Thai Thai Bistro though.
how much did you pay. Did you have a private onsen in your room ?
It was "Superior Room with Open-Air Bath" with both breakfast and dinner included booked on booking.com. We booked it right after Japan started to allow foreign tourists in. At that time domestic tourism only started to pick up, so some places offered heavy discounts that combined with favorable usd to yen exchange rate got us a pretty sweat deal. At the moment, you can get a room starting at $450+ without dinner and $570+ with dinner for 2 if you shop around (I would check Agoda and booking.com to start with). Availability is a bit tight at the moment though.
how would you compare this and Kowakien Tenyu?
They both are pretty good. So it really depends on what you care more about. Buffet vs set dinner and which location would work better for you.
what did u use to film?
This one was shot on GoPro HERO11 Black using GoPro MAX grip.
How many nights were you there ….and how many nights did you see the northern lights
We spent 2 nights there and both nights we saw the northern lights.
Is the ANA lounge accessable to United Club members or star alliance Gold only?
Sorry, I haven’t tried it myself, so I don’t know for sure. But according to both Star Aliance website, and ANA website, Star Alliance Member Carriers' Paid Lounge Membership (which includes United Club) should grant access, so I think it's worth a try.
Gorgeous, aside from the Kona Capt. Cook boat that takes you out into the middle of the gorgeous bay, this place, just down from Mauna Lani hotel is the best. So sad to see all the dead coral though - really a shame.
Yeah, coral wasn't in a great shape there. Honokaope Bay, which is right next to it, looks much healthier.
It looks like a lovely place! Thank you for sharing your experience! I would love to go myself someday but I am too far away!
If you manage to get to Tokyo, it is only 3 hours away. The problem, of course, is getting to Tokyo, at least in our case 🙂
I just came back to LAX from HNL and the airport was amazing! Perfect for spotters that have a flight soon! There are open windows in the terminals
What is your reason Tim. Looks like you like to travel alone as a single. You should bit have been married and have a child an fam.
Not married and have fam but stay alone single.
Looking at this 8 months in advance before our girls trip! Thanks for the content! 🤩
Hope you enjoy that trip!
Thank you for sharing this. Most visitors to Hawaii don't even roll their cameras until they hit Waikiki, lol.
Heh. I didn't even make it to Waikiki that time. It was a very long layover on KOA-HNL-NRT trip.
My favorite snorkeling spot in Waikoloa.
enjoyed this thank you, Alaska can look desolate in places, I've just spent last 10 years working my XPT TRAINS in New South Wales Australia working on long haul passenger Interestate trains as an Attendant-Conductor.. Joined after retiring from my old career in 2012 top job, loved it, few jerks enroute which is not unusal the world over. but ..
Can we take our own towel? Or do we need to use the ones from the facility?
If you stay at the resort overnight the towels are free, otherwise you can borrow theirs for $5. I haven't seen any signs prohibiting bringing your own towel. There is also nobody standing between lockers and the pool to stop you.
Hi there great video. How did you made sure it's the 70000 train? I tried booking online and it doesn't show what train it is. Thanks!
Thanks! The train type can be found at the bottom of timetable www.odakyu.jp/english/romancecar/timetable/. The 70000 trains have observation decks and marked with red rectangle with [展] at the bottom of the table. Once you found the time, go to www.odakyu.jp/english/romancecar/ and type this time and desired date into "Online Purchase System" in the middle of the page. It will get you to the "Seat availability" screen. On that screen if it says something like "Hakone 1 (GSE)", it is 70000, if it says something else in parentheses such as (MSE10 or EXE10), it is not 70000. For 70000 trains it will also tell you how many observation deck seats are available in front and back cars.
Why so empty? You know HNL AIRPORT has plenty of Ghosts.
Indeed, HNL always makes it into the "top N haunted airports", but at least it doesn't have Blucifer greeting you on the way out as in DEN does 😂
Yes I heard it haunted because it used to be a graveyard and all the eeve witch is a poison plant😂 but I think they removed the poison so yeah
where you grew up?
👍👍👍🤙🤙🤙👊👊👊
Worst airport on earth. If your flight gets canceled or you get bumped, or standby. They’ll have you sleep outside in the cold and rain.
Are you serious?
@@averagejoe9249 I’m literally serious
I think it really depends on the airline and destination. Hawaii is quite remote, so some airlines only fly one or two flights a day. There are destinations that have one flight a week. So if such a flight is cancelled you might be in trouble. Personally, I will take being stuck at HNL over ORD any day. And I had my share of cancellations and delays at both. I fly mostly United and Hawaiian so YMMV.
@@igorealism being stuck in the Hnl airport isn’t something you want. Half the airport doesn’t have walls, therefore you’re practically freezing
Walk around and look for Ghosts. Really Haunted.
Great Video
✈ good vid ! I love that airporr, but seriously - did HNL need all of that added /extra / empty spacd ??? no 😊!
Thanks! It does indeed feel a bit excessive.
Would you recommend this place? On the scale from 1 to 10, how would you rate this place and the food?
It is a really good place. It is not the best ryokan I ever stayed at, but it is a good choice for the area, especially if you have vegetarians in your party. Personally, I prefer smaller places, this one was huge.

A job on the train as a cook brought me to Alaska in 1993 and I am still here. I worked two summers Anchorage to Fairbanks as a cook on the train.

What kind of camera did you take pic of the northern lights with?
It is iPhone 13 Pro handheld. I used DJI OM 5 to reduce shakiness a bit on a couple of shots. All photos in the video were shot using the wide-angle lens (the middle one, 5.7mm, 26mm equivalent). Ultra-wide angle shots didn't work out unfortunately.
Subhanallah very nice
The engineers don't wave from the trains anymore, not like they did back in 1954.

@@igorealism You don't burn them. You add them when you edit before you upload.

Wow! Thanks for taking us along on your hike! I loved it!
Pele is displeased with the people of Hawaii
So far, she cut off an access road to Mauna Loa Observatory and caused a large hordes of tourists to arrive on the island to see the eruptions. Based on the history of past eruptions it could have been much worse.
Or, the class M solar flare and 2 equatorial sun spots, the effects of which our planet is currently experiencing. The sun has incredible gravitational energy, and even light-years away from it, our planet reacts. Pele might not like the sun spots or solar flares. I'm not familiar but is she opposed to some sort of "sun god" or a "god of light" perhaps, cuz that'd be a neat link.
Doc Savage would never have made such a naive and mistaken comment.
Not even close to a smart comment
Pele was a person , so you must be displeased with her as she was a person of hawaii.
