Thanks for your video, very usefull. I just did that on my w212 om651, had the rattling every once in a while, like 1 cold start on 5, so i decided to change the tensioner. The piece costs 150€+ in mercedes dealership, i purchased 60€ from autodoc from INA brand. Struggled a little because my 27mm was a long one, but other than that i just purchased a torque rench so i could spec the bolt to 80NM. Thanks for your videos
I saw someone use special tool to get to tensioner to loose the belt without remove all those parts.
I tink u supose to take out the pin of tention after u put the belt 😂
Hi, great video thanks. I came across a problem after dis-assembling everything else. Even on the mercedes WIS it has zero instructions and skips this step. once everything else is off. Whats the score with this little heatshield thats blocking access to the tensioner? I got one bolt off it. top right now. But zero access for asocket to get onto the tensioner with this on.

Low quality german product. Same problems as N47 Bmw engines.So Mercedes is worse then Bmw now.

Thank you for the video!! Mine is year 2010, C200, W204 and OM651, and 200 000 km. I followed the steps and all went well except for one thing. The lower edge of the heat shield was in the way of getting the 27 mm in place onto the tensioner. I had to remove two of the bolts holding the heat shield, and then bending the shield maybe 10mm outwards, away from the tensioner. (The last bolt holding the shield was not reachable)😊 Also worth mentioning; the rattle at first startup was terrible and lasted for quite a few seconds!! I hope it didn't ruin anything in there. 😮😮😮 We hope for the best.
Exactly the same for me! But C220 2012 and 310 000km First rattle was scary… Is yours okay today?

UPDATE AUG 2024 1. For c class w204 om651 near before taking out the tensioner, there is 1 more element(starter protection) with 2 bolts that needs to be lossened because your wrench cannot touch completly the tensioner 2.first engine start after tensioner swap has a big rattle sound for 2-4 seconds because the new tensioner doesnt have pressured oil inside, so he needs to build it inside the engine
Dose the GLE 2016 needs to follow exactly the same steps in order to change the tensioner?
Do you need the last setup to fill it? Or would it be fine enough to press the bottle upside down to fill it?
not enough space for a 1L bottle there, need to have a pump. doesnt need to be electric can use regular small hand pump

I made the mistake of buying a mercedes this year. It needs everything. Suspension, balance shaft repair and so on. Ugg.

Me too.I sold w 203 and bought w204.First one was totally garbage and this one is even worse then garbage.I should stay with Japanese cars!

Czesc, mam problem z grzechotaniem po odpaleniu auta na zimnym silniku. Tylko przy starcie przez sekunde lub dwie slychac grzechot. Pozniej jest ok i nie ma zadnych bledow. Co najgorsze, stalo sie to po wymianie rozrzadu (kola zebate VAICO, lancuch ori, napinacz ori). Widze ze pisza tez o walkach rozrzadu ale nie chce mi sie wierzyc w ta teorie tym bardziej ze przed wymiana bylo ok. Podpowiesz cos?
How can i check what my Numbers are, before removing the steering wheel? Maybe im wrong but i noticed that pre lift Numbers are ending with last two Numbers 18, and after lift ending with 45.

Hi great video and good to see the positive comments. Quick question please. Is it necessary to prime the new tensioner? I suspect the oil pressure will build the tensioner pressure up when started but that first start will mean the tensioner won’t be primed without oil? I see user andrewkerrigan had the noise on first start up. I suspect this means the tensioner isn’t pre primed? Thanks

Hello W204 c250 cdi 2011 worked spot on, and it didn't take very long. Chain noise on the first start up, then all good it's been a week now. Moving on to the next job. Thank you very much for saving me a lot of money

Nicely done. You are supposed to install a pin on the tensioner after you relieve pressure on the belt and leave the pin in while removing and instlaling the belt. At 4:51 it would have been easier to install the belt if you had left that pin in untill after you got it on. That way you don't have to hold the tensioner while installing or removingthe belt....but you got it done so good on you.

@@dieschnellekatze do you also have this rattle on a morning cold start. Yes it can be tensioner. But ive got some other theorys on the route cause. That sets this in motion. Infact not just a theory. In my case ive proved by various experiments. My theory is fact. If your interested to hear. Reply here
Maybe Vacuumpump can make some scary noises like the chain. I drive a w204 with the om651...what theorys do you have?

In this case you don't need to rotate nothing, is not needed.

Correct, TDC is irrelevant as regards the chain tensioner. Obviously different if you were replacing the chain.
i have the same problem bro , i installed correctly it works perfect everything but the esp message shows up and it doesent go also when i restet it . can you please give me a tip what schould i do to delete dhe ESP message? thanks
If u did everything correctly, are you sure this is whats causing ur problem? Have u read codes off the car?

Listen brodie dont stress. I walk u through process 1. Disconnect battery 2. Take old sensor off. 3. Connect the battery BEFORE putting new sensor back in 4. Follow instructions on YOUR sensor while the battery is connected 5. Put everything back together and see if it goes away. If not, turn wheel all the way left and all the way right. Try erasing the fault code. If that does not work you have another faulty sensor. Did you buy used or new? What is the part number?
I am about to attempt mine. One question please. Do you have to drain any oil first? Thank you.
No need to, minimal amount of oil will come out of the tensioner. Spray area with brake cleaner after you have installed the new one and ur good
