How to Deal with Mr. X
As much as I'd love to do a dedicated review of Resident Evil 2, there's a bunch of those already so i'll probably wait. Till then I'd like to deep dive into Mr. X as he's such an infamous part of the Resident Evil 2 experience. I've been on both sides of the spectrum between those who love his constant harassments, and those who want nothing to do with him when he's around. As someone who generally DOESN'T like having him around, I've devised a mostly soundproof guide to make Mr. X as non threatening as possible. I hope to benefit those who want him to feel less like an actual obstacle, and more like brief encounters that are as brief as they can be.
Apologies in advance that this video is only in 1080p. After too many troubles with converting my edits into 4k, I just said fuck it as I doubt it makes that much of a difference. Regarding the poll, I don't have a close date as I usually begin new videos when I feel like it. Should the poll somehow not provide a definitive answer I'll go with whatever I see most in the comments. Either way I hope y'all enjoy!

Emulators Vs. Retroarch
Переглядів 92 тис.2 місяці тому
I try to go over the general experience of using unofficial emulators and their standalone software, compared to using Retroarch. Playing on unofficial emulators can be a daunting task for those who've never pursued it. Solutions for that demographic do exist such as Retroarch. Unfortunately while Retroarch is the most popular and known emulator hub, it's still not without issues that can make ...
Why I Bought the RetroTink4K
Переглядів 21 тис.4 місяці тому
You may have heard of the RetroTink4K. Specifically regarding the outrageous price. For most, such a high entree fee would most certainly not be worth it. However I found extremely beneficial use with the Tink4K that makes it worth every penny. The CRT filters. With old CRT displays getting more challenging to find, and modern retro releases not including good CRT filters in most cases, the Tin...
Ode to the Octagonal Gate
Переглядів 10 тис.5 місяців тому
I've been thinking about a small little aspect in gaming and that's the use of an octagonal gate on Nintendo's first few 3D consoles. It wasn't until the Wii U when they ditched the Octagonal Gate. Because of this the libraries for N64, GameCube, and Wii have frequently been challenging to enjoy with modern controllers simply because the octagonal gate is missing. May seem like a pointless issu...

A Totally Calm and Collected REACTION of the (6/18/2024) NINTENDO DIRECT
Переглядів 2 тис.6 місяців тому
So I managed to catch that new Nintendo Direct that aired earlier this morning. Always a good time to watch stuff live. Prepare to witness one of the very few times I legit lose my composure to an announcement. Usually I'm quite composed and stoic over hype related stuff. Anyhoos, just a fun lil reaction. Should hopefully have the next vid finished real soon.
Why I Don't Like *Most* HD Texture Packs
Переглядів 46 тис.7 місяців тому
I have been told many a times to simply just get a texture pack if I feel retro games at higher res provide less than desirable visuals. Unfortunately I find most texture packs from fans and devs, aren't quite the fix most would insist they are. I feel more comfortable playing retro games with their original visuals, displayed in an original format at lower resolutions. I understand this is a b...
Elden Ring: My First Impressions
Переглядів 1,1 тис.8 місяців тому
Only a never ending game like Elden Ring could ever call for first impressions only after beating the game. This gargantuan game was a predominant reason why uploads have slowed down a bit. It's not an exaggeration with just how huge and long this game is and even after finishing it there's still got to be 10s of 100s of hours of content for me to try. Either way, the game is done, and it is on...

*MAJOR SPOILERS* *VIEW AT YOUR OWN RISK* Out of all the different types of video game experiences, the one of the original Zelda has always fascinated me. Learning to LOVE The Legend of Zelda (NES)
Переглядів 9 тис.9 місяців тому
The Legend of Zelda is a game that I never had much interest in playing growing up, simply from the dated nature of it nowadays. However recently there's been a rekindled interest in really giving this game a chance, and the results were certainly interesting. Despite how aged this game may seem nowadays, I am now of the belief that this game is still just as playable as it was then and can be ...
Learning To LOVE Metroid (NES)

Metroid is a well respected series with a first entrée that's not looked on fondly in today's age. I have my unique history with this game, resulting in enjoying it far more than I ever thought I would. I'm at a point now where I'll greatly defend this game and don't think it's as bad as many modern gamers would make it out to be. Sure it's old, but it's no less fun imho. Music Used: Kraid's La...
Consoles Vs. Emulators

Retro gaming is a lot more complicated now than simply picking up a retro console w/ games. So many options, so much to consider, countless pros and cons on both sides. I've been active on both sides of the console vs emulator debate and find that while each have their shortcomings, retro gamers have it better than ever before. Why I Don't Like Twilight Princess HD
Переглядів 124 тис.11 місяців тому
Probably going to be my most divisive video, but one I wanted to make anyway. Twilight Princess is a game I hold pretty dear to me. The HD version for Wii U is a fine enough version. But as a person who really cares about the minor details that most don't notice, I ultimately feel disappointed with it, and find it a lesser way to play the game. A completely minority opinion to have to be sure, ...
NOW Dolphin Is The Best Emulator!!

Dolphin has been recently updated to allow for sharp pixel video output thanks to a new resampler setting. Needless to say it looks spectacular so I wanted to bring some attention to it. Apologizes for some of the compressed footage in certain footage and desktop capture. I get it may make direct comparisons harder to see. I'm hoping to be able to capture 4K video some time in the near future w...

The one that eat mario is not big bertha, it is Boss Bass the mal version of big bertha, Big bertha loves mario and never eat him and they are in deep water it looks like they attack with their baby fish.
I did try the Japanese NES version of Super mario bros. 3 and it does not make it harder the extra damage and they also made Wendy koopa the one from world 3 less aggressive because of one hit your small mario no matter what power-up
I sold my original Switch during the shortage in 2020 and by pure chance this was the one game I held onto. Now that I picked up an OLED I’m enjoying playing it and the rarity of it really surprised me.
you know the horror game the backroom maybe mario game have a connection to the backroom or the mario universe is also part of the backroom, the creator of Mario game did say that it is just a theatre play, Super mario bros.3 in the backroom they are some section that look like a theatre play but it is the real environment and not an actuall theatre play. So what if Super mario bros.3 just look like a theatre play but it is not, that would indicate Super mario is always in the backroom but the children friendly version of it.
With the Spade game. On The GBA version I did some testing and something spaming work on getting a full picture, something spaming gets you a full mushroom, and something a full fire flower, and something a full star, and something a different type of missing. It all depend on the frame you enter the spade, and then the frame you press to stop the picture. It give the illusion of random with that since your playing on the Game cube Game boy player.
After defeating the mid-castle as long the lock was not a mandatory lock to progress, but in the all-stars version after the mid-castle that does not have a mandatory lock, you still have to manually save so the lock-path remain open.
Agreed 👍 its so headache inducing, the only good thing that I got out of retroarch was it's sega saturn Corey (almost all standard emulators had some kind of problem or not even workings with me) but with the beetle Core and kronos? It did helped but otherwise? I won't bother with it at all . Using Launchbox was fun especially trying to add the stuff that you want to users forever, just finished using Mesan and I'll be adding it soon to my Launchbox......but about Ares Emulator, how is it with Arcade games ? I would like to change Mame if Ares is better 😅
hey i have a suggestion that if you try GPU decoding option and use higher resolution it would be totally different at lease in SuperMarioGalaxy
Cheer~~~involving or creating favorable circumstances that increase the chances of success or effectiveness--- beneficial.(all rhythm accompaniment...good)😊
That music man
And I agree with everything
Everything you talked about was 100% valid
Weird flex
i'd recomend "CRT new pixie" filter on duckstation my favorite, not for fidelity but for aesthetics
Yeah... RetroArch is not for those who don't have enough patience to make configurations, ESPECIALLY if you involve shaders or some nitpicks, I usually use RetroArch for NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, but for other few like NeoGeo I go more with Final Burn Neo standalone as I dislike how the audio sounds in RetroArch with said core... of course, assuming I don't want to use the proper console if I have them, overall, I still have to agree that standalone emulators go better in the long run, heck, I may have to give Ares a try to see if it can potentially replace RetroArch to some extent (and for a bit easier recording with my capture card here and there).
I was introduced to emulation at a very early age, and before the 360 came out it was a bit more difficult to just throw any modern console controller at your PC and have it work seamlessly, so when it came to N64 games I frequently played them with a keyboard and… 64 felt a lot better than you’d think. A couple years later I played the DS version and it indeed felt very sluggish by comparison, almost in the same way I found 64 itself sluggish compared to Sunshine which I’d played first. I don’t think this was to compensate for the lack of analog control so much as the direction Nintendo was taking the series, as Super Mario Galaxy has super sluggish controls compared to 64 and Sunshine, something I’d even noticed as a kid.
Using the RYNO is not cheating. If it's in the game, then it's okay to use it as much as you want.
DPad was bad enough but making walking the default with a buttoj hold to run was the final straw. I wanted to replay this game at one point but holding a button to run everywhere is annoying in a platformer.
Emulation is awesome
I think these differences are more pronounced when you play the two versions back to back. As someone who played the GameCube version around release and then replayed on Wii U, I feel like some of the more “nitpick-ey” things do not really stick out. It just seemed like an upscaled version of the original to me, similar to the wind walker hd version
I absolutely agree with all of this. This is why I prefer to play the original version of a game before playing a remake or remaster. There seems to always be at least a few things lost in translation when remastering or remaking a game. Twilight Princess HD was not an exception to the rule.
i think at any resolution i'd rather be looking at the original art
Maybe if they implemented to chose between simple and advanced settings...
Skillissue just use "Retrobat" Frondtend for better experience
This is the next game im planning to play in the series and i was in doubt about which version to play. You've made me decide that the best way for me to play will be the original release, thanks.
me and you are the same brother
I've never been fussy about playing games on emulators, as long as they run well. Sure, there's nothing quite like playing a game on the original hardware it was designed for, but being able to have several generations worth of games accessible on my PC is super convenient for me. Probably helps that I was introduced to emulation at an early age, when my dad downloaded VisualBoyAdvance for me since we couldn't afford the real thing at the time.
You lost me at “pretty clear timeline” 😂
Batocera says "Hold my beer"
I have the similar gripe when Launchbox is brought up, Playnite is just better, its not RA tinker levels bad, but tinkering PN makes your library perfect in desktop or tv mode. I used reWASD for contolers, works with dualsense and worth the price for fearures, unlike LB 👍
So.. does a frontend like Retroarch exist? Which can be installed on pretty much any system, but with actually easy set-up?
19:56 ...You do know you can fix that with File Associations, right? Just tell your computer to open a specific emulator for each file type, and you just double-click the ROM file and it works. Before I started using LaunchBox, that's what I did.
retroarch is easy when you don't fiddle with every single option and just focus on the ones you need, for some reason people see lots of options and instantly feel the need to tweak all of them, real low IQ behavior not being able to tell which 5-10 options are the only ones you'll ever need
You're using Volkan, but can't read the enclosed documentation on this "overwhelming array of options"? I appreciate the overview, but if a user can't be assed to read a readme doc, maybe they don't deserve the benefits.
I don’t really care much either way, but I do wish that when old games are rereleased nowadays, that you could at least change a setting to revert the textures to the original if they update the textures, just for the sake of those who prefer it, and for me, i do usually prefer to play games in hd but only if I think it looks aesthetically better, if my laptop could handle it I probably would have played persona 3 fes w/ the hd textures, at least hd ui stuff since I personally like the looks of low resolution textures on the low poly models but with hd ui if I have the resolution increased just cause the models have sharper edges so it would be nice if the ui has the same sharp edges, but beyond that it’s unnecessary The only time I have a real issue with hd textures is when they ai upscale them, I’m looking at you personally 3 portable rerelease that uses ai upscaled images for most of the background images… gross
Literally all I ask for most of the time. No harm in having an "original" mode or something like that.
@ it’s one of the things that’s nice about (I believe it’s) master chief collection (it could be a different remaster of halo 1, I don’t remember, point is) where if you just press a button it goes back to the original textures and models, it’s nice to have even if few people will use it
I use retroarch with launch box/bigbox and it works flawlessly. It’s a piece of software. There’s a learning curve like any complex software. A lot of stand alone emulators don’t support retroachievements and I will just leave it at that. Don’t be butthurt because you were too lazy to figure out how to use it. It wasn’t the difficulty. It was you.
Retroarch isn’t perfect but crt shaders work no problem they are plug and play, also emulation station is not hard to setup
Retroarch is like the health insurance industry, unnecessary, time consuming and p🎉ointless. Systems like batocera, daijisho and launchbox already have the emulators via emulation station, they should just have the bios files and be an all in one solution
Too many settings options isn't a bad thing. If you don't want to mess around with fine tuning things, you can literally pretend those settings aren't there and you'll be gold. 10 out of 10 times, I'll take the setup with additional settings
thats why you pair retroarch with Launchbox, launchbox will auto download any cores for the system you import and setup any configs, then goto bigbox mode in launchbox and use that for "console" like gui
30:36 mh I don't think so. For me at least it's been always "the more you know, the more you know how much you don't know". And I mean that's cool cuz there's always room to learn new stuff and try out other things. But I can agree on the point that trying out emulation on pc can help to go down many memory lanes. Great video btw. I really could relate on the pain points of retroarch.
Sigh, the NSO controller is NOT a "perfect" N64 reproduction, as Nintendo changed out the glorious optical encoder wheels for those damn potentiometers, while keeping the problematic plastic bowl design. If you think there was a company that could bring back optical wheel technology back from the era of ball mice, it'd be Nintendo...but alas
Just play it on the 3DS you GOOBER
The fact of it becoming delisted from the E shop is straight out crazy. I just bought a copy today. Brand new never been open for $154 which I think is totally outrageous. If I would’ve knew that it was the reason because of the shop delisting the digital copy I would’ve never bought this game, but thanks for the information👌
Glad you brought up stuff like the Tink4k. I bought and Analogue Pocket + Dock. Its Hardware emu instead of software emu, but after setting it up its become my 2D retro gaming solution for anything before 3D games. Both couch and handheld gaming. It kinda feels like everything Retroarch should be since controller support is very automatic, the CRT and GB/GBC/GBA filters are incredible too. And all games just work incredibly accurately with little input lag. The CRT filter might just be the best one I've ever used The only issue I have is that some consoles like SNES dont have save states, but I hardly use them anyways. It is 219 bucks though and the dock is another 100. But it finally put my 2D Retro games and saves in one place whether I am gaming on my TV, or on the go.
Glad I'm not the only one that didn't like using retroarch. Ive been seeing it recommended so much lately but I couldn't get into it. I did built a retropie machine which uses retroarch and that was pretty great. Somehow it's a much better experience than on pc.
That's the thing that flips me off about Retroarch.... menu layout. Everything is just branched and tucked away at the worst headers for a menu system. Menus hidden under menus under menus. And the worst ways to set up your controller, you got to set your controller up to identify the buttons on the controller itself and then though THAT set the controls though an emulator (or worse, set controls to operate RA) in another menu. But in an emulator, you can't set controls by pressing buttons like the initial controller setup, but from a dropdown menu. Why do the same thing but in two completely different ways?
Twilight is the greatest....after windwaker
