Fighting at Wewak Bay ESP
SEVERAL homes at the Basis (Wewak bay) were torched, families became homeless and Wewak town in East Sepik came to a standstill yesterday following a fight between landowners and settlers.
According to information from police, the incident stemmed from the death of a 38-year-old Paul Honokra from Mengar village, Wewak district.
Police said this resulted in Mengar villagers attacking and killing three settlers from Basis and Dump areas.
Police commander Supt Albert Beli said the deceased had organised a volleyball competition for neighbouring villages and settlements to participate at his village.
Police said it was alleged that on Sunday afternoon, supporters from two of the teams got into an argument where the deceased intervened and tried to quell the situation when he was shot on his chest with wire from a catapult, police said.
He was rushed to the main hospital at Boram but he succumbed to his injuries.
Beli said two others were also injured on the same day as the deceased and were hospitalised.
On Monday morning, relatives of the deceased retaliated and allegedly killed three others from the other faction.
Their bodies were at the morgue while police tried to apprehend those responsible.
Beli told The National that most of those involved were believed to be under the age of 19.
He said some of the suspects in the fight had been identified and arrests would be made soon.

Speaking from a former Cheerleader ... FIRST ... YOUNG LADIES LOOK FABULOUS!!! They all are really precise in clap/ stomp/ dance/ arm movement doing sideline cheers. ENERGY IS CRAZY LIT! Voices are strong/ nice tone/ projection and sound like one. The only suggestion would be to work on is CLARITY. Sidelines in Cheer are meant to get audience participating by voicing back. Clearly hearing all words is "A Must " for Constant Participation. Sidelines are so important and necessary for School/Team Spirit and Player Encouragedment. Side Lines are VITAL during tough game situations - AWAY GAMES/ LOW NUMBERS IN SPECTATORS AND ESPECIALLY IF TEAM IS NOT PLAYING WELL. Provides Encourage, Active Support and Keeps PLAYER MORALE Up during games. MOST of ALL , The AUDIENCE and Especially STUDENTS love to be a part OF it ALL with the Cheerleaders!🎉🏈

This team is so consistently LIT 🔥 they bring the energy from entrance to exit. Sass and class fa dayzzz! Plus they have THE best uniform selection! Y’all should do a uniform tour. I’m nosey gurls! How many uniforms do y’all get a year? Do you have a dedicated cheerleader room for all this?we got to take some home but the special ones for homecoming, special routines, championships, or if someone gained or lost weight. Extra shoes-not new boo-you be stuck with Becky old ASICS from 1994🤣Lol I love that the coaches let them wear the older uniforms! Those were back in my day (mid-late 90’s) and they still look brand new! Cherish your coaches and managers or however y’all run things. It’s precious memories forever! Keep em on they toes beauties!
