My Mum's grandfather moved from Dunnichen to NZ in the 1890's.Funnily enough, he played the violin too, played in dance bands and was a violin teacher as well. The family farmed at Newdyke , just below Kingsmuir. They were there about 300 yrs , so there are a few family members buried in the Kirk yard where you filmed. Been there 20 yrs ago, beautiful place.

Addition,Paul...once,there was something that sprang to my mind......the statement "The watering down of the scene"....YOUR words,..as was rumoured.......???? Think,I can confirm that. Well,Paul,...if so...I can tell you I did understand this one.completely.BBC wanted to stop the use of the accordion in the Scottish Dance Scene.I take it? This in order to make way for that monster "Celtic Connections". Or called in initiated circles "Celtic Confectionaries".Which has no substance nor provenance,so...a real hodgepodge. We noticed that round the milennium period,in that way,the SDB's didn't dare to play the best authentic tunes any longer,only the modern crap.Band A played the composed tunes from band B and the other way round.So..there was a Standstill in the scene of the SDB's.All I noticed here, came to my knowledge when visiting Aberdeen for the 1st time.And it also was the topic between Robbie and me. Heaven thanks,my latest impression...BBC have lost the battle. What to think of BBC.....Paul..suppose I need not remind you of the story of the BBC Scottish Variety Orchestra(leader Dennis McConnel,conductor Jack Leon) Operating from 1949 to mid60,and BBC have destroyed all of their recorded programs and the designated tapes.(Except for one).A disgrace,to think I was a regular listener to them in the 50s..on monday night they broadcast in their weekly programme "Music On The Move.".All announced by Robbie's forerunner David Findlay. Must tell you,I would give everything to get hold of recordings,tapes...of this brilliant orchestra,playing always authentic stuff,eg Gow tunes in excellent arrangements. Well,Paul...hope this story may mean st to you!!!!

And...Robbie,my very best friend.....he deserves it.Sadly,he is not with us anymore.I don't mind telling you,I never 'll get over it!!

I can't play this one without tearing up. I play it on the pipes for my dad at his grave every year, last time I did this thanksgiving as a lament for those who were no longer with us, I almost lost it. Hard to play these days, even after 8 years.
