Tulsa River Park Trails - Nature and Wildlife

Tulsa River Parks has 26 miles of paved trails that run along the Arkansas River and offer outdoor recreation. The trails pass by fountains, playgrounds, sculptures, and gathering areas. The park also owns and leases hundreds of acres for wildlife habitation and land preservation

Tulsa River Park Trails - Young Bald Eagle Lets Turkey Vultures Feed - Takes Flight (7-6-24)
Shot on trail south of the low water dam. The young Bald Eagle had enough and let the Turkey Vultures finish the fish.

The video was shot off the trail south of the low water dam. I aw the young Bald Eagle fly down to the river bed and thought there were two. Turned out to be two Turkey Vultures, a young Bald Eagle and a Great Blue Heron that was interested but moved by.

I shot this around 48th and Riverside Dr. I tried to take some video of Mississippi Kites down by the casino, but they come and go too quickly. I noticed a dead looking tree with a small grey bird and it turned out to be a Mississippi Kite. It's about the size of a Crow, but it has a much bigger wingspan. Was so glad to get a close up video of this beautiful bird.

Video shot next to casino. This is the Bald Eagle that was taking a bird bath and drying off. I missed the second adult leaving, but this one gave me a pretty flight.

Video shot next to casino. This was so cool to see a Bald Eagle taking a bird bath. Got some great wing flapping to dry off before taking flight in the last video of this shooting.

Sot this next to casino. One of the two flying Bald Eagles goes back to the sand bar and joins the third. The one playing in the water is making like a duck. :)

This was shot next to casino. I noticed the one Bald Eagle in the river and two others in the air. I tracked the one adult and there's a glimpse of a second Bald Eagle in the air. The one that I track circles and spars with the Bald Eagle in the river. The flying Bald Eagle hit the other twice. In another video, it comes back and the two spend time in the river.

I shot this on the west side of the river close to 21st bridge. I noticed this bird by the song it was singing and the red/brown color. It took me a while to determine the species. Only the male sings.

I shot this clip on the pedestrian trail across from PSO. This old tree was saved and this young Bald Eagle likes the view. Lot's of walkers stopping to see the Eagle perched.

This was shot close to the pedestrian trail around 35th and Riverside Dr. Seeing two is always a sight and many walkers stopped to observe. Got to meet several walkers and hope they enjoy this video.

I shot this at around 35th and Riverside Dr next the the new courts. I first thought it was a Turkey Vulture, but beak was not red. As people passed I found out this young Bald Eagle and it's sibling hand out here and in the river bed. I was surprised when the sibling flew in. I' got just a short bit of the incoming. That's why I slowed it and freeze framed.

Shot next to Newblock trial across the concrete canal next to the baseball field. The Mississippi Kites show up around 9:00 Am. This was my 3rd try at videoing this beautiful raptor. I switched from the canon R6M2 camera to my R7 w the same RF 100-500mm. The extra focal length finally gave me enough to crop pieces at 25% speed. At least there is enough to identify the bird. This was shot off the Newblock trail next to the baseball field. I rode off the trail to other side of concrete storm water canal to get closer to birds. I saw this Northern Flicker taking a drink and it ended up getting a nice bath.

Taken at Newblock Trail next to Charles Page Blvd. The male would fly around catching food and bringing it to the female. Couldn't get a shot of it catching a bug, but will try next time. Will have to zoom out for that shot.
