Thanks so much! Greatly appreciated
Aaaaaaahhhhhhh
I have been using the e37SD for the past 4 years - mainly for espresso and cezva. I like the grinding quality. On the negative side, you can't immediately pour the entire dose of beans (for me it's 22 grams) into the coffee grinder - it can jam burrs. This was revealed practically in the first days of use. I thought the engine was defective and contacted Ceado. The manufacturer's representative told me that this was normal, and that in order not to jam the coffee grinder, I should add my dose of beans in small portions. Amazingly...
Doing it this way, then you don't need the sock. Just pass it though a strainer.
I can see both ways working. Just got back from CR and was told to put coffee in bag then pour the water over it. I can see this method also working. I'm sure to each their own.
I’ve had this is my kitchen for so long and never touched it
Do you still recommend the Silvia
how much grams of it did you put.
From memory as this video was 5years ago, around 20g
Protip from a Costa Rican, pour the hot water considerably slowly while you stir the moisturized coffee powder on the sock with a spoon. Do it with patience and notice the difference on the notes of the coffe. Also don't use insanely hot water, just boiling but not too much
Great advice thanks joules
I bought a Ceado E37J coffee grinder, immediately opened it to look at the burrs and saw chips on the cutting edges of the burrs, contacted Ceado and did not receive an answer, that is, the stated 3-year warranty does not work. I do not recommend this company's products.
That’s a real shame, can you contact the retailer on this? Hope you get it sorted
I took 4 photos and circled the chips on the cutting edges in red, described the problem and sent it to the seller - the seller answered that such chips are on all the burres of his coffee grinders and that this is normal. There are chips on the cutting edges that will be not cutting coffee beans and gaps of up to 0.3 mm are formed, and Ceado announced gaps of 0.04 mm. Ceado customer service simply did not answer me- no any reaction at all. I do not recommend the products of this company.@@coffeeandproperty
@@coffeeandproperty I also immediately had chips of burrs on the beans. The manufacturer's representative replied that this is normal, as well as the fact that the coffee grinder can jam if you pour 20 grams of beans at once.
You have the only real review with audio, and in English, that I have found on this product. Thanks for sharing, I just bought one and look forward to using it.
Glad it helped Scott!
How often do you change sac cloth? Do you just rinse it out and let it air dry after each use . I can taste the sac cloth in my coffee after using it for a week
So I actually got a few when I fought it so I generally swap them each day, you probably don’t need to I’m sure, but I make sure I always have a spare. It can be tricky to get rid of the canvas taste, that should hopefully go after time… if anyone has any good tips for this please leave a comment
Traditionally, you need to prime the 'sock' first by adding a spoonful of ground coffee to a pan of cold water and bring to the boil for about 30 mins or so. This should get rid of the taste. You need to wet the sock before each use with some warm water. Then usually ground coffee is put straight into sock, about two cucharitas or teaspoons per person - add a little water to wet the grounds and then discard the first little bit of coffee that drips through. Finally, slowly add water bit by bit until the desired amount is brewed.
The problem i have with a business model like Batch is if we are being honest they are mostly selecting coffees from companies that offer them the best deals. Rather than selecting the best. They are basically a middleman after all. I'm not saying they don't select good coffees they most probably do but i think it's probably a bit disingenous if they claim they are selecting on quality alone. That isn't how a business like that would opperate.
Yeah it is an interesting point! I guess like with all businesses the bottom line is imperative, especially now with costs rising! I really liked this box but I do very much get your point!
@@coffeeandproperty I was looking at some of their reviews on their site. I thought it was somewhat ironically amusing that one of them is for "Kickback Coffee Roasters" 😄
@@Tass... haha brilliant!!
So this videos about you going on holiday n things you take ?? Why can’t people just get to the point
It was a great holiday!
LOL the Ceado is classes above the Niche..
How are you liking it after having it for 1 year? I’m thinking about getting one to add to my current Niche + C40 grinder collection
I still love the daily ritual of making coffee with it although the size can be a little inconvenient but it’s awesome! You never take the bellows for granted that’s for sure
cor blimey!
Can I say, espresso is for me if I like the taste of dark roasted coffee & strong coffee smell.
You could absolutely make longer drinks from a good espresso, will give you a nice flavour and aroma
Thanks for the great revieuw.
That music......
Great video, thanks for sharing! One question though, why melitta style filters pictured with the v60? 🤔
After a year of using the W1 I think it's the best pour over tool I've used in over 10 years of pour over making. I also have the Hario v60 and a Chemex. Both of those work well too but the Hario really needs its specialized filter to shine and the Chemex needs a larger grind size so makes a smoother cup of coffee. I prefer a richer more espresso like cup and can achieve that easily with the W1 and it not dependent on specialized filters. I've been using 2 paper basket filters in the W1 as I'd run out of the v60 filters and they work great. I just wet them and arrange them in the filter, add the coffee and then start the pouring over. In fact I'd say its nearly impossible to over extract with the W1. Lost the ring a while ago but it's not critical to the process. A spoon or butter knife works well too.
Will a 250ml pour-over made with 16 grams of coffee and a 60ml espresso made with 16 grams of coffee yield the same caffeine content? Can’t find an answer for this anywhere
It’s funny… it’s actually the water that ultimately makes a higher caffeine coffee. A short espresso won’t buzz the same way a long drink will (mostly)
And that's a video of how it is NOT made in Costa Rica
Depends where you go I guess
Great review. But has the grinder been cleaned before? Or is it new? Unless so you can not be fully sure that your 18 grams are fully fresh 18grams and not 16 grams fresh coffee and 2 grams of 3 days ago coffee
Totally fair point. I have an E37S (not the SD), and I test it every time I clean it. From clean, it keeps ~2 grams (after brushing stuff out from the chute). In normal use, dose consistency is excellent (+/- 0.2 grams), but there is a little bit of exchange in that. Probably less if I had bellows on it.
Thnx.
Espresso isn’t made with steam. The machines use a pump for the pressure and a boiler or heat exchanger to get the water at the correct temperature.
You brushed out the outlet chute. Is that a fair thing to do for a zero retention test?
Hi. Can u transform e37s fo sd? If you just change the hopper for this?
If you are able to buy the bellows then I believe this could work, although the bellows do not screw in, they sit on the top
The burrs on the SD are unique for the e37 range. They're the only coated burrs allowing for RDT use (spraying with water). The burrs in the other machines are steel and will corrode/rust.
There are a few differences in addition to the bellows - the burrs are coated, the motor is set to a lower rpm in the SD and the 'mushroom' at the top of the motor shaft is shaped differently. This said, I have an E37S and I get the same dose consistency (retention is not zero... whether in the 'S' or in the 'SD', there are about 2-3 grams of old coffee in there).
You didn't do a demonstration!
Thanks for the comments
Newsflash: He's definitely not an alchemist. Who knew? (Actually, the lack of an alembic in his kitchen is a giveaway.)
Good point! Thanks for the comment
Hi I had tthe Ceado e37S but it was broken in transport, so i bought the Niche. If I want to upgrade to the e37SD I would like to know the taste difference,. Does the SD taste much better???
It’s interesting, I would say the niche is most versatile, but the e37sd has more fine tuning. Amazing for espresso. It’s tricky, to me the taste wasn’t mountains different if I’m honest, but the 37 was perfect for espresso
@@coffeeandproperty I drink black espresso
@@yoramdiamand the e37sd is awesome for espresso as it is so precise, flavour profile gains in my opinion and to my palette are marginal gains
@@coffeeandproperty Thanks
Can I reheat my coffe in the microwave?
I have never tried doing that, although I have put the cup in the dishwasher and it’s been ok. I would suggest that you remove any of the removable components before doing so, if you were to try it. If you need something to keep your water hot throughout the day, you can also look at hydroflask as I have been able to keep water hot/very warm for around 10hours with one of those
Hi I have questions I have same grinder, and when I rotate for coarser the wheel move upon the right side around 1-2mm and when go to finer go down back.Did u have this problem?
Ah interesting, it may well be that has not gone on perfectly straight, try removing the wheel, use your brush to clear any build up (if any) and make sure the washer is flat and then retread, that should sort it!
@@coffeeandproperty I try and type what happen.Thank you for time!
@@coffeeandproperty make a video about this i don't know this is a problem or not for is problem because cant find real "0" ua-cam.com/video/hmb_HYEpNjE/v-deo.html
Had mine for 3 months and getting about 1-2g of ground coffee stuck up the chute that I need to bang out. Am sure this didn’t happens when new. I grind for V60 on setting 40-50. Also seeing an amount of grinds spluttering out of chute and coating the body rather than ending up in stainless cup. Anyone else seeing this?
Yeah mine does this a touch, I think it’s a bit of static that makes it stick, that’s what the brush is for though and really helps get those bits out. I give mine a full brush out every few months and the retention inside the grinder is negligible, but definitely use the brush on the chute
Niche zero is the biggest pain on my ass to try and actually buy tho...it's the most retarded website I've ever visited..it's almost like they don't wanna sell those things
I can pass on your details to them if that helps you out?
@@coffeeandproperty I gotta be honest I'm really interested in the E37sd..I've seen you can get the latest version in white. Read loads of reviews on this and some people say it's very inconsistent regards extraction but as I understand any single dose machine I'd want to use a WDT and leveller before tamping .. What's your thoughts on an E37sd as a home use grinder? Thanks for reply
I really like it! I think it’s two biggest assets are the fact that using the spray bottle gives additional support is brilliant and also the bellows are a wonderful feature. It’s a touch more fiddley than the niche but it’s a very very cool grinder. It feels solid too! Just make sure you have enough kitchen worktop real estate to fit it in with the coffee machine haha
@@coffeeandproperty out if interest the only place I can find in the UK that stocks the white one is Caffe Italia....do you work for them?if not there's some other dude who's a dead ringer showboating an E37sd on one of their videos lol!
@@SanMartan yes that is also me haha! Caffè Italia can sort you out with one of those, you can use that video as a good gauge on how to get it to where you need it to be too!
Element not filament. Filament is a fine resistive wire that is designed to produce light. Element is a thick resistive wire designed to produce heat. Having a filament would probably add days to the warm up! Worth mentioning that the new frame is apparently black painted stainless steel now (no more rusty frame under the drip tray).
I really consider buying a stojo for myself, but i wonder if the White parts Will discolour over time? 🤔
That’s a good thing to be mindful of. I’ll be honest, I used mine every day up until lockdown in March and it still looks as new! The colours have not run or faded. Still really impressed by it, I keep it in the car now so that when I do go to the office I have it to hand
great review! was tossing between this & a gaggia. think i'll go with this one
Thanks eve so much David! It’s a tough choice between the two but I do think it’s money well spent, such a great bit of kit
For God's sake man, get to the point!
I do have a habit for going on too much, thanks for bringing it up
@@coffeeandproperty As do I. Usually half of what I've written is sufficient. Anyway, just ordered an W1, Cheers!
I’m glad I am in good company haha! Let me know how you get on with the w1, it’s great fun

I really like lalico they do some great roasts! The Indonesian one is brilliant, also the Mexican roast is a great alternative too

Will you PLEASE get rid of the background music?
In future videos I will
why do coffee people use the same, irritating, distracting, rubbish music?
What would sound better?
Thought Jason Statham was doing a coffee grinder review for a second.
He was... oh wait that was a different review... damn!
Congrats on the 500 subs mate... you'll smash that 1k next year.
Thanks ever so much mate! slowly getting there now haha! Hope that you are keeping well!
Received my W1 today, just made a great cup of filter coffee with it. Lovely body, great taste, and it was really quick compared to a regular filter coffee which seems to take forever to draw down.
It’s great fun isn’t it?! I have been using my one again all week, it does make a very good cup of coffee. The inverted bed does seem to reduce pressure and make a more even cup. So pleased you grabbed one!
Poor machine must've been crying making that godawful, no-crema espresso 🤣
It probably was! I’ll ask him and I’ll pass on your condolences my friend
Hi. Thanks for your review. I notice when I go to order from Batch there is no option to choose the roast. Should this concern me if I’m looking to buy coffee mainly to make espresso with?
Hi David great question, great news is, a lot of roasters now roast their beans for “omni” usage... so suitable for all brewing types. They generally roast to perfect profile for the beans rather than for the use, not everyone does, but a lot do now. This means that you could use batch for espresso as well as pour over
COFFEEwithGPA Ah, I never thought of that, roasting for the bean rather than usage. That’s helpful, thanks for taking the time to respond. 👍
@@davidking258 no problem at all! glad to offer support!
