Thank you!!! Yup! Im very fortunate and thankful to receive the amount i did. I think part of that reason was that my family is pretty low income so i got priority in the merit scholarships that were being given out. Lil insider info but from what ive heard from other accd students is that even if your portfolio shows really good merit, if your income bracket is on the higher side, you most likely arent going to get some.... So if you are applying, dont be discouraged if you dont get a lot of merit scholarship because you may fit the criteria but just arent prioritized depending on the other applying students income bracket if that makes sense👌

yeaa art center pretty specific about their requirements since they get a lot of admissions so they are trying to get eh best of the best of your work that also shows what you really love <3 DW I also think mine were pretty rough especially compared to some of my goated classmates but variety is really something they look for! Both in subject manner and in materials (though ik some kids who got in with pure digital lol) But mostly put stuff in that your passionate about and shows a diverse skill set. As for scholarships, i wasnt able to apply for much since i took a gap year and i was required to be enrolled in a school while applying to most unfortunately :'(( So I was pretty lucky to afford the tuition with the amount of scholarship art center gave me off the bat when applying plus the housing stipend which you usually get for the first 2 terms. That being said, when you do get accepted into accd, they have a portfolio review each year and you def should apply for them. Based on your portfolio they give you additional scholarship money which can be up to the thousands (but increases if upper term) Honestly, rather than scholarships, try doing commissions for people! That way you can keep creating for your portfolio, you get experience on the field, and you make money!! GL my dude <3

Oh lol actually your not the first to ask for a part 2. On my tumblr, someone asked me to do a part 2 but lil me thought oh ill just do a quick comic instead of an animatic but then it spiraled out of control and turned into what is now 5 chapter saga :"") that im having trouble finishing due to me wanting to do more accurate research and lack of time with college starting. So my tumblr technically has the part 2 but it is unfinished for now :') Thank you for your kind words and appreciation for my animatics!!

*cracks knuckles* ok let me try to help you my friend from my research of Art Center (tho do note i did the most research into entertainment majors/tracks and not fine arts sorry) So if your art is more stronger in fine arts and you do want to try illustration major, theres specifically a "Fine Art Painting Track." Art Center is a bit different form other art schools in that there are specific tracks for each major and you basically apply to a major and you have until 3rd term to pick a track, but if you want to change majors then you'll need to reapply. From what I've heard since Illustration is such a big major with multiple tracks, it is much easier to get into than the Entertainment Design major (which includes the concept and animation tracks, also fun fact: I believe the concept track is the hardest to get accepted into lol). If you mean competitive in terms of student mentality, then know that illustration students are pretty friendly to one another, at least thats what ive seen from the Accd discord. The teachers are stricter in Entertainment major, but Illustration Majors have more workload overall. On the topic of your art style being more fine artsy than cartoonish, then thats totally fine! My portfolio was more "cartoonish" because I applied for the Entertainment track, but there is a Fine Arts Painting track (though I believe its mainly just a lot of painting) which might fit your style more (?) I think when looking at my peers portfolios, we all had kinda different art styles with varying degrees of technical skills, so I think you having a different art style is fine, but do consider looking at alumni's work or accepted portfolios to understand which Illustration Track suits your art style the most in order to get classes that really play to your strengths. Btw Art Center also provides an Illustration Track as a Fine Arts major too! I dont know much about the Fine Arts Major unfortunately, but that is an option to consider. And if you are still having more doubts about whether you'll get in, consider contacting an admission counselor since they can look at your portfolio so far and see what your strengths are and guide you to the best major and track; they can also help build your portfolio to get into a specific major/track. After having a couple meetings with my admission counselor, she finally approved my portfolio and told me when I was ready to submit so that relieved a lot of stress from me. I will also end off my lil info dump by saying that Art Center has the reputation of being a "boot camp" for art, so expect a good layer of competitiveness naturally and a super intensive workload with what ive heard to be somewhat strict teachers. You do have a very very high chance of getting a job when graduating Art Center and making powerful connections, so I think it truly is worth it in the end and its located on the outskirts of LA in Pasadena (so away from bustling traffic ugliness of LA but still near many art companies/industries)

@@leina9212 omg that’s a lot of info thanks!! I’ve realized the entertainment arts track appeals more to me than the fine arts one, even though I’m more experienced in that area. I actually don’t like painting 💀 I prefer graphite or color pencils. About the overall environment, I’ve heard it’s quite toxic in animation and concept so I’m kinda scared about that in illustration, anyways I don’t mind having a heavy workload. I’m from Mexico and over here the art industry is almost nonexistent 😭 where I’m studying, it’s mostly 3D modeling and animation which I don’t love, plus my classes end at 7pm. Overall I’ve been procrastinating a lot and I’ve never experienced a moment where I felt extremely happy in my university 🥲 I don’t know if I have enough time to apply this fall, but I’ll try to do my best 😵‍💫

@@R1209-s7y Art center has rolling admissions so they accept students anytime but priority deadlines end around November i think so i think youll have time if you work on it now! Also ik you said you hate classes that end around 7pm but just to inform you some classes at art center also end around 7pm 💀 in first term, accd usually has your classes preplanned so its a lil difficult to have it changed so beware. You could also get classes possibly on Saturdays so thats a lil unfortunate...

@@R1209-s7y also yea concept can be quite toxic sometimes and animation students can be a lil antisocial but so far my illustration peers are super nice!! If you do continue to go down the Illustration entertainment route, then know the first 3 terms will be mostly traditional art and focused on getting down the fundamentals but then 4th term on itll be mainly focused on your track and and more digital art orientated. In fact i think if you have a specific career in mind, then you can go even more class specific into that like doing storyboard class route or visdev route or book illustration route 😊 im happy to help and give info!!
