For less than $200, you can achieve better quality work using a wet polisher. With it, you can smooth the back of your glass, remove fiber paper residue and also finish your edges. I created this video with the UA-cam Video Editor (ua-cam.com/users/editor)

You don't have the clamps themselves attached to the machine to hold things down in any way? I use those clamps on a regular basis and they don't seem as if they would have enough weight to keep the glass from moving.
No, the clamps are only attached to the glass. The long ends of the clamps are on opposite sides. It makes a horizontal brace or leg that way.
