12th Man QB Tribute to George Woodard
Words can’t express what George Woodard meant to our football team and to our wishbone offense. Neither would’ve come close to becoming as good as they were without Big Woo. George alone is what made the Aggie Wishbone go, end of story, the first option and often the only option.
A sweetheart of a guy in real life, loved and certainly respected by all, and I LOVE Big George.
The 1976 locker room picture of us featured in the video was taken following the second Aggie win inside Texas’ Memorial Stadium in its 55 years of existence - it was also A&M’s very first televised win in Austin. It was the most emotional game result for Aggie Nation that one could imagine. Many tears were shed that night across the stadium and for the first time in Aggie (and Longhorn) homes everywhere.
George would then tie the Sun Bowl record with three touchdowns in a big win over Florida, securing A&M’s first back-to-back 10-win seasons in program history. George was the relentless starting fullback in both.
The ‘76 team remains the only Aggie football team that’s won in Austin, won its bowl game, and finished Top 10 in the final AP rankings.
George was voted 1st-Team All-SWC Fullback in 1976 after winning AP Freshman of the Year in ‘75. George and I were two of college football’s first four recipients of the Freshman of the Year Award. In ‘76, the outstanding Curtis Dickey would join us in that distinction.
A portion of the video is from the all-time highest-scoring game in SWC history, a 57-34 win over Rice when All-America quarterback Tommy Kramer threw 60 passes at us.
We, on the other hand, ran the ball 78 times for 526 yards in our wishbone triple option - to date the most carries and greatest rushing total in the history of Kyle Field.
My friend and teammate, rest easy. What a gift you were to us all, in every sense, a one of a kind. Our deepest condolences to family and friends. 🫡🙌🏽💔✌️

George Woodard 1977 Bluebonnet Bowl Highlights
Переглядів 749Місяць тому
Sharing some highlights of George’s last game prior to his catastrophic leg injury the following summer while playing softball. This clip is from the 1977 New Year’s Eve Bluebonnet Bowl, the third bowl game for A&M in his three years as starting fullback, including his final two touchdowns and his final play as he literally punished the Southern Cal defense throughout. There’s no doubt that Woo...

Because 3-year-old Duke was microchipped and registered as a pup he was reunited with his original owners after going missing from his front yard on Christmas Eve of 2013. Over 2 years later, he wandered into our yard out in the country some 350 miles away. A trip to the vet and a phone call later, and his family was excitedly on their way to get him. This is their reunion. God bless 'em!

1974 was the year Winning became a Tradition at Texas A&M, as Aggie football teams had won only 53 games in their previous 17 seasons. They would win 36 games over the next 4 years and enlarge their stadium by 50% capacity within the next decade.

The Uniques - All These Things
Переглядів 248 тис.14 років тому
Written in 1962 by Art Neville (available on UA-cam) recorded on the single with "Come Back Love," this is the 1966 version by the Uniques, later a No. 1 song recorded solo by Joe Stampley in 1976 when he earned "Billboard's Single Artist of the Year" - this version is the great rendition from the 60's of an amazing song. "The touch of your lips, next to mine, gets me excited, makes me feel fin...

This is for all who have lost their loved ones and all who miss him - The Devil's Beaten Down by Micah Sims
This team was eerily similar to the more recent 2012 squad. Both started a bit slow and finished strong with identical 10-2 records. Both won their bowl game easily. Both finished in the Top 10. The 1976 team changed to David Walker at QB after the second loss and then went on a roll. It would be interesting to compare the two teams position by position. Obviously Johnny Football was a generational talent and would overshadow everyone else. But I would assert that the 1976 team had more overall talent. Lester Hayes had 14 interceptions that year. Tony Franklin kicked several 60+ yard field goals. The backfield featured George Woodard and Curtis Dickey. And the 1976 defense had an abundance of talent.
Memories where made by the song long ago ❤❤ and I was just thinking of you ❤❤❤❤❤lol ❤❤❤❤
I grew with the Unquie
Beautiful song, reminds me of My sister
Gosh, this song so reminds me of high school - loved it then and still do.
Shake that ass
Nobody can sing it like them!!!!!
Amazing song 🎵 thanks for sharing 👍
Great players came out of Sulphur
Still listening February 2023.
It was orginally recorded in 1962 by Art Neville but it was not written by him.
It was written by Allen Toussaint of New Orleans.
This is absolutely the greatest version of this beautiful song.
One of the great terrible singers
This is one off my favorite Willie Nelson album...
This slow version is the best, 16 years old Tyler Texas
Love this song!
Grew up listening to this music my dad used to listen, 34 years old gives me chills, wish I had a girl that loved this music as much as I do!
I used to go to fats city in Kilgore tx in 1966 to listen to joe stamply. Brings back many good memories. I had a 1965 mustang gt.
I knew this music just yesterday, it was great music i ever to listened to.
I am 65, how did i miss this beautiful song, thanks for sharing!
Omg love this song cost me 2 million dollars 💵 still hooked
Sounds like Elvis, without the cheeseburgers, cooooooooooool.
Too bad they did not show the UH game at Rice stadium. I was there for that game. UH’s defense was incredible. Woodard was stupidly used as a decoy all night. The few times he did get the ball, he got stuffed.
Me to..UH 21 A&M 10!!
Yes, they didn’t show all the games-excluded the losses.
For Andrine and Magnar !
The touch of your lips next to mine Gets me excited, makes me feel fine I've got it bad but that's all right Long as you're near me every night Your love so warm and tender Your thrill is so divine It is all these things that make you mine If you would leave me, I surely would die When you started to go, I started to cry I've got it bad but that's all right Long as you're near me every night Your love so warm and tender Your thrill is so divine It is all these things that make you mine If you would leave me, I surely would die When you started to go, I started to cry I've got it bad but that's all right Long as you're near me every night Your love so warm and tender Your thrill is so divine It is all these things that make you mine
Most Romantic song ever written in my opinion.
This is too pretty for words! How could you not like this.
This was my senior year at A&M. the story was that a fellow coach was asking the Florida coach on advice about which bowl invitation to accept, and the Florida coach told him that he didn't want to play Texas A&M, then his team ended up playing them.
Joe stampley did good on this song also
This version was the best!!!
I absolutely love this song
we were unique. We did all of this after the failure of the great players on the '75 team!
I LOVE THIS SONG!!! So many memories.
First heard this song when my first marriage was clearly breaking up. Deep inside, I felt relief, but didn't want to admit to myself. Willie's song made me feel less guilty about "feelin' a little better".
I remember Joe , and the Uniques back in the early 70's as a young teenager. Beautiful bittersweet memories, still get goosebumps listening. This song was big back in East Texas , my birthplace. Its still just as beautiful as the Spanish moss , the glistening sunsets on the Gulf, and the fireflies flickering in that last evening light as the embers of the camp fire die .Love you Joe !
I thought those stripes were an Adidas invention. I didn't know that they had 'em at A&M in the 1970's. I guess it was Emory Bellard that brought them to Mississippi State in the 1980's!
Monroe, Louisiana all that time ago
The lead tenor Vaughnterrol Lockette is now homeless in the streets of NY unfortunately but here is his story in case anyone cares 🙏🏼: instagram.com/p/B5lTR_vHedT/?igshid=12wh3ny9bvbq2
Allen Toussaint WROTE this song, credited to his mom under her maiden name Naomi Neville (no relation to the artist).
Grady Lark Knew Both Allen Tousant, Art Neval & Joe Stamply......GOD Bless Them All.
I saw them several times at the ShinDig club on the Bossier City Strip. Loved hitting the Strip on Saturday night 🎶🍾
Oh to be young and go back to that time!
I've been there and done that. I lived in kilgore tx. Ment good times at the shindig.
Progressive Men's club in Shreveport
Who else is hear from the humans of New York post about one of the members bring homeless
here after Hony?
Bought the 45 in 1966.. I may still have that 45...great tune.. Joe did a country version in 76'..I played that on my morning radio show back in 76' in Hartford, CT...
I LOVE THE UNIQUES
It always rained when Ags played Baylor
This is the version with a background string section that bubbled under Billboard's Hot 100 in September 1970. The basic track, minus the strings, is found on the band's 1966 debut lp, "Uniquely Yours." A shortened version that plays 2:45 was released as a single in summer 1966 that peaked in Billboard at #99.
I ordered the vinyl 45 to hear the original without the stupid strings in the background. Probably the most romantic song I can remember when I was 16 in '69. My favorite year too.
Musta been before he blew the hole in his Martin!
The hole in the Martin guitar has been there since 73' or 74'...
Reminds me of my high school days, oh the memories
Olga Korbut reference @9:55 🤣
