metallica's very first music video
Cliff Bernstein
"uhm" - Lars Ulrich
James said he seen that movie when he was a kid. Who’s lying lol
It was Cliffs Idea 💡
Lars Ulrich is the ONE stupid member of Metallica that destroys their sound and reputation. He is the Mike Love of Metallica.
What would I search up to get like interviews and stuff like this? Cuz I've only seen clips
I have no mouth and I must scream.
The person on the phone calling was Jason, asking how the bass was sounding in the mix.
😂
Was the phone ringing planned? Because that’s a major theme of the book in the beginning! So crazy.
What does a skull with vampire fangs on the body of a children's soft toy wrapped in toilet paper have to do with the tragic story of a WWI soldier? If this is an allegory, it is very stupid.
He's such a pretentious ass.
She has pretty hair but should consider a face waxing
My gosh how old (young) is lars here?
I’ve never heard Lar’s sound so Danish, he barely sounds American here, crazy!
He did have a name, it was Joe
The film is free to view on UA-cam.
I like the black and white filming technique with the sunlight coming through the window. Like it came from the deep web.
Dark stuff
Lars' laugh is gold
I can't remember anything Can't tell if this is true or dream Deep down inside I feel to scream This terrible silence stops me Now that the war is through with me I'm waking up, I cannot see That there's not much left of me Nothing is real but pain now Hold my breath as I wish for death Oh, please God, wake me Back in the womb, it's much too real In pumps life that I must feel But can't look forward to reveal Look to the time when I'll live Fed through the tube that sticks in me Just like a wartime novelty Tied to machines that make me be Cut this life off from me Hold my breath as I wish for death Oh, please God, wake me Now the world is gone, I'm just one Oh, God, help me Hold my breath as I wish for death Oh, please God, help me Darkness imprisoning me All that I see, absolute horror I cannot live, I cannot die Trapped in myself Body, my holding cell Landmine has taken my sight Taken my speech, taken my hearing Taken my arms, taken my legs, taken my soul Left me with life in hell
0:34 WAS THAT THE FALL OF 87???
Media Censorship and suppressed arguments
I HAD to watch this movie soon as i could find it waaaay back in the day. Love the idea!
I love when the phone rang
After reading this book in 2006, I realized that THIS SONG is epic a.f. and had to listen to it and watch the video. A badass tip-of-the-hat to a classic! Badass dudes.
Crazy
I am literally just here for the ‘ohms’ 😍😍😍😍
KEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP THE HOMEFIREEEEEES BURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRNINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
The characters name in the book & movie is Joe (not Johnny). I believe Johnny stands for all the men who went to war. I’m not 100% sure but that’s my interpretation. Johnny Got His Gun is an incredible book and so is the movie! This song totally does it justice!! 🖤
I’d say that’s a good interpretation, they got the title from the phrase used to recruit soldiers “Johnny come get your gun.” The title is implying that he went and “got his gun,” even though he’s an amputee and is suffering he has still succeeded in getting his gun. Kind of criticizing how the government doesn’t care as long about the suffering and deaths as long as they served their purpose in the war
I read that book in the 9th grade, pretty wild.
This is has to be one of the darkest, most eerie thrash videos simply because it's so stripped down and talking about the worst situation a person could be in. To be dead but also alive, to be able to think but be devoid of other senses. "All that I see, absolute horror".
Glad it’s just Lars’ interview and doesn’t follow on with the long-play video for One 😂 it scared the swinging-fuck out of me when I was young when my brother would put the VHS of the One single on way back then 😂still does
I have a long hair now but plan on cutting it.but before i cut it all short,i plan to have a mullet similar to Lars.but i dont think mullet is a welcome sight at this era.people might think i look funny..
Dude they made it on their own basically and honestly I think it’s one of the best songs/ videos I’ve ever heard/seen
Lars might be related to Bam Margera
3:18 That was his mom calling just to see if her baby was alright. But she was turned away...
That movie was meant to be a metal song🤟
Lars was still such a dickhead back then.
Estoy e n a m o r a d a.😍
Bruh why does everyone hate Lars, he’s Metallica’s co-founder
Mullets don’t belong in metal, period
Now his hair is gone he has just one, oh god help him
Nice
Lol... hillarious
Hold his breath as he wishes for hair
he looks exactly like Roger Taylor
You have got to remember that the main reason Metallica did not make music videos was because back then, everything was either so contrived and fake, or it was just bands playing live (which wouldn't do their live shows justice, no pun intended) or pretending to play to a tape. So that's why they were anti-video: there just wasn't anything that really appealed to them. But yes, of course they did a number of crap videos later. But this video is arguably the greatest metal music video ever.
Imma be honest i really like One's music video, but... I have to say that The Unforgiven had such a matching video compared to the tone and feel of the song. It dark and weird and it lifts up the story even more. I ussually don't care for music videos too much but The Unforgiven is one of the few songs i actually prefer to watch the music video
@@EmilForsberg_GRYBO "The Unforgiven" definitely has a good video.
@@Banana_Split_Cream_Buns well jeash that only took you 3 years to notice ey
Stewie griffin had hair?
Wow, he still had a Danish accent back in 87. Oddly enough it's not that far off from the Swede in the departure scene with Jesus on the train.
The book was published September 3rd 1939 two days after the start of WW2 when Germany invaded Poland. And no the main characters name isn’t Johnny, it’s Joe Bonham. The title of the book was inspired by the saying “Johnny get your gun!”, which was a common recruiting slogan during the late 19th and early 20th century in the US. the 1971 movie wasn’t a huge hit because Dalton Trumbo had been blacklisted by Hollywood in 1950 and jailed for 11 months because of his affiliation with the Communist Party in America. Prior to his arrest and blacklisting he was actually Hollywood’s top screenwriter for a time. A movie came out about it in 2015 starring Bryan Cranston as Trumbo. The movie itself is called Trumbo, it’s a great movie
The story of that song still haunts me. Just the fact that. This soldier was fighting in the war when a air raid comes and nearly kills him now he is trapped inside himself with horrible memories. Constliy souronding him.
Lars is only one True Original Metallica member, he never been in any other band. Work for Metallica is pretty much all he ever done his entire life..
Yeah true
Also I wonder why
What is video tape?
Lars and that mullet
I know right
