The ultimate ecological outcome: "We shall persevere" (Ep. 3 excerpt)
This is an excerpt from the full interview, here: ua-cam.com/video/0jfa9-dC_KY/v-deo.html
Nikos Giannakis is a biologist with the University of Leeds, currently working in Greece. His graduate work was in environmental pollution control and agricultural chemistry, and his PhD was on soil microbiology. His national service requirement in Greece led to environmental consulting including impact assessment. Currently he is living with his wife (an architect specializing in natural building techniques) and six cats in an abandoned village in a national park in northwestern Greece. His activism focuses on defending nature from "green energy" projects and on bringing land use into the climate conversation.
Our interview hit many topics including "green energy" projects in Europe; land use as the "other leg" of climate change (besides the greenhouse effect), as highlighted by Spanish climatalogist Millán Millán; carbon reductionism in the climate change narrative; the hijacking of the environmental movement by the carbon conversation; land use and fire mitigation; the necessity to be wholistic in our relationship with nature; the all-too-material reality of the digital realm; increasingly extreme weather; conservation efforts worldwide (which Nikos is involved with); future directions for agriculture; public vs. private land; humans as keystone species in ecology; the importance of community; opportunities for young people to find new answers; the power of media to control narratives and hence public perception, and much more!

Does the seed need further processing to be consumed? From an apocolyptic survival perspective I am think thinking of harvesting wall barley and wild oat, but in survival calorithic enegy is everything. So we have to think least amount of energy for the meal. So if I can consume the seed by boiling/frying ect I will, but I know for bread the outer shell has to be removed or would you just grind the seed as it is even if the flour is a bit grainy. Thanks Aidan
The great thing about this Barley variety is that it is hull-less and can be prepared for eating without further processing! There are also hull-less oats available through seed companies. Wild Oats have a hull, so they need to be threshed and winnowed, which adds more work.
@@RadioFreeSunroot What about wall barley? I collected a load of wall barley and what I believed to be wild oats the other day, but because I wasn't sure I had a wild oat I threw them away. What is your knowledge of wild oats? I want to try send a photo to someone to absolutely confirm that is what I have and not false oat grass which is also very common around where i live. Thankyou Aidan
Thanks for sharing 🙏
Thanks for the video! I really loved this barley harvest and processing. I was reading my Bible and I came across the word barley and I wanted to see how it looks like.
I'm glad you appreciated the video! If you're interested in other plants from the Bible, there's some great resources out there. Here's one on flowers in the Bible: www.womanofnoblecharacter.com/flowers-in-the-bible-and-their-meanings/ And this looks like a good book, and it's reasonably priced: "In the Garden: An Illustrated Guide to the Plants of the Bible" www.christianbook.com/the-garden-illustrated-guide-plants-bible/9781641234023/pd/234025
This was excellent!
hmm, not a very productive variety to start from. It looked decent enough though. I will see if I can find any accompanying content you may have. After a few years I hope that you have increased in both quantity and quality. Thank you for sharing your journey
This was in New Mexico, which is really too hot for growing barley, so no it was not very productive. I grew this same kind in Oregon a few seasons and it did much much better there.
Well that is a very significant variable that I missed. I appreciate your reply and wish you all the best in this new year. We are seeing some drastic changes in weather patterns. Which is an issue that the majority have troubles with, changes.@@RadioFreeSunroot
i usually eat barley or oatmeal for breakfast turns out most people dont. with food prices high might as well manufacture it myself.
I do
Thanks. Was reading Book of Ruth, and I wanted to get a visual image of the process. Thank you pastor Jesse
Great video! Thanks
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for sharing this. I knew the basics but good to see it in action.
Glad it was helpful!
I enjoyed this so much 💕
I'm so glad to hear that! She was very special.

🍻
Loved this, thanks for your labor.
Thanks
I read Tao's book a while back and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm glad I came across this interview. Well done and keep it up.
I just love this. I am planting some black hulless for the very first time this year. I found your video very relaxing and I can see my focus will reduce stress just in doing this process. Thank you!
Was your barley crop a success? How far apart did you plant each seed both ways?
Amazing. Praise Yah!
BLM Nevada has blindsided Nevadans and must be investigated.
for the winnowing, I wonder if a blowdryer would make it easier?
He needs at least two people and a sheet. Keep grain in middle and bounce a few times in the air. Works the best and is the old way.
yeah this is a solo method. With other people is more fun for sure, but not always possible.
I haven't tried a blow dryer but suspect it might be too forceful and blow away the seeds with the chaff. Worth trying, though. Just do it over a sheet or tarp for accidents. Also, set it for "no heat" as prolonged exposure to heat is bad for most seeds.
What an interesting and informative video! Beautiful seeds. Loved how you used the wind to your advantage. Thank you for sharing
I am a Democrat. But I know the truth about climate change. Al Gore actually won the 2000 election but called Bush and told him he did not want the presidency because he believed that he could sell a carbon tax idea and he would become a billionaire Al Gore is still trying to sell his carbon tax idea. Hopefully it will never get approved with the republicans against it. There is nothing anyone can do about climate change. It is a normal Earth cycle. it. It is a weather phenomena that occurs every 10,000 years on average. The Earth has cycled through cold and hot cycles from the beginning of Earth's history. It will come to pass that the Sahara will become a tropical jungle and the Amazon jungle will become a desert. This will continue until the Earth is swallowed up by the Sun. The Artic Ice and Antarctic Ice Caps were formed from the hot weather events. You have to have heat in order to have Ice Caps. The last rain event caused the Earth to tilt 45 degrees placing the normally tropical areas of the Earth in the present Artic and Antarctic regions Bt Semper Defendere US Constitutione Out US Military Retired Post Script (PS) The Antarctic Ocean completely surrounds Antarctica and is where Atlantis existed before the Earths surface shifted 45 degrees.
I just started listening to this interview and felt compelled to comment. You are delving right into one of the most direct and conscious conversations I've heard. This should have thousands of views instead of the handful that appear here. Looking forward to listening to the entire discourse. Thank you!!
So glad you appreciated it. Thanks for saying so!
I like it n I like the clips
What a beautiful gathering your work is beautiful true and thru. Love it thanks for putting this together ❤
When does he think a majority of people will be dead due to climate change?
great design tips!
We need more RFS!
Thanks for the video man! Looking for more info for debating my friends.
Hey so I've got some barley that I planted in earlyish spring. I have a lady who is in charge of the community gardens telling me it's ready to harvest but it's def not dry yet like yours is. I also don't think she has any experience with grains. Is she wrong here? It's still green.
It's now on Amazon: www.amazon.com/Capitalism-Ventilator-Impact-COVID-19-China/dp/0895671964
How long is the period between the flowering stage to harvest please?
Hey Brother. Really good overveiw of Fin by a wonderful cast of characters

There’s kwowledge and there’s wisdom...
thanks for another great episode!
So sad that speaking anything positive about China has become so politically incorrect. If anything and everything they do in China is so wrong, why should we in the west worry about the rise of China?! Can't wait to see America wake up and do what's right, instead of doing the opposite of what China does.
Thanks for the censorship that brings my attention to this book.
Cool. I hope next year's crop will be shown in a video. Good stuff.
More great content!
