strange to see this considering deftones and type o- are my two favorite bands honestly, i see both perspectives honestly, type o- was the closer and they should have been able to play out the festival. but the members of deftones had lost a friend and weren't handling their grievances well. i hope they're all on good terms these days

It started with people starting fires in the grass, burning their shoes. Then they stopped serving beer because the crowd was getting agitated. Then they started cutting off Deftones mics. This is when he'll broke loose.

When I was young watching this I thought they were terrible live. Now that I'm older I realized this was the fault of whoever was mixing this on the soundboard. The guitars and bass were way too low and the vocal way too high.

Came back for a visit in 2022.

Type O negative is just kinda meh for me, I would have bailed after Deftones if I was even old enough to have been there. That doesn’t mean I think it was cool of Chino to help spark a riot though which didn’t let Type O even perform.

deftones has the best live show, they are better live than in the studio!

I was 26 when I was at this show. I fucking despise the Deftones for inciting the riot. I was there to see Type O Negative and waited all Goddamn day to see them sitting through all those shitty no name opening acts. My girl and and I with our friends got out before the tear gas was shot onto the lawn. I was happy to hear that Chino got his ass beat when Type O Negative caught them at the bar after the shit show. I'll never get to see Type O with Peter and this is why I hate the Deftones. That shitty band should have never been booked on the same bill. Bunch of clowns.

This was my first concert. Just turned 16 that year and finally able to drive up to Phoenix and Tucson to start going to shows. My friend and I got up on stage during the madness, and I remember looking out and around at all the people going crazy, rushing the stage, climbing up the PA and up into the rafters, grabbing the mics and stands, some getting tackled and fighting with security, seats and tents destroyed, the lawn on fire, the riot police showing up... My teenaged brain figured that all concerts were gonna be as insane and chaotic as this, lol, and I was hooked on going to shows ever after. Crazy cool memories.

This was the best concert ever!!! It was most def not a heavy metal concert. It was the first concert (that I actually wanted to go to) that my parents let me attend alone. When the riot squad came out and started hosing us with pepper spray, we ran to a stand selling Italian ice and took those ices to hold on our eyes. We wanted to buy them, but no one was there to take our money and it had been mostly cleaned out. If that was your stand, HMU, I have a $10 I’ve been sitting on for over 20 years that’s meant to go in your pocket!

We were there, in the pit. I was so pumped to see Deftones, Bored had been playing on 98KUPD for a little while and loved it. Then the fires started in the lawn crowd behind us, "fans" were going crazy destroying anything they could and rushing the stage. The best part of the show we were dying to see was Type O Negative. We were pissed! Cops had to come in with riot gear. Thankfully we got to see TON years later, but will NOT listen to the shit called Deftones again.

I was at this show and it was amazing lol. I was bummed that I didn't get to see Type O that night but the show was intense. What the news people did NOT include was that Desert Sky Pavilion and the show organizers cut the power in the middle of Deftones set and basically took the mic telling everyone that they had to "settle down, quit rushing the lawn area barricades and cool it with the fires" which at the time weren't an uncommon occurrence in the lawn area at the venue. It used to happen at all of the Ozzfest tour stops there as well. The point... telling a hyped up metal crowd to settle down is NOT a good idea. Add to it that Chino was wasted and so he told everyone to do whatever they wanted. I was just a kid and got out of there right as the riot cops showed up because my uncle decided it was time to get the hell out of there. Wild times for a 12 year old!
