Each month in the Order of the Common Life, our members reflect together on a particular commitment within our rule of life. In November 2023, we considered God's invitations for us around our commitment to discernment in community. And we invite you to reflect on how God might be inviting you to lean into this.
• Who are a few people in your life whom you might want to practice being fully present to this month?
• What do you notice “gets in the way” of that presence? How much is it the pull of your “active life”-all the activity of obligations, demands on your attention, and the “noise” of daily life? How much of it is the pull of your “contemplative life”-the desire to withdraw into silence and solitude?
• How specifically might God be inviting you into a hospitality of presence with others this month-whether that’s making space in your life for others or, if you find you don’t have any space to give, allowing yourself to be received by others? What is it like for you to talk with God about this?
Finally, find some community around you to share what you're noticing and, even, practice this with.
