Which lenses have more interesting bokeh and image texture - fujian 35, 50 or lomo 35, 50?
@@ломография I’m definitely a bigger fan of the Lomos… they’re just higher-quality lenses. The Fujians are dirt cheap and very stylized, really create surreal softness outside the center of frame. Still hoping to test the Lomo bokeh on a full-frame digital sensor so I can really see what they can do.
great video - footage looks great.
But... what have you done to Solange!?
@@fourth1000 niiiiiiiiiiiice I didn’t think anyone would notice😬
@@bryanhiltner3552 lol. I have not seen the movie but it's a wonderful trailer
beautiful !!!! love the colors !!! that mist/breath from the dogs with the sun is outstanding ; congrats for waking up early ; worth it so much for your eyes. That Tair is quite something !!!! (fotodiox c to mft are out of stock in france for a year, so if you were thinking to put one on each lens, that's what i do, i'm sick of unscrewing filters and c mount lenses, it's time to order plenty of those adapters ;) ) ; no ir cut filters ? I'm forcing myself to put ir cut lately (one more reason to be pissed) ; can't judget yet but i'd say my black or blacker. And whoever complained about rolling shutter should watch your video, i could not see any ; do you remember your shutter angle ? anything special on those gorgeous pans while the fogs grabs the frisbee ; he was good, but you were better at catching him so many times ; lovely video!!!
Thank you so much man! I use 3 different ND sizes: a 37mm for my c-mount lenses, 52mm for my Takumar and Lomos, and an 82mm for the Tair and my Meteor. Right now I only,y have a 52mm IR cut filter, so this video features most of the lenses I don’t have an IR cut filter for yet. It’s weird: so far I’ve only had focusing problems with the 35mm Fujian and maybe one other c-mount lenses, so I can still use my sh!tier c mount adapter on the other cameras, so long as I select the adapter-lens combo separately. And the more I use longer lenses, the more I notice the nauseating global shutter problems… I just cut around them. I’ve learned that a steady even pan that’s not Whiplash speed can avoid rolling shutter (so the dog frisbee shots worked out), but micro-jitters with a 300mm lens on this crop sensor create all sorts of disgusting jello wobbles, which is why I rarely move the camera with the Tair. And at the end of this shoot my tripod literally decapitsted itself, just crumbled with the camera still attached (it was ancient and on its last legs anyway)… so I’m saving up for new sticks 😬
0:01 - 0:47 its lomo 11-35-1?
Yes… except for the 2 slow motion shots 0:13-0:18… those were both the Tair 300mm. After the 1st minute, most of the Lomo footage is on the 75mm
Love it. That tair has so much 70's vibes ❤. Did u use it at 2:00? (Colorgrading overall is outstanding but with this shot at 2:00, colors are mesmerizing). I guess using all those filters make sense but i feel and share the pain of the times and adapters it takes before shooting ; using those camera almost feels like it takes more time to get everything ready than the time it takes to shoot a video😂 but i guess we know why we are commited to thoses sensors ;)
@@hugomalpeyre I know what you mean, I’ve been doing a lot of multi-camera multi-lens shoots and it gets tiring swapping filters all the time. For this shoot I just kept the Tair on the Micro the whole time, so all the slo-mo shots are on the Tair (including the one at 2:00). Then I just used the 2 Lomos on the 2.5K. Haven’t figured out how to attach a filter ring to the 35mm yet, so I just had filters on the 75mm. That sped up the process somewhat, having 1 lens on the Micro and 2 on the 2.5K.
Hello. I noticed that in these particular Lomo lenses there are unique chromatic aberrations that cannot be found in other lenses and photo lenses. Do you see the difference with other lenses?
@@onlinetraderucom I think you’re right! I haven’t noticed the chromatic aberrations specifically, but they definitely look different than any other lenses I’ve used (mostly use Pentax Takumar m42 lenses and occasionally c-mount lenses). I took the Lomos off my Konvas 1ksr-1m 35mm movie camera that never really worked right… I’ve got footage from that camera and other footage with the Lomos on my channel. Would love to use these lenses on a full frame digital camera sometime

Thank you for watching! Yeah, I love how Portland combines urban grit with natural beauty. Hope to use these cameras to shoot a feature in Portland in 2025 🤞
hey i loved this video and bought one of these little lenses for myself on ebay but I can't seem to get focus on anything further away than a few inches from the lens. am i doing something wrong? it didn't come with any info or instructions, only the m43 adapter and a threaded ring
@@hollumdotwork it’s weird… some of these c-mount lenses are fussy. The 35mm version of this lens had the same problem for me in this video ( ua-cam.com/video/rFONXBuU55E/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared ), and someone commented that the Fotodios adapter solves the issue (it costs like $10)… and he was right! So I think if you get the Fotodios adapter it will solve your focusing issues
@@bryanhiltner3552 that helped me solve it, thank you! seems the adapter they included was causing the problem but it was removable, works fine now. thank you! love the video, can't wait to try the lens out
Great job, Bryan. Enjoyed watching it.
These shots are so beautiful! I love older cameras, have some Canon FD lenses and hope I will find one of these older Blackmagic cameras to use in my free time.

this vid is the reason I just dont care to move on to the Pyxis. Fantastic.
Thank you! I rented the 6K Full Frame for a week and loved getting the full frame glory from my vintage lenses at last, so I’ve been saving up for a Pyxis… but I’d just be getting it for the full frame aspect and the appearance of professionalism that comes with it. Beautiful shots!
Interesting video. Beautiful grading!
Creative!
Looks great! No focus breathing so I'm assuming the Lomo 75mm is a cine lens. Was it originally designed for a 16mm film camera?
My 3 Lomos -- 35mm, 50mm, 75mm -- were actually attached to the turret of a 35mm motion picture camera I have, a Konvas 1ksr-1m. The camera never ran at the right framerate and the film kept jamming, so I took off the lenses and repurposed them for my BlackMagic cameras.
35mm - even better. Good idea. Similarly, I have the three Kiev-16U 16mm lenses and the RAF adapter but just haven’t used them enough on my Pocket or Micro. I think the Mir-11M (12mm) may vignette a little but I think the other two in the set are fine on the smaller sensors. I don’t think I ever tested the breathing. Anyways, I do enjoy your films. Thanks for the detailed reply, Chris
Beautiful!
Beautiful shots! It is interesting for me what this old camera can do 😀
Fantastic title and lovely tune with cracking video. Well done
That's a heck of a title.
Wow. Love the colorgrading. So analog!!!
Thanks man! I wasn’t even sure this footage would be usable… because I couldn’t attach an ND I had to shoot at 200iso and close the lens all the way down… but then with the raw files in post I was able to raise the iso back to 800 and lower the gamma down so that almost nothing was clipping. Can’t wait to test this lens again once I have a variable ND attached
Beautiful.
I’m so shocked, this literally looks like vhs, not vhs-c. Or at least to what I’ve been able to make with it
I would think they look the same…? VHS-C is just a more compact VHS tape right? But this was my first time shooting the format so I don’t really know
beautiful
So 1980/90!!! The editing gets more and more Lynch-ish, loved it. What's the track, shazam didn't get it. I'd say it's very nine inch nails vibes and liked it a lot.
Thanks man! You nailed it: it’s a NIN track from The Fragile, slowed to half speed and pitched down
Beautiful shots and vibe
It's a beautiful sight. However, the highlights are very interesting. Tell me, what color are the lenses of these lenses? Blue or green?
@@IlyaPodnebesmiy what color are the lenses of the lenses? I’m not sure how to answer that.

Great. lomo 1-35-1 end oks 1-75-1?
@@IlyaPodnebesmiy yes I think so? These are 2 of the 3 prime lenses that came on the turret of my Konvas 1ksr-1m 35mm movie camera. Oct-18 mount. The video right after this one is longer, and I use the 50mm and 75mm
OG BLackmagic cameras were so cinema. Once BRaw hit.. it was over
Loved it. Spooky & beautiful. Quick question : when I export for youtube, my out of focus parts get all washed up and mushy once i upload (because of YT compression) ; what are your export settings (and maybe timeline settings). Thx. And congrats
@@hugomalpeyre hey! Thanks for watching! I edit in Resolve… I don’t really change any settings from the default, the main thing I do is always upscale all my footage to 4K, so maybe that helps neutralize the compression? Once I right click on the Project in the Home section, I change the project’s attributes to 4K resolution and that automatically changes the timeline settings to 4K as well (I don’t do anything else to timeline settings). Then I select all the clips and upscale them 4x in the Clip Attributes section and it’s good to go.
@@hugomalpeyre I can also send you screenshots of my Resolve settings too
@@bryanhiltner3552 Hello Bryan, Thx for your reply and the infos. I tried last night and when exporting, the rendering time didn't even show up ; my old 2021 macbook pro could not handle it and the fan was making a factory loud and scary noise. The screen froze, I had to reboot it (but my fault, I must have more than a 100 google pages open that i need to tidy) and need to do a good clean up (even back to factory settings to start fresh). I thought about asking you for a video or screenshot but didn't want to bother you, so thanx a lot for your message below ;) Anyway, yes I'd be happy to have screenshots of projects settings (for the bmpcc og), and what you mentionned above and the timelines & export settings. But no rush, when you can. I do know that my footage, compared to you or neograyfilm for instance, once uploaded, don't look as good on yt as on my laptop ; i know there is some compression involved, that's why i tried to export prores but still, i could bet a lot that your prores footage looks has a better quality than any of my Raw footage exported in the highest resolution (must be because i only change the export settings to 4K, without twiking anything that you talked about). Voilà, thank you mate ;) Very kind of you, cheers
@@hugomalpeyre I’ve shot ProRes I think twice, by accident both times. Raw is The Way. 🙏 I think you mentioned the key: after changing the project settings to 4K, you need to highlight all the OG clips, right click them and go into the Clip Attributes, and upscale them all 4x. I bet without upscaling the clips, the export would look a little fuzzy in places. I’ll make a little video of my coloring/exporting process soon… I just feel sheepish doing so since I steal all my techniques from other UA-camrs.
Dig this! Shoot a film with this, you got the look nailed down!!
LOMO and Blackmagic is the best combo!
Really nice Bryan, thanks for this! I really enjoyed the powerful draw of the sea, the colour grading and the focus pulling was super nice. It was a bit too long to keep concentration on to be honest! There was too much of the same! I hope its ok to give you a wee bit of constructive criticism? Cheers & keep on creating! Andrew
@@andrewmitchell1354 absolutely! Solid critique. To be honest, this one was a bit of a footage dump. I shot so much video during our week vacation at the beach, this is like the fifth video of that stuff and I’ve still got some more to go. Most of the other ones are much shorter. I’ve got a couple fun edits coming up, footage from a Polish Festival and footage from a busy intersection in my city, both filmed with 3 cameras (BlackMagic 2.5K, BlackMagic Micro, and K3 16mm)… and I’ll be trying to be more precise and tight with those ones 🎞️
The grading on this is something else. Pray tell your grade workflow. And export settings. One of the finest pieces I have seen coming out of the fairlight child
