On this channel I will be sharing my jewelry hobby (in which I mostly specialize in mens rings) and many other projects that I work on including machining work performed on my lathe, silversmithing, fabrication projects, welding, and maybe little woodworking too.
The River - Hammer Textured Silver Ring
In this video I use a texturing hammer and an engraving tool to create a unique ring out of Sterling Silver that I call "The River" because it looks like rocks on the bottom of a river bed.

Brady's Ring, Rose Gold Wrapped Titanium w/ Pink Tourmaline & Gold Inlay
Переглядів 2672 роки тому
This band was cut from titanium on my lathe and wrapped in rose gold. It was then inlayed with pink tourmaline and rose gold chips and shavings to be my nephew Brady's wedding band. I was very honored and proud to be able to make this ring for Brady and I'm sorry I didn't do a better job with the quality of filming of this video.
Heidi's Turquoise Pendant
Переглядів 4252 роки тому
In this video I convert at 58 year old Turquoise Cabochon Bolo Tie into a Pendant by removing the bolo tie slider clasp and hand making a bail to match the pendant design. This project was done for a Beloved Aunt who's father owned and wore this bolo tie before passing it down to her.

Handmade Sterling Silver Spectrolite Ring
Переглядів 5325 років тому
This wasn’t the original design that I had in mind, but I actually like the way this alternate design came out. This ring is made from 925 Sterling Silver and was completely hand made by me. The Spectrolite stone was purchased from my favorite local rock shop, Natural Expressions, Inc. The owner, Fred Thiele, has been there in the same location just south of downtown Gilbert AZ for over 30 year...
Handmade Plier Holder
Переглядів 9 тис.5 років тому
In this video I show how I made myself a simple plier rack out of some 1/4" thick plexiglass that I got for free at a storage unit clean out sale and some 1/2" wooded dowel. It's a very simple make and could be made out of any number of materials, I used what I had on hand and it turned out spectacular. The best thing about it is that as my plier collection grows I can simply buy another dowel ...
Sterling Silver Swizzle Stick (Stirring Stick) drink stirring stick.............No Narration
Переглядів 6395 років тому
This is a solid 925 stirling silver stirring stick. It's made of 2.5 mm square wire which is annealed and then twisted three times. I then cut two 3/4" discs out of a 1mm thick plate of silver and solder them together to make a 2mm thick disk to which I solder to the end of the twisted rod. Once everything is together nicely I melt the end of the stick in to a ball and then proceed to all of th...
Elk Antler Ring with Peridot and Copper inlay on Silver Band (Arizona Ring #1) - handmade
Переглядів 30 тис.5 років тому
This video is a followup to my last video where I had done another Elk Antler ring. In this video I add a stone inlay of peridot to the ring and discuss the process of making the ring through voice over as the video goes along. This is also video #1 in a series of videos I have decided to do using the many wonderful elements available for me to use from the great state of Arizona, my Arizona Ri...
Elk Antler & Copper Ring
Переглядів 37 тис.5 років тому
In this video I make an elk antler ring with a naturally procured elk shed that I have stabilized in my vacuum chamber. I put the antler on top of a sterling silver band and then inlay two copper bands into the antler on the outside of the ring. (Handmade)

Papertowel Holder Fix (lathe work)
Переглядів 4036 років тому
This is a short video that is a simple fix to a simple household item but it was fun to do. It was some simple lathe work but it benefited us and was the entire reason I love the idea of having the tools that you need when you need them even though you don't use them all the time. Don't forget to see the end clip.
Pickle Pot Problems, & a Fix
Переглядів 4,5 тис.6 років тому
I MADE A MISTAKE!!! I got STEEL in my PICKLE POT, WHAT NOW??? In this video I show how I got steel in my pickle pot and what the affects of it on my silver ring were. After explaining what happened to it I show how to fix the ring and pep up your pickle pot. Don't forget the bloopers at the end.

Silver and Turquoise Bezel Ring
Переглядів 2726 років тому
In this video I make a spilt shank sterling silver bezel ring to receive a beautiful piece of natural Turquoise. This Turquoise was given to my sister-in-law by one of her best friends to be used as her "Something Blue" in her wedding. She then brought it to me and asked me to make it into a piece of jewelry for her so that she could wear it in remembrance of the day, and this is what I made fo...

Chinese Mini Lathe Box Opening and First Chips
Yes- thank you for detail explanation along with a visual to let it sink in!
Show this to your kids people! Had I seen content like this half a century ago, I would have wanted to be Randy when I grew up! 😍👍
@@wh0tube I think that is the nicest comment I’ve ever received! Thank you 🙏
Lovely craftsmanship. Can you see the join at all where the 2 ends of the copper meet? Or do you have a method to hide this? Thanks
Awesome video, Thanks! ❤
Were you "depletion guilding" at the start to get the bright fine silver to the surface?
Not at the beginning no, I was annealing. The metal must be annealed as it is stretched and worked. Depletion guilding is typically done at the end right before polishing to bring out that fine silver as you said. Hope this helps.
@@randysmithfabrications2731 Goootcha, thank you so much! Gorgeous ring!
Very helpful, thanks.
You’re welcome
Thank you for your beautiful video and nice ring! I was curious to ask: isn’t the metal bowl giving a copper patina to your silver? I am talking about the one in the middle between the pickling solution and the water. Does it contain salt and vinegar? Thanks.
No, it contains baking soda and water and it’s used to neutralize the pickling solution. It does strip surface copper away, which is why the water turns blue but that’s a good thing because it brightens up the silver.
Great information thank you.
Can you add hydrogen peroxide to a vinegar and salt pickle?
What kind of torch are you using? I’m looking for a good one
Magic
Hi. Terrific video. I have a texturing hammer like that but it didn’t come with that particular screw on attachment. Was this one you had to purchase? Also, did you use a particular attachment for the Foredom to stipple around the circles? Thank you.
This particular hammer doesn’t have interchangeable heads like you are describing, I bought it as is, but I know of which hammer you are talking about. I think I ordered my hammer on Amazon but I can’t remember exactly, sorry. The stippling I’m doing is actually not a Foredom attachment, it’s an old school metal engraver I got from my dad. It’s what he use to use to engrave our names and phone numbers on our bicycles when we were kids. Hope that helps, good luck.
Thanks very much!!
Very niiiice!!!!
Very nice!
Thank you
I would just use the antler and not the silver insert Beautiful ring. Have you ever used walnut or cherry saw dust with the ca glue?
Unfortunately, the antler is not strong enough to hold up on its own and even this ring with a 1 mm thick silver band eventually bent and broke. Now I make them with much stronger inner silver bands, so that they survive and last a long time. Yes I’ve used many different kinds of sawdust with CA glue, they make for a great insert.
Beautiful love the step by step video 😊
Thank you
Very nicely done.
Beautiful thank you for video 😊
Yesbut. I have about three times that many pliers. Longer dowels, I guess. LOL. Thanks for sharing.
That’s what I did, I’ve extended the length of my dowels three times since I made this video as my plier collection grew. 👍
really cool
enjoyed watching, great ring
Fuck the background noise
Awesome 👍👍👍
I have this same pickle pot and my pickle ended up burning inside after a day. The pot was really hot. I’m not sure why
Super video Randy
Outstanding job Randy. It is a beautiful ring and your craftmanship is superb. I would be quite sure Brady and his bride are quite proud of this georgous ring . Thank you for sharing something so interesting to a former machinest and jeweler.
Brady actually lost this 😢 ring but I learned a new technique to add to my repertoire 😉 Thanks for the comment.
Sir: thank you for posting of a complete ring step by step, Your video is so clear and concise even I that lack a lot of self confidance am willing to try something out of my confort zone. Thank you and I will be watching more.
Thank you for the comment. Trying things out of my comfort zone is how I learned 😉
Great Piece of Art...
This was really good
I'm looking online for a ring just like this. Hard to find real malachite rings. He'll I'd buy one of yours there are so nice
Thank you 🙏 I really appreciate that. I do sell these, I could make you one if you like. They are $150. You can email me at randysmithfabrications@yahoo.com, just reference your comment here in the email.
ZAPATERO A TUS ZAPATOS....TU ERES HERRERO, DEJA LA PLATA..A LA PLATA SE LE TRATA COMO A UNA MUJER CON DELICADEZA Y CARIÑO.
Beautiful work! Loved it! Voiceover was great as well.
How much u charge for something like this?
Sweet nice work!!
What are the dimensions?
The end plates are 4” wide by 6.75” tall made out of 0.5” thick plexiglass. The 0.5” wooden dowels I used were recently upgraded and are now 14” long because my collection of pliers has grown, which is exactly why I designed it this way.
@@randysmithfabrications2731 thanks
What guage copper are you using?
I don’t remember exactly but shortly after this I began using copper powder to avoid dealing with the seam in the wire and achieved the same results.
Well as per usual I watched part B before hunting down part A but what the heck what are rabbit holes for if not for going down. Great instruction, I have a small wood lathe I think I will be able to tool up enough to make a ring or two, oh ya and I also have about 150 pounds of deer and elk horn.
You may have seen in other comments but I always warn everyone who says they want to try making one of these to make sure they use a thicker silver core than what I did. Antler is a very weak material so you have to make sure that the silver ring is strong so the ring won’t bend and break its bond to the antler. The silver core ring needs to be at least 1 1/2 to 2 mm thick or yours will break like mine did.
Great instructional and the voice over is perfect. I am going to go back and try to find out how to get the silver inside the antler. 👍
Great video, got a lot of new and great ideas for my shop. ? Have you ever crushed antler to do inlay. Just to use uptrend small left overs ?
I have, but depending on what part of the antler you use you won’t see the matrix if it’s crushed. I’ve also used copper filings instead of wire so you don’t have a seam and it works great.
What a beautiful ring! What kind of burr did you use to add the rough texture around the Circles please?
I used an engraver
Great video and the voice-over was fantastic! I l look forward to viewing more of your videos. Thank you for sharing
Really cool ring. Only suggestion would be removing the grind marks on the copper.
It is great to see that you continued to video even with a glitch. This presentation enstills not just craftsmanship but dedication to finalize the project and discover other methods to achieve the final results. Awesome looking ring.
Bone dust is NOT carcinogenic. It is Pathogenic. It can trigger allergic reactions up to anaphylaxis, but doesn't cause cancer. Just saying....
Love this video!
where does one get all the tool sand "ingredients" to do this
Do you have any friends that hunt? I don’t hunt but I have a friend who hikes and collects shed antlers, and the tools you can get any number of places.
Where do you sell pieces and do you take commissions?
I don’t have a website or an Etsy page yet because I’m still working on my original products lineup that I will be offering. So yes my primary source of work currently is commissions, email me at randysmithfabrications@yahoo.com and let me know what you had in mind and I’ll see if I can’t help you out.
@@randysmithfabrications2731 Awesome! I definitely look forward to your lineup and shop, it’s apparent you know exactly what you’re doing. Full disclosure I’m 100% interested in a commission but it will be in 3-5 weeks when I get freed up and then I’d love to come up with a pendant or ring. Just basic stuff: I like serrated settings, twist wire and or beads, little bit of that liver of sulphor and buffed out, and maybe a couple decorative beads. Far as stones I dig Pilot mountain, Royston, most Kingman, Apache Blue, basically anything from a US mine.
@@trendkill1891 Sounds good, I could definitely do something like that for you. Just email me when you are ready to do it, and in the meantime see if if you can find a stone that you love and want made into something. Of course I can always try to find a stone for you too but I find that selection can be limited at times depending on where you source them and more importantly stones can be a very personal thing, some certain stones just speak to people in certain ways and when you find that perfect stone, you know it.
@@randysmithfabrications2731 Will do and beautifully put man, I completely agree! It is a super personal thing that has to speak to you when choosing a stone. Like love at first sight, I’ll keep my eye out for one, thank you🙏🏽
Hoping you can help my pickling pot has some kind of brown sticky stuff floating at the top I've got no clue what it is and I've tried to search all over online and I can't seem to figure it out
Hmm 🤔 that’s weird. Is it some kind of oil maybe? Is I affecting your work in any way? I would say, when in doubt pour it out. 🤷🏼♂️
@@randysmithfabrications2731 that's exactly what I'm doing pouring it out scrubbing it down and try try again I thought maybe I put too much of the pickling solution stuff in there whatever the heck that is lol I'm still new at this but I love it so no giving up. Can't even tell you the billions of things I've got going on creatively / craft wise.
I am having the same problem. Brown icky stuff around the top. Did you ever figure out what the cause was? I am wondering if it could be minerals in my water? I also use one of those small stainless steel baskets for small items and questioned if that could be the cause.
Ive had this brown sticky stuff in my pickle too. I just fished most of it out and the pickle was fine after. No idea what it is or where it came from.
Awesome! Thank you for sharing!
Two thoughts. 1. Seems like it would help to cover your ring mandrel with some plastic wrap to keep it from getting glue and/or rock dust covered. 2. Since the ring is already spinning on the mandrel couldn’t you just use sandpaper as opposed to the sanding drum on the rotary tool…cheaper. Nice video. Thanks.
I’ve since began using electrical tape on my mandrels. I use the dremel because I can get very rough grits and the rotation of the drum doubles it’s effectiveness turning against the rotation of my lathe without cranking up the speed. I usually only do this to knock down the larger clumps and then finish by hand.
