Shaun the Sheep Loves Wool
Wool’s many natural benefits and performance attributes in wool flooring are being highlighted to consumers as Shaun the Sheep returns as ‘ambaaa-ssador’ to the Campaign for Wool and British Wool, marking the start of a special 3-year consumer awareness campaign.
Just over ten years ago, the first collaboration between Aardman and the Campaign for Wool culminated in a Guinness Book of World Records for the number of wool pom-poms created worldwide. Ten years later, the relationship has been reignited alongside British Wool on this important education project that draws special attention to the plethora of wool’s natural performance benefits alongside the safety aspects of wool flooring, and wool’s inherent ability to repel stains and clean easily without the need for harsh chemicals.
Promoting his messages of 'Shaun Loves Wool' and ‘The Perfect Carpet for Ewe’, this world-renowned, loveable sheep brings together the core values of the character's creators, Aardman and the studio’s Shaun the Sheep of 'One Farm’ initiative.

You should be proud of the work you do - it is remarkable! That said, there is nothing sustainable or particularly noble about making one outfit for one member of the 1%. Be proud, but be realistic.

I’ve read “Less”. A lot of the history I already knew (I’m a history teacher), but the social and economic interpretation was fascinating. I’ve always knitted, but most available yarn these days is acrylic in 100g balls and wool is expensive to buy. So I started knitting FairIsle patterns with Shetland wool. They come in 25g balls, so little waste and what is left over, can be used up in smaller garments such as hats and gloves. Plus it takes me a long time! I looked to buy T Shirts from Community Clothing, but was disappointed to find they all came with ‘badges’. Other organic outlets want to make political eco statements on their garments. I just want to buy ethical, plain, neutral clothes I can wear with anything. 🙏

I’ve just started listening to Patrick Grant’s book, ‘Less’, and it’s really crystallising in my mind what I already have been thinking… less = more happiness, quality is everything, and buy British.

Yikes. No one was weaving ... The Coast Salish, Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian are relatively new to me. Some of the inspiration that I feel from these people are their weavings. I tried weaving on a ridgid heddle loom in my past, and I am still into fabric arts (specifically kumihimo). These people share my interest in wood carving, too. Whole tribes with a rich history of textiles and carving and stories! As a San Diegan, I, too, have a connection to the water. I wanted to be an oceanographer when I was little. I, too, have a connection to animal spirits - although I'm catholic, I still feel the spiritual connection.

yes. not too bad. But let's get real .... isn't there something quite hypocritical about the monarch speaking about ecology .... burring wool in his rose garden to proof sustainability ...? Getting in touch with colonialism in a deeply human way is a chunk of what ecology must be about and this maximum - privileged geeser is talking as if he never in his life was in trouble (cause he was not). Folks - the future grows from the past so we need something deeper than that. And yes, wool and sheep and good, intelligent farming .... more of that. Much more. ( I am a farmer) But we ain't gonna get it unless we start thinking about the mythologies that underlie western modern culture and thinking .... which brings us back to the monarch talking about circularish ways of living. What the fuck ?
