Quite the change from the time I was there. They had just pulled it out of the water. That thing was a mess inside and out. As I remember it had zero paint. A Rusty mess top to bottom. The inside was almost unbearable. Looking down into the lower deck there was water with grease, oil and diesel floating on top. They were in the process of pumping it out. Cudoz to the people who cleand her up. I may take a trip to see her again.

My dad lived in the Charleston area for many years and I vacationed in the Beaufort SC area years ago. Anytime I was in the area I would make it a point to go tour the Yorktown. 😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤.

Well, I visited Typhoon class submarine and "Peter the Great" nuclear battlecruiser when I served in the navy. These things were dmn big! But I have to admit that battleship is even more impressive. Some kind of old-school engineering, especially these 16''s of main battery.

Kind of nice to have the whole place to yourself while you’re touring. Thanks for filming.

Everything about Miami has changed since Vice was filmed. I moved to South Florida in 1983. Until Vice started filming, Miami Beach was mostly filled with old and dilapidated hotels. Now, South Beach is all glitz and glamour, thanks in part to Miami Vice ♥️

That was a great video. My Grandpa was on the USS Franklin "Big Ben" CV-13. She almost got sank off the coast of Japan. I believe the crew of Franklin remain the most decorated crew in US Naval History. My grandpa was one of 3 Chambers on board that ship and she was know to have a complement of 2,600 officers and enlisted men. After the Japs had dropped a couple of 500lbs bombs on deck, 924 crewmen were killed, to include 2 crew men whose last names were Chambers unfortunately. Of the survivors, 704 men that survived formed the 704 Club upon returning to the homeland. Back in 2000, I was down in South Carolina, and I visited the Yorktown. What a pleasure it was to tour that ship. All the stories that my grandpa had told me back in the 80s had come to life. My grandparents lived with us on our farm in upstate NY. My grandpa would set on the porch chewing Havana Blossom chewing tobacco and tell me all the war stories on board the USS Franklin. I was about 10 years-old but loved the stories because my Grandpa, Patrick Anthony Chambers was my hero, along with my father of course. There was something to be said about those days, something very special about the spirit and attitude that most Americans had for their country the USA. They didn't just "say" they loved their country, their lives and how they lived and how many died sealed the truth in the statement that they were patriots and LOVED THEIR COUNTY.

I had went there for the ship but ended up spending the whole day talking with the guy who happened to pass us and turns out he restored a lot of the planes and he had some crazy stories about how he had to eject out of an F-4 over the gulf and his stories of restoring the B-25 parked there.

I saw this same guy in 2011 i think it was. Glad to see he’s still there and having fun.

My Dad volunteered for submarine duty in WW2, but he was too tall. Ended up on a heavy cruiser.
