    Man, I just used 1500 wet or dry and 2000 wet or dry on a 17 foot fly rod. Lots and lots of ferrules that were very dark brown. Then alcohol. It all went under my fingernails, but everything connects smoothly. Except one spot. The thick male ferrule getting toward the reel no long fits in the female. The male was the longer center core, the female has the opposite, I can't see any dents..It's like the make and female are exactly the same size. Am I really going to have to use my Dremmel and the green rouge to take down the male ferrule? That stuff is spooky...

    friend, excellent video, greetings from Colombia, I am already making my own rod. I would like to ask you if you can answer a question for me. The shiny side of one strip is also worked the same as the others in the final brushing. I thank you.

      The shiny side (enamel side) is flattened with a scrapper. It is not planned like the other two sides. Thank you for watching the videos.

    I use basically the same clamp. My clamping pads are two extra cork rings(try not to glue them to the grip rings as I have done). As I snug up, I measure the distance along the axis of each threaded rod. Even distance = even clamping pressure. Love your channel.

    Thanks - very good video. I’ve made six rods using Gorilla Glue. It seems to hold well, but like the hot glue it doesn’t hold the tabs down very well. Request: I’ve read books, articles and watched dozens of videos on splitting cane, but nothing is detailed enough to penetrate my simple mind. Most end up saying that a person will improve with practice, but I hate tossing strips even as I’m learning. Would you be able to make a video that’s painfully exacting?

    Sandpaper is a no-no once you have a good fit. Oxidation is more effectively removed using 0000 steel wool to buff it off. A few seasons of using 2000 grit paper to remove the oxidation will result in a loose fit eventually.

    Splitting in halves and halves again, in my experience, does not get you to .250, but rather to .300 something. There is a solid reason most of us have to split into thirds after we split the culm in half. There are other ways to get thin enough strips, but they require more experience and a lot of control.

    Love your content and Beautiful rods you craft! Since your an experienced rod builder. Try finding a (Safe Non Toxic) way to wrap and varnish rods. And do a video on that. Some of us are very sensitive to chemicals or have become sensitized to them from the use of them that is forever life changing and sometimes life threatening.

    • @AlbaughRodCo
      @AlbaughRodCo 3 роки тому

      Thank you for the comment and question. Not a lot of non toxic options that I'm aware of. I'll have to rest some stuff out. Tung and linseed oils are food safe and can be used as a rod finish. Traditional varnishes and epoxy are used for the wraps. That is the difficult part to find the non toxic alternatives.
