Kent Industrial Measurements Large Flow Cal Rig
Kent Industrial Measurements Large Flow Calibration Rig
Vintage video (VHS) from around mid 1980's showing the newly constructed large flow calibration facility at Stonehouse, Gloucestershire. At the time it was the largest continuous pumped flow test rig in the world.
The parent company was BBC (Brown Boveri Corporation), before a merger to what is now known as ABB. The new factory at Oldends Lane, Stonehouse was constructed to house the relocated George Kent staff and test rigs from Biscot Road & Dallow Road, Luton plus the Railway Arches, Bath Road, Stroud site.
It features a meter prover reference with secondary transfer standard Turbine meters. This calibration rig’s chief designer was Geoff Brown , with assistance from Ron Bomberg. The turbine meters where handled by Spectra-Tekflow computers. The supervisor computer, a BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) Micro with extra custom designed hardware pulse counters and software programmed by Ray Keech.
The video shows a brief side shot of Geoff Brown at the control desk, young graduate engineers Michael Armitage in some AV stills, with his colleagues Andrew Godley & Mr Noor-e-Alam Ahmed

What is probably the most spectacular rail journey in the world. Our journey from Banff in the Rocky Mountains to Vancouver, British Columbia.
lovely (-:
Just figured out this was twelve years before I was born🤯 love the scenes❤
Very interesting setup. And it was a good idea to paint the glossy dish so it wouldn't melt the LNB in its focus on a sunny day around equinox.
Glad you found it interesting to watch. Yes the lack of paint caught me out !!
Nice Video...:)
Lovely smooth landing and a great place to ascend from.
very nice video the view at that height is amazing very informative too
Hi Glad you liked the film. Their was not many children on our trip. I would not like to comment on if your children would like it. We were never bored, so much to see. We enjoyed gold leaf, the glass done really gives a super view of the wonderful scenery, but they do charge a lot extra for it.
Thanks for the great film! It was beautifully made. My family are thinking about doing this trip- would you think it was suitable for children, I didn't see any in your video! Also, was it rather repetitive for 2 days? And do you think it was worth the extra money going gold leaf class?
Hi The main stop was / is at Camloops, where you stay overnight. That only has time a meal and sleeping overnight, before an early start the next day. All transport to and from the hotel was included. It does not really have any other stops and is like a through service
How much time are you given during stops? Can you get out to look at attractions?
Very well done,spot on.
Glad you enjoyed it. As you say amazing scenery. Trip of lifetime.
Brilliant! I've done the trip once, Gold Leaf like you; compared to where we live (in Australia) the scenery is just awesome. Thank you.
Hi. Thanks for the positive feedback. It was shot on 10 & 11 Oct 2002. Cheers Ray
