The Marty Show is a pop culture (mainly "bronze age" comic books) overview and review show hosted by... You guessed it, a guy named Marty! It doesn't matter if he tells you it's Kenny, Dan or George.

Dark Horse comics recently released a brand new edition of Den NeverWhere by Richard Corben, which is volume 1 in the Den series. For all we know, it might very well be the definitive edition of this particular title!

A quick look at the Starriors toys and the four-issue limited series written by Louise Simonson, with art by Mike (Michael) Chen and covers painted by Bill Sienkiewicz. (Whose name I'm not 100% sure I can say properly!)

NBC Saturday Morning Peacock Club QUIZ

First of, sorry for the hiatus, life got in the way, but The Marty Show is back, not with a main course, but with an appetizer of sorts. This time we have a look at the NBC Saturday Morning Peacock Club QUIZ ad, directly from the moldy old pages of Shogun Warriors #10. And I really had no clue about The Shmoo, apologies to all Shmoo fans!

Ghost Rider #15 Glow in the Dark issue overview
“There’s a lot to see here… but there is very little I can actually show you.” That is such an amazing sentence, and it fits Neverwhere so well. I’ve been a fan of Richard Corben since the end of the aughts when I first saw his work in the pages of Hellboy, but never had the chance to see any of his classic and creator-owned stuff until this year with all the AMAZING Corben Library editions coming out from Dark Horse. Den has immediately skyrocketed into the realm of “favorite comics of all time,” and I suspect it will stay there. I’m actually finding it a little difficult to go back to other more standard, flat looking comics after spending so much time with his stuff. It has such an incredible texture to it. It feels more tangible than any other comics I have ever read. I cannot wait to pick up volumes 4 and 5 of Den as well as any and all of the other Corben titles that Dark Horse continue to put out. We tragically may not have the man any more, but what a time to be a Corben fan!
Thanks for the awesome comment! I have yet to get book 2,3 and 4, and sadly I don’t know when I’ll be able to get them, hopefully they’ll stay available and in print for a while. Truth is, I’m in the process of moving abroad and I am wondering what to do with my collection, some of it will definitely come with me but transportation costs would be prohibitive if I elected to bring all of it, and unfortunately hardcover books tend to be on the heavier side. That being said, Neverwhere is definitely a keeper!
@@martymartini good luck with the move, friend! Storage is and transportation, the band of all us comic nuts’ existence! I would bet that these books will be out there for a while and / or relatively easy to find on the after market.
@@kroagw06 Thanks, looking into what I could do to at least bring some of it without breaking the bank. I hope they will remain available a while, we might get softcover versions down the road, but my guess is that we could be years away from that, if ever.
@@martymartini yeah, DH seems to be open soft covers but those do tend to come much later (if they come at all). I know it’s taken them years to do the soft versions of their BPRD and Witchfinder books
I just found out about this , gonna pick it up thanx 4 sharing. .
That’s a fair point 😅
Conan is rescued by the girl 4 times in the story. He is very timid.
Is the newsstand the more collectible version?
In some cases yes, but whichever version of a comic is rarer is the more valuable one. Barring that, it's usually a matter of condition, visual appeal, and other details. About this particular issue, it isn’t all that rare, and the current value isn’t all that great anyway, unless you have it graded, so I assume it would be a matter of a 5 to 10 $ difference in value at most.
@@martymartini ok thanks bud for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it
No worries, thanks for asking, have a good one!
MY FAVORITE ARTIST!!!
Love the review kep up the fantastic work❤️🥊
Thanks!
Thanks for explaining WeirdWorld. Yep and The Punisher was there amongst others.
Great job ❤
Thanks!
I just picked up #1 thru #4 in a dollar bin. The original colors blow away stinking digital colors. Old school colorists brought in a high level art in their work. Knowing that it was going to be printed on newsprint the colorist and inker would have to take that into account when finishing the pencils. It adds an ambiance that is totally lacking in digital crap.
I can't agree more!
I am now looking forward to buying it, now that i've seen your review. Thank you
This is a great review! Im'm trying to decide between this and the omni. Quick question if you catch a sec: Looks like some wicked gutter loss on any splash pages (like at 1:06 in the vid) - is that the case or was the book just not quite opened all the way? Thanks for any guidance.
Thanks for the kind words, and thank you for pointing this out, you are right that toward the middle part of the book, there is, to put it as you did, some wicked gutter loss... Nothing that will hinder the reading experience, but there are a couple of pages where the text is borderline readable. I give it a pass because of the thickness and the paper quality and it isn't really a big deal to me but I do agree that it might annoy some. In that case, the omni might be a better option, because of the better binding + you get a lot more extras.
Thank you@@martymartini! Really appreciate the follow up. Just ordered!
I had been collecting the "East Cost Comics" reprints (from1973) then I picked up the Gladstone & the Gemstone reprints as they came out. My favorite reprints were the complete Russ Cochran runs of all the titles that started in 1992, I never could afford the originals or the hard back reprints, except I splurged on the Picto-Fiction books not long ago. I also have the early MAD (issues 1-23 in 8 volumes) reprints and the CD-ROM Totally MAD! I love all of EC and would like to have the older pre-trend titles that didn't get reprinted in comic form someday, but I will have to get the archive additions for these.
Cool
Very nice review, thanks!
Thank you for the kind words!
The drawings especially in that first comic book of the mini series were fantastic! Wonderful art, I love the sense of interstellar space you can really feel in the first pages...
That's well described! I agree.
Love EC! Only have one hardcover book from the 80s, but treasure it and need to hunt down the rest!
Love EC as well, whenever I find some at a decent price, I just can't help it, I'm buying! As you could probably see in the video, I go for reprints though, original issues are up there in value and hard to find in good condition. As a matter of fact hardcover is the way to go, I suppose.
I've just started this book. Just finished Grendel Omni vol 1 and was absolutely blown away. Incredible prose ( I'm all about the writing ) and superb artists. I've all 4 omnis sat on my shelf. Just started this book though so I'm hoping it keeps up the high level writing. Now to watch your review ✌️
i had the original comico issues the first 2 were black and white and no prose . i wish wagner did all the art in this
Monsters on the pprraaowl!
Lol, yup, I know
@@martymartini Is that how you pronounce Prraaaowl?
@@thealterist9762 No, I'm aware I might mispronounce certain words, and if it bothers certain people I'm very sorry about it, I just do my best and just trying to have a bit of fun with my channel. I could have pronounced it Proul, or Prowel but I went with Prraaaowl. Hopefully it doesn't deter from your enjoyment of the video and if it does, there isn't much I can do aside from recommending you to watch other videos in the same vein made by people who are more proficient in the language than I am. All that said, thanks for your comment, I'll pay more attention to how I say things.😅
@@martymartini Your welcome.
you have a great channel - i have watched hald a dozen videos of yours today and enjoyed every single one of them
Thank you, it’s much appreciated! I’ve got a few more on the way
Thanks for the upload. You can thank me later --> P r o m o S M!!
Thanks for reviewing this. I was curious about it, but haven't seen much coverage from 'comics UA-cam'.
You’re welcome! It kind of went under the radar didn’t it?
Wonderful video! Gladstone's double-sized Tales From the Crypt #1 hooked me on all these reprints. Timeless stories and art, and refreshing change of pace from 90s superhero comics.
