Grew up in Ballyphehane and remember the Southside shopping center under construction and was there a few times when it was open. Was around when Vicars road was built and Edward Walsh road was been built as well . Went to the driving test center behind the shopping center to do the driving test around 1976. Dr Flynns surgery was there too. Great memories.
Outstanding historical video. Congratulations. What a place . Heartbeat of Northside long before Fords , Dunlops . The Apple Computers of years gone by . I had to laugh at the subtitles 😂Because I’m a Norrie born and raised, our accent lives its own history . Subtitles don’t work with “Norrie” . Siri on my iPhone still can’t figure me out 😂😂🇮🇪🇮🇪CorcaighAbú
I used to work in Springgrove over 20 years ago.
My mother used to work there.
I was in the Mercy Hospital the day of the fire & without knowing where exactly it had to be a massive place, cos the cloud of thick black smoke was huge!
fantastic thank you , music was a head wreck tho
I don't think I knew where it actually was. My oldest sister worked there. We lived off of Shandon Stret. I was 7 years younger. I left Cork on my own in 1977. Was it closed in 1990 and the building caught fire in 2003? I wasn't very clear on that.
My aunt lily o sullivan was postmistress Of togher post office I lived in the lough
I grew up in Togher. All those kids from the photos in the sixties, I wonder who they are. Are they still alive. What stories do they have to tell.
I WORKED IN THE SUNBEAM ON THE UNDERWEAR CIRCULAR FABRIC MACHINES GOLDEN MEMORIES ❤
Brilliant, reared in the flats at Owenacurra Court, long gone, I’m living in Dublin now, I’m in one of those pictures 😢😊
I remember the day the Sunbeam went on fire. I would have been 9. It was the biggest story in Farranree for a long time.
we are just passing clouds in life . beautiful video
My cousins the McCarthy family, have the last remaining Market Garden in Togher, you will never taste better vegetables anywhere
WE USED TO SEND NEWCOMERS FOR THE LONG STAND THEY USED TO BE STANDING FOR QUITE AWHILE 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣❤
Would be frowned upon and seen as bullying today
brilliant , there is alot of faces on this , that i remember ,
Wow they were the good old days went Done a hard day's work never complained that's what my father always told us only a kid then but we listened and took great advice from him a leagond rip
"A bucket of steam", brilliant!
Fond memories lived in Togher from 1966 to 1984 my first class was at the original boys school (Hen House) then across to the old girls school teacher Mrs Lucey, then Mrs Murphy, crossed the road again to the prefab behind the Hen House taught by Mrs Quinn from Earlwood then to the New boys school such excitement taught by Mr O'Brien,Mr Pardi and Mr Burns.Collecting frog spawn in the bog and walking with your pals up the African Missions or Snotty bridge, made my confirmation in the new church,my sister took ceili dancing lessons in the cottage next to the old girls school and in the adjacent cottage the woman who lived there I think her name was Mrs O'Brien always had the top half of the front door open and would greet you with a lovely smile when you were getting off the bus.Flor Dullea (Mrs Murphys brother) was the principal and he drove a maroon Ford Zephyr which was akin to a Cadillac at the time that might be it at 6:19.I left Ireland in 1984 but its great to see this film I also saw a trip to Dublin Zoo and Kilmainham Jail on the Togher BNS archives that I had totally forgotten about. Thanks again.
Jimmy a true gentleman.
Togher is a kip.
Where is togher?
On the off - chance that you're not being sarcastic, it's a suburb× of Cork, in Ireland, on the South side of the city, much of it council housing built in the early 1970's, but with a lot of middle class housing also. Not far from the airport. ×'Suburb'... in the European sense of the word moreso than how it is understood in America.
Is it in the constitution or what that historical videos have to be set to depressing dirges of music?
It’s a pity they tore up all the old railway line back in the day.
Thanks for uploading dude.love to see pictures of togher back in the day
They had great chips in that chipper in five star. Happy Days 😊
Yeah they were great, wrapped in newspaper, I can still get the lovely smell as you head up the steps towards the chipper.
another classic

You wouldn't happen to have any old photos that you would like to publish on our FB page?
I have but don’t do face book fella
Bygone days
Full of fake-u-gees now
What a story I love the banter of the people who worked in the big factory’s They were assume people and they were all very happy not like the factory’s of today - To see the factory’s on fire broke the people’s heart- That was very sad - All the good people who stood together all their lives and then everything was brunt- Love the way they worked together and marrying the child hood friends who were gob smacked at the massive fire at the sunbeam)) God bless each and every one of ya!!
My Dad was one of the 'Milkmen' of Togher so I grew up walking these streets week in week out delivering milk & collecting the money after school. Seems like a world away now..!! Happy days..!!
Was your dad's name Timmy by any chance?
I presume its in Carrickfergus, that's one of my favourite songs. Never heard of them place.
It's a suburb of Cork. Rhymes with poker 😏
Grew up in togher road flats 70/80s then moved to the north side always loved Togher
The getto of cork city
Wow, what a treasure, I loved this video, Born and reared in Deanrock Estate, married a Togher girl and living in Canada. It was great to show this to my Kids and explain all the old haunts, so many memories of growing up in Togher, going to Togher school and then onto Tramore Road. A fantastic place to grow up, Many a bazzer I got from Sandra Dalton or Joe across in the fivestar, chips and a pie from Tom's place with a video from CTV or a few gallons of petrol in Sean Hanley's place. Thanks for posting.
Hey Paddy, where in deanrock estate did you live? It wasn't leamlarra close by any chance by the devil's rock? Your name rings a bell.
It was Ilen Court, the folks still live there so the connection is strong.

Was a charming looking place but unfortunately the communist style buildings that litter Ireland are a terrible eyesore.

My aunt,Mary Fogarty from Cobh started there as a young girl. She worked there until she retired.
Very interesting juxtaposition of old and new photos
